If it's characters who weren't in vanilla Generations you interact with in the new hub world, Mighty, Ray, Bark, Bean, Fang, and Trip are all right there.

Anyway this is sounding a lot like Frontiers if Cyber Space was the main content and the open zones were the side content, aka Frontiers if I had my way

I'm very happy they did something much more interesting with the White Space for this. The original Gens hub reeked of time and budget constraints.

  4. That's really weird. Can anyone confirm whether you can initiate a homing attack from the ground then?

Clearest gameplay yet, in both visuals and audio. We've got a new Final Rush remix, and it sounds like there's no boost filter at all. Also, he turns in midair at one point and it definitely is tighter than in Frontiers.

would be funny as hell to have Shadow just continually meet old characters and be like "who the fuck are you"

Weird it's Final Rush and not Final Chase.

Eh, Highway in the Sky is the better track anyway. I actually totally missed that The Ark theme from Shadow's own game is itself a remix, since it sounds so different.

  9. Ian Flynn has said that he personally thinks the Time Eater is the remnants of Mephiles. Assuming he’s writing the Shadow portions (I don’t think any writer has been confirmed yet?), it will be interesting to see if he has the sway to make it canon.

Certainly I’m hoping for a Mephiles return, especially given his prominence as an enemy of Shadow in particular. Of course, it may be difficult to make a compelling narrative with an antagonist no one remembers, unless they hand wave it by saying the breakdown of space time has allowed memories of the 06 timeline to return.

I would doubt Mephiles' involvement myself but like why is the hub Soleanna-themed?

Reminds you it's Act 1; they might remix The Supernatural for Act 2.

Either way, this remix goes very hard. Probably was Jun himself who made it.

I've been thinking about this and I'm honestly not sure if it's supposed to be. The gold and ornate look already existed in regular Generations's white space, it's just that we're so familiar with the level gates that it doesn't register to us as having that identity. Since Soleanna Castle Town is also ornate and the hub is sunken in water, it looks similar, but it might be a total coincidence.

Either way, if Mephiles is in this thing, it's not going to be as part of Time Eater. They'd have to change something about the base game's cutscenes...which I guess they are doing, but clearly they're not looking to rock the boat in that regard.

Blimey. The level design really is a lot more involved than I thought it was based on the B-roll footage. The level "chunks" are all pretty flat and uninteresting on their own, and everything, but they're all woven together in such a way that the layout seems pretty good. I still really don't like that way that the characters move in the boost gameplay though. It's so rigid and binary.

  14. It’s open zone white world likely has different areas based off the featured games, this screenshot seems to take place in it and is using floor assets from the Ark so we can assume it has different themed areas

Kingdom Valley and Rail Canyon would be difficult to translate into this without having death pits everywhere so I can see them using different places from their games for their areas in white world.

Why is it a remix of Final Rush and not Final Chase? That's a strange choice.

It occurs to me that The Ark may be an unlockable music track you can use with stages.

I'd say this looks like the least rigid any of the boost games have been to be honest, unless you're talking about acceleration being a binary state, which is fair. It still feels kind of unbelievable to me that they finally gave us tight turning in Frontiers (on the ground at least), and it looks like they've nailed it again here, without asking the player to set sliders this time. The movement in the Biolizard boss fight in particular really does just look so free and smooth to me.

Well this has been persistently called Space Colony ARK Act 1, so maybe they're saving a remix of The Supernatural for Act 2.

Because one of the stages is Kingdom Valley (which is in Soleanna) and that's basically how White World works? Different sections of White World are taken from the levels in the era.
I think you hit the nail on the head. There will be multiple songs available for each level much like the base Generations, and several of them will likely be new remixes. So there will be a Final Chase and a The ARK track for the Space Colony ARK stage (as well as several others).

I think it's still an indication that Mephiles will make an appearance. And Sonic Gens' White World hardly works at all like Shadow Gens' appears to. Sonic's is basically just a level select screen while this looks more like a proper SA1 playground home base to comfortably mess with the controls and physics...hopefully.

You completely forgot about all the (albeit short) platforming sections that were in Gens' white world to get to the Mission gates...

I don't think anyone wants to remember that.
