    Welp, this.
snk (and Digibase at large, I'm guessing) doesn't have the correct MIME type set up for 7z on their server. You'll need to right-click and select "Save as." I'll probably get mirrors up on the wiki in the next hour or so to help alleviate this problem.

Thanks Scarred Sun, I will look forward to those mirrors since I don't think the download will work. (It's downloading as a text file.)

EDIT: I figured it out, and ended up with a ejectable folder with many .bin files, and a separate iso file. I'm unfamiliar with burning, I have a mac, and I only have the default burner in the disc utility. What exactly do I do with the files?

I believe the first Sonic CD Hack released was a fix for the PC version running on Windows XP.

This is interesting...the first step forward in Sonic CD hacking. I'll have to give this a go sometime on my Wondermega or Mega CD.

    This is very nice.
It comes as a surprise to me that nobody had ever attempted this in a real way, because it's not very difficult if one knows how the Sonic engine works. And Sonic CD engine works in a very similiar way to Sonic 1.
Really, the biggest chore when hacking Sonic CD is the astounding repetition found in the MMDs which is a big waste of space.

That said, I don't agree with people saying that these hacks make the game more enjoyable.
I mean, Sonic CD is Sonic CD, as Sonic 3D is Sonic 3D. Without its spindash, or without the flickies, the games just aren't the same.
Nice hack? Yes. But I don't think I would play it instead of regular Sonic CD.

    Man, This is simply awesome!

It was 10 years since I last played Sonic CD. I'm very disapointed I still remember the levels layouts though... I thought they were erased from my mind forever. Guess I was wrong. :P

The game is a lot more enjoyable now! I love it.

Also, I love how the homming attack can break the game! Tidal Tempest's boss is a walk in the park. Metal Sonic was no match for Sonic this time. Man, I was with the power sneakers and constantly timing my jumps with the slopes, and, of course, using the homming attack. Turn out I've arrived in the meeting point so earlier, that I thought Metal Sonic would never come. He came, but took long enough. The final boss was easy as pie too, and can be easily beat in less that 7 seconds.

Sir, you gave a new life to Sonic CD.

    Welp, this.
A friendly reminder—this topic is to talk about this hack, not to complain about how this ruins your experience of Sonic CD. As the hackers said themselves, they did it for the bounty and not because they thought it was a great idea.

This is still the first time there's been an in-game hack of the game, aside from Nemesis' beta hoax, and that's commendable in its own right. If you could have done it, then...go do something else SCD-related.

    It does.
Precisely. That's why it's called a hack in the first place. It's not the intention of the hack to replace the original.
I would. And I did. And I prefer it over the original. The same way as I played and enjoyed Sonic 3D no flickies hack, that I also prefer over the original as well. It's just a matter of opinion, really. That's not a reason to rank down the efforts put into this hack.

    being an asshole =P
I disagree, the most annoying thing of the implementation of the spindash in Sonic CD is the fact that you have to wait for the screen to fully scroll. You know, if Sonic would get at least a bit of momentum without having to wait for the screen to scroll, it'd be a different matter. Waiting for bigger speeds is a different thing and would be a nice trade-off. Oh, wait... =P

But seriously, making Sonic being able to get the speed boost without having that needless wait would be a good idea, even if the speed wouldn't be as much as when having it fully charged. It wouldn't be the first time I fail when attempting a spindash, and it only discourages me from using the move when Sonic CD is about speed (as you need it to do time travel) =/

I know this is not arguing about Sonic CD topic, but I think these have to go somewhere, haven't they?

Time travel? In most parts where you time travel there are loops, etc. which are easy to run on.
The spindash isn't important at all in there.

Or maybe it's just me, but I do prefer vanilla versions to play as the original one, otherwise it feels a bit "faked" for me. This is Sonic CD with spindash, not regular Sonic CD

A S3K hack was recently announced...and now a new Sonic CD hack. This is definitely an interesting week for Sonic hacking!

Good luck with your spindash conversion and game additions. It'll really make the game even more interesting than it is right now. :v:

And who said otherwise? Hence the "++" after "CD".

The thread tittle says it all. SonicCD++, Sonic CD + S2 spindash + homing attack.

Seriously, I didn't need to realize it myself. I simply read the tittle.

  12. sometimes change can be refreshing

  13. You know, what you should do next is keep it so you stay in whatever time zone you were in last. (Minus the Good Future, which automatically would switch back to Bad Future)

  14. I definitely like this hack. Makes it faster 10 fold.

    However I have one complaint...

Why can't I hear music unless I am in the past?

I know it is not muted as I hear the sound effects.

It's an ISO. So you need the MP3s to match the name of the ISO. Same deal as the regular Sonic CD ISOs.

Mirrored and ready to go. Also, after speaking with Kradorex, the 7z issue with Digibase should be resolved.

I love this hack. It's probably one of the most amazing things the Sonic hacking community has had so far. Consider me impressed beyond comprehension. You guys have made something epic. :eng101:

However, I ran into two bugs:

    1) I ran so fast in CCZ2 that the signpost became garbled data. Probably because the game didn't have enough to time to load all that.

    and

    2) When I started to use many Homing Attack's in the Metal Sonic race (which made the level no challenge :v: ), Metal Sonic started making some bizzare sounds.. it's like it played the "dashing" sound, but sent it on a constant ear-raping loop.

Those things aside, this has now made me like this game twice as much, even when it already was my favorite game.

  18. K Thanks, I fixed it by copying and renaming original Sonic CD MP3s.

But I did notice something rather odd. Some backgrounds are literally upside down.

I have gone high in some zones and seen the ocean and low in others and seen the sky.

    Has anyone else noticed this?

I never really got past SSZ in SCD. I haven't tried this yet either. But I loathe the SCD spindash. Give me S2 Spindash or give me illegal instruction!
