Sonic X Shadow Generations thread, movie level out on the 12th

Yeah I really hope there’s a day one patch for that, it’s an extremely unfortunate blemish on what seems to be a very good package for the Switch.

 

Waited until the last minute but I got my digital pre order settled. Apparently playstation pre-loading is in a few hours, so decent timing.

 

Just as a forewarning for folks here, SxSG clips have started making the rounds online, mostly from YouTube. As of now, I'd suggest starting to steer clear of some of the more vocal social media hubs if you don't wanna get spoiled!

In the meantime, uh... Watch, like, Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance or Markipliers' Edge of Sleep (available on Prime now!) or something since they're hot off the press.

 

I don't understand these instructions. I'm watching all of Bones instead.

 

Does anyone know if the 'Day One' edition also includes the Modern Skin in addition to Gerald's Journal?

Edit: Eh it doesn't look like it. Still unsure about preordering this but that there Adventure skin sure is tempting me.

 

I bet they could optimize Sonic Generations to run at 60fps (probably at 900p like Mario Odyssey), but didn't really try since they wouldn't be able to do it for the Shadow side due to the real time lighting.

We'll be able to tell if my assumption is correct in a matter of days; until someone unlocks the framerate and plays it on a jailbroken Switch.

 

It's a 7 year old tablet that was already pretty wack spec wise 7 years ago. Putting a lot of faith in that hunk of junk.

With IGN's 9 included, (hurry up MC) that makes 7 9/10s vs 3 6/10s, that's crazy

 

A 79 for a Sonic game for me is like a 95 for any other game so I see this as an absolute win

 

I don’t really care about scores. Just kind of arbitrary numbers that don’t actually tell you much about the game, so I care more about the reviews themselves.

Still, it is nice to see the game is liked at least and that public perception will likely be positive.

 

GameSpot and Eurogamer are now going to replace IGN as public enemy #1 for Sonic fans

There’s no nice way to say how I view that stuff. It’s just stupid to me for so many reasons.

 

Eurogamer giving the whole package a 6 because Shadow Generations is too good to be bundled with a remaster of a game that's generally well-regarded feels... oddly petty? Imagine the same logic being applied to Bowser's Fury.

Anyway, just gotta wait for the next Nintendo console and the inevitable SxSG port for GameSpot to turn that frown upside down.

 

As I said. Numbers do not mean anything for a number of reasons.

Also, after watching this IGN review just now, I think I am good on “professional” reviews for now. I think I will wait on better sources.

As I suspected, most of that video is just descriptions of the game that are quite surface level and do not go into any sort of depth as to why certain things work or don’t. And focused quite a bit on aesthetics and the ideas of what the levels ade rather than stuff that matters like execution. It was very unengaging to watch.

I need the game to release so someone like Pariah695 can take a look at it. Won’t change me getting the game. I still will. But until I get some more reassurance from a CREDIBLE reviewer, I am waiting for a price drop.

 

I almost choked on my drink looking at that damn IGN score.


The MC score is at 80 rn, the first 3D Sonic game to do so since, fittingly enough, Sonic Adventure 2.

I mean, I doubt I'd tank a review score over it, but I'd call it a valid criticism. If you aren't interested in another copy of the old thing, it sucks to not have the option to just buy the new thing for less money. I nearly didn't bother with Bowser's Fury because I had no interest in a 3D World port after having 100%'d the Wii U version, which would've been a shame because Bowser's Fury was pretty dang cool. (Fortunately the possibility of online co-op with some friends swayed me.)
