Those are two of the last people I’d go to for Sonic takes. I cannot think of two YouTube personalities who out and out hate Sonic more.

Both Yahtzee and Stephanie sterling's takes, especially on Sonic make my eyes roll, however knowing their background and where they are coming from, I know they're sincere , it's not a bad perspective.
I heavily disagree, but have respect for their thoughts on these things.

I can think of at least one: Arin "Egoraptor" Hanson.

For me, when it comes to youtube personalities, I'll be waiting for Clement's thoughts on the game the most.

The trick with Arin is that he not-so-secretly at this point loves Sonic. I think it teeters very frequently between an ironic fandom and earnestly loving it. At the very least he loves the characters, setting, stories etc. and it's only the games that ever grate on his nerves, but even then he'll say nice things about the better-regarded ones like Mania, Generations and even Frontiers.

Yeah, I don't trust the guy on anything after watching his let's plays. Outright embarrassing performances.

He at least offered better critique of Frontiers than Yatzee did - "I can't take saucer sized eyeball cartoons seriously" vs "there's narrative dissonance when Sonic dying in all these cutscenes isn't reflected in the gameplay"

The trivia feels like sunk cost after how much came out on him, (or really stuff that already happened but casual viewers weren't aware of) but from his playthroughs I always had a hunch that he was a closeted Sonic fan that just liked to shit on the series. When his Frontiers and SA2 playthroughs came out he basically confirmed that, admitting he likes what they keep going for in Frontiers with sincerity/belting out City Escape like it was his national anthem. And there was one moment where he attempted to precisely position himself in Sonic 2's oil ocean for a route in the floor that only existed in Mania, and I immediately said "I know what you are" lmao

Yatzee and Sterling were people I only took seriously when I was in middle school honestly. They both seem far too concerned with being "above" whatever they're reviewing for me to take their opinions as anything other with looking for negativity wherever they could find it. Especially Yahtzee, I remember him being nice to maybe like 12 games total in all the years I watched him.

I'll probably watch SomeCallMeJohnny's review on it, even if I don't trust him that much in regards to story/character stuff. He has a fine grasp on what makes good gameplay though.

TehSnakerer is basically the only reviewer I actually trust to be able to both A) approach a game on it's level instead of acting like he's somehow better than it, and B) Understand/Analyze a game from both a mechanical and narrative level.

I'll be honest, I don't really read reviews on anything, really. I know my tastes and what I like. I only really saw IGN's 9 and had to point it out because I've been watching them review Sonic since the DC days. It's been a long, slow climb back up since I saw a 3D sonic game score like that on the website. More of an outward perception thing than me actually paying attention to the review itself.

I have a feeling this game is going to blow up. It's got finally a decent amount of content for this price, it's reviewing well, and the Shadow synergy is coming together at just the right moment. This thing is gonna be a smash hit this holiday season.

I don't listen to reviews because everyone's an idiot and I'm the only person with objectively correct opinions in the world. And Black Knight's a 10/10. :colbert:

  11. I'd honestly prefer having a demo than relying on a review.

I hate Yahtzee lmao dude feels like the epitome of a guy who's permanently stuck in 2008.

just going from word of mouth, I'm hearing so many good things about the game even from people who typically hate new Sonic stuff and that's enough to win me over tbh

? Not sure what this is alluding to?

Part of the problem with Arin's gameplay on Game Grumps is he's putting on a show. The Grumps have both talked at length about this, but this is a big reason why they're often accused of not paying attention, or missing obvious stuff during their playthroughs, because they're trying to bring the funny at the same time. With that in mind I still don't think of Arin as some like, epic gamer extraordinaire, but it's worth giving them a little grace on.

All this to say, if we don't see a Shadow Generations playthrough on Game Grumps soon, I'mma be real mad. I also kind of thought they would have played Superstars, but I guess I don't really know how much they'd get out of it since it's such a vanilla experience.

I just think it's a pretty unconventional thing that Nintendo doesn't have any support for, making one version available sooner than another.

Zelda fans when yet another universally loved game comes out:

“Another great adventure in the books! Hiiiiiiiiyah!”

Sonic fans when the first critically acclaimed game releases in over a decade:

    “WHY ROUGE BOOB CENSORED??????”
