Spoiler Thread - SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS (SPOILERS!... Obviously.)

They’re getting ready to make this canon

 

Whoops. I forgot that Shadow does chaos snap instead of homing attack just that quickly.

But man that sucks. lol

The homing attack is not my favorite mechanic in the world. But with magnet dash, they finally found a way to make that actually work on a better level for me.

I didn’t think it would become a mainstay in this new way of doing boost Sonic they’re going with, but I was sure hoping it would.

 

Funniest thing they could have done is send Shadow to Forces Green Hill and have him earnestly comment that “Green Hill is looking a lot more like SAND Hill right about now.”

 

So my copy of the game arrived beforehand, and I can already play it. I have never played Sonic Generations. So which one should I play first? Sonic Generations or Shadow Generations?

 

We’ll shit, if you’ve never played Sonic Generations before, may as well start with that. If I were in your position I’d probably go back and forth between the two.

you’re in a pretty sweet position! Sonic Generations is one of the best Sonic games period if you’re just looking to enjoy some good levels.

 

Huh? Whichever one you want. Start one. If you’re having fun, keep playing. If you’re not having fun, switch to the other one.

Outside story stuff, there is no particular reason to play one before the other. If you care about the story at all, go with Shadow. Generations is basically a level pack.

Generations doesn’t have any kind of length on it unless you’re going 100%. Shadow doesn’t look to either. There’s no commitment.

 

I'd say Sonic first. Get the boring non important stuff done with asap and move on to excitement afterwards. Me however, I've already experienced Sonic Gens, and I don't care enough (if even at all) about it to redo it when I get my hands on the remaster. Especially because of that awful final boss.

 

These two sentences contradict each other. *wink*

If we go by the second sentence, I think we should FINISH with one of the greatest Sonic games ever made. Not start with it.

Final boss does suck though. But it is the very last thing, so you could technically just not play it. What I did on my most recent run through of Generations. lol

Only thing you’ll miss is a pointless time slow ability and a super Sonic that either

1) only gives invincibility or

2) just makes it to where you don’t play the game as you just fly past all the levels. For all of the 10 seconds you still have rings.

 

Okay, I ended up playing both games back and forth :P

Two questions about Sonic Generations:
1) What do the red star ring things do in Acts? Am I supposed to collect all 6 in every Act?
2) It's telling me to collect keys before I can progress to the Boss Acts but I fucking suck balls at the challenge mini games that unlock the aforementioned keys. Can I skip that bullshit?

And the red rings are just there for extra challenges within levels to do if you want to. Only thing they do is unlock music and other extra stuff.

If you do collect all 5 in a level, you do unlock an extra ability to equip in the skills stuff. None of them are mandatory though. Honestly, some of the abilities aren’t really valuable at all.

Yeah, you do need to do some missions unfortunately. However, you only need to do one level, Classic or modern, per zone to unlock boss keys. If you want, you can just find the missions that are doppelgänger races. Essentially, these are just “play the level again” but do so under a very lenient time limit.

 

The cancel is not, and while i personally usually just stomp to prevent overshooting, i have had to hold back a couple times! But ive only played through the first two levels and the first boss so i dont know how consistent it will be

 

Apparently Sonic x Shadow Generations will not be available for Steam Family Sharing.

I thought it would be better to create this topic to confirm this information.

I intended to buy the game on the Nintendo Switch but I preferred to buy it on the PC because then my friends would also be able to play the game and then I was frustrated by this news.

Can anyone confirm if it's just a bug?

 

Is Space Colony ARK not that? Its music is remixed from ShTH rather than SA2, not to mention how Radical Highway is already the designated level from that latter game.

 

The music is Final Rush from SA2. Act 2 also has Final Chase gimmicks. And every level is in chronological order. So it seems like SA2 representation to me.

 

Uh what? The music is remixed from Final Rush. Shadow the game also does this for one of its ARK levels (and incidentally reuses all of Final Rush's stage geometry), but it's clearly a different style that sounds distinct enough many people wouldn't notice, where Shadow Generations is clearly going for the SA2 track.

 

Oh yeah, I totally forgot that the ShTH song I was thinking of was a remix of Final Rush.

Never found SA2's action stage music all that memorable aside from City Escape and the Knuckles raps.

 

As usual with Archie discussion, people forever misunderstood the context, concept, just what was being talked about.

Sega aren't opposed to the concept of families- after all, Eggman got Gerald and Maria, Cream got Vanilla, etc. The issue is, adding a family member is a big conceptual change, and thus isn't a licensor's job to do. Something like that, it's Sega's job, because it's their characters.
So there wasn't any "fight" for Ian to win here or anything. These new family members are being shown (not even introduced, per se, as Sega already showed a family tree last year) in a game. The games are the main root of the franchise and what get to make changes like that. If it was an IDW story trying to do this, we'd be told no, because it's too big a change for a licensed product to get to do.
