    soncboom.exe is not a valid win32 application.

    What operating system are you on? It says Windows 7 or better

    I get the same thing, but I figure that's because I'm stranded on Windows XP (it's a long story)

    I've just posted the news in one of Spain's main social news sites, here: https://www.meneame.net/story/version-jugable-cancelado-sonic-x-treme-ya-disponible-ingles

    So, if it gets published, you may be getting some traffic from there. Just go there and press the "Menéalo" button before it gets closed.

    EDIT: Time is running out.

    Are you certain it's 60FPS? Because I have a GeForce GTX 970, and it only ran at 30FPS. A quite-stable 30FPS, but 30FPS nonetheless.

    Did the original force full screen? Because I don't like forcing full screen. And it probably adds to performance issues (although I've been fine on my end).

    I am artificially limiting the frame rate between 25 and 30 FPS, the code depends on this, it has no way to adapt to dynamic or higher frame rates.

    Jolly

    The current build is forced to run fullscreen, we will release other versions that run windowed, right now I had no time to support switching between modes and it just looked so much better full screen...

    The full screen mode should not have any performance implications.

    Hey guys, Sorry I made a mistake in the readme file that came with the release for changing levels. step 3 was skipped.
    Also Borman re-uploaded the files with the readme fix included.

    To Run the unedited level:
    1: Please back up Level_01.def and Level_01.Pcx, then delete or move the originals.
    (In case you'd like to roll back to the more playable edited level versions)
    \RSRC\PCX for the .DEF files
    \RSRC\DEF for the .pcx map files
    2: Change TEST.def and TEST.Pcx names respectively to Level_01.def and Level_01.pcx.
    3:Find below code in your newly name swapped .def file and change test to Level_01
    NEW_QUBIX "QBX0001"
    {
    Value 001,"test" //Layout Texture
    Value 002,"SkyTxtr" //Background Texture
    Value 005,Color(248,176,000) //Specular Color Range:0 -> 255
    Value 006,Color(008,088,168) //Fog Color Range:0 -> 255
    }
    4: Boot game as normal and enjoy!

    lol

    Okay now some-thing random....
    The first time I said lol while playing PSO on the Japanese ship (server) on Dreamcast back in the day, someone thought lol was a person with their hands up in the air cheering.
    I guess we should apply that train of thought here right?

    It's pretty mind-blowing just to see this. Whatever the final product would've looked like, this is the game that would've caused me to ask for a Saturn instead of an N64 in Christmas 1996, and it's amazing to finally experience what that might have been like. Awesome, awesome work.

  17. So Matt did a video on it:

    I'm really digging classic Sonic in 3D.

    But, man, Sonic X-Treme! I remember reading about this in a gaming magazine at a bit over ten years old, thinking that I'd be playing this in just a few months. I can't really describe what it means to actually have this game, to be able to play it, but then, you guys already understand.

    Well, this is awesome. Well, really, awesome is an understatement. This is the holy grail of Sonic prototypes. (At least, unless Sonic 1 or 3 decides to show up, anyways.) Is this based on that level editor or is this a completely new thing? Anyways, can't wait for those new levels to come!

    Also, if anybody was interested I was messing with those .DEF files and I've made some physics tweaks that make it feel a bit more like a Sonic game. Here's the pastebin if anybody wants to try it: http://pastebin.com/VsUG8d5W

    This did not work in Wine, but I didn't expect it to work. (few-year-old mac) Even if it did, it would suffer from a low frame rate. Ah well, it's good to see this prototype released.
