Spoiler Thread - SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS (SPOILERS!... Obviously.)

Maybe a good idea to put "Spoiler thread" before the game's title here?

From the home page this looks like either the main Shadow Generations or Dark Beginnings thread due to the length of the game's name. And maybe some of you browse the forum differently but I just click on the newest thing I see from the home page.

 

That was probably a request from SEGA. SEGA approved it and put the new script in the game. They need to treat their assets with more respect.

 

I'm with Overlord on this. Whether the altered dialogue is to appease to the anti-Pontaff manchildren or to better compliment Shadow Generations (or both), it's fucking pathetic.

What are the chances that they're removing the (literally two seconds long) scene of Sonic pushing Amy away just to appease to the horde of persecution complex -fueled Amy fans on Twitter and Reddit who can't shut the hell up over it?

 

I never had strong feelings towards the original game's story, but needless alterations to it still piss me off.

That being said, I actually really liked Tails' original line about Chemical Plant's water giving him PTSD, and find its replacement severely inferior. If Flynn's supposed to be this writing genius who understands the characters, then how come the only things he ever writes are robotic and unnatural remarks regarding "world building" and "lore"?

 

I'm not huge on the new dialogue. The writing isn't any better or worse, so it strikes me as pretty unnecessary (the original Generations' dialogue was like, inoffensive at worst), and it sounds like the VAs are struggling to keep up with the speed of the cutscenes since the devs didn't update the animations at all. I do sorta get the desire for more references to past stuff since it's an anniversary game but of all the things they could've focused on "improving" in the remaster, that they chose this is kind of baffling.

 

And the original dialogue was already full of references! Hell, Sonic brings up the events of Secret Rings in one cutscene despise the game never acknowledging it otherwise!

I really don't get it. I really don't.

 

So initially I was skeptical on the hate for rewritten dialogue here, figuring it's just the usual "Change is bad" rhetoric I see around here. But nope, it's entirely valid that dialogue does absolutely nothing for the story and just makes things feel awkward. I can see an "original cutscenes" mod coming out day 1.

 

I'm reserving judgement until it's out in full, leaked or otherwise. I can't say many people would vigorously defend Generations as top-tier dialogue. However, to rewrite it, and apparently use the new voice cast, is a bizarre decision. Fairly certain that's Colleen rather than Kate in the Chemical Plant scene. The original still exists, is available for purchase in some form, and your existing copies aren't going anywhere. Take a deep breath, the cartoon furries are going to be fine.

 

This would have a point if they reanimated the scenes...that's something to work with.

Like, the most they've done is give Sonic mouth movements so he can talk back to Knuckles...instead of staring blankly. There's just not enough time for anything, making it useless.

 

I don't really care about Generations "story" since it barely fucking exist, but whew these changes are dog shit.

I'm fully expecting screenshots of old games to be shown during cutscenes to make sure we remember where the levels and references are from.

Quite a fitting comparison, actually, as Sonic and Star Wars both turned into cowardly pandering for people with awful taste after immature fan meltdowns in 2017.

 

I'm with Jason on this, I'm gonna wait.

What I can say from this is some of the animation in this looks way better than the original cutscenes.


Anyway, apparenty Sonic will be really an actual boss in Shadow Gens.

 

I'll wait for more confirmed changes until making judgement. It hardly matters.

Forces already degradated the game's plot with absurd retcons anyway. And retconed yet again in Tails Tube and Fontiers to salvage it. The changes might be blessings in disguise, who knows?

I'm more worried on more important factors like, is the port good or a buggy mess? Is it polished gameplay-wise?
Or is Sega record so bad that people don't even think about it?
