Re-releasing games on today's platforms is not historical preservation. It just means we'll be able to more easily access them today. Then in a decade we're back to the status quo.

Yes, this also counts for PC ports. Remember the PC port of Sonic CD? Once Windows XP came out it was forgotten.

  2. A Sonic Advanced and DS collections wound be ace . I think Sonic Rush is like the best 2D sonic around.

This is a trouble with SEGA mind, we should have had a Model 2 collection and Model 3 along with collections for Virtual Cop, Panzer Dragoon.

I would like Sonic Adventure to be remade, but I would love a remake of Sonic Heroes or Sonic Unleashed too.

It's just sad in this day and age that a remake takes so much time money and staff and Sonic Team have never been the biggest team inside SEGA.

A collection of the post-3K 2d sonic games would go so unbelievably hard. I'd really like a rerelease of the rush games too but the second screen would pose challenges, you basically would have to rebuild it.

For the 3D games, I'm not sure if any of them besides adventure (and maybe to a lesser extant heroes?) would be able to sell. The adventure games are classics and can get by on name recognition alone, but the wii era sonic games were not very well liked. For Unleashed and the story book games, if they were to get rereleased at all, the only real chance they have is being stapled onto the adventure games in a bundle to coast off their success or to be remade with extra content.

This is sad and true, keep saying it. But ease of access isn't nothing, and in a decade people can just emulate them same as they would if they werent rereleased at all.

The sonic community has been making fan teams for actual decades, I'm surprised sega never revisited the heroe's team formula again. Hooligans need to be in, Fang could be flight with his hoverbike but pulling it out mid gameplay might look awkward.

Mighty and Ray would be cool if they got modern reimaginings like the Chaotix. IDK why, but i've always imagined Ray and being a former circus performer. Metal Sonic plays to central a role in heroes' story for metal being on a team to make sense, you could pair them with maybe Classic Sonic if you wanted to lean into the mania connection.

Personally, i really want the beta Sonic Band to introduced into game canon; Sharps the Parakeet, Max the Monkey, and Mach the Rabbit (Mach being merged with the bete rabbit design from superstars).

I wonder if anyone will be able to mod-in Sonic with his homing attack and nom-Shadow moves (as well as removed Shadow moves). Shadow’s shaping up to be better than Frontiers for modding based on the level style — though I am also curious to what extent one could put in your own cutscenes/cinematic sections. I guess it depends on how all of that is exposed.

From what you read? You haven't even bothered to look at some footage? It isn't a port, it isn't a remaster, it's a full blown remake. One that's faithful to a fault. You may not think it's a GOOD remake, but your subjective take doesn't mean it isn't one.

the concept of "fandiscs" was a thing in the past, epilogues/mini sequels at reduced price
and in fact, in Japan they offered FES for a discounted price for thus who had the original game

Except it wasn't part of the "original" package, it was extra content in one of it's many rereleases , same as FEMC, or hard modes in Sonic Jam, or any extra in the many collections of Sonic games, no one in the future would consider the missions or animated scenes of Sonic Origins as "part of the original package for classic sonic games"

It won't come, they addressed it, said it was too much effort and would take longer development time, it was a controversary for the fandom actually

They got the money regardless for the inclusion of the game itself in the Game Pass, DLC or not

I really don't get how you can in the same breath defend reusing assets as "well they use them creatively" and at the same time make the ridiculous claim that the remake is "enhanced port"

Like it's not even close, nothing is reused here, new models new graphics new engine new animations, and even new gameplay mechanics ,claiming it's just enhanced port is just funny and factually incorrect.

That's nice, but that doesn't change anything about the present. We're not getting a complete package.
The original package in this case is Persona 3 FES. That re-release effectively replaced the previous release. You're just arguing semantics at this point.

You can't compare this content to some missions or a hard mode. The Answer exists to answer some questions that the main game didn't. It can be argued to be part of the intended experience.

If Sonic Generations was re-released in the future without the Shadow part of the game, only to be offered as DLC, people would be pissed at withholding content that originally was part of the package for an extra buck, and rightly so.
Excuse me, but what? You consider one of the two main ways to play through the game, one that Persona 3 Portable was marketed with, to be nothing more than an extra? That's nonsense.
DLC of a game doesn't magically appear in a subscription tier. They get extra money for it.

You get a complete package, with extra content.

Not even true for 2 main reasons, first reason is obviously that FES wasn't the original release, or an "incomplete" game, it was the complete experience, second reason is that the only port for the old Persona 3 to modern consoles ? it's actually P3P, which doesn't include The Answer btw, so the re-release that effectively replaced the previous releases is actually P3P not FES.

If they actually made a remake of Generations for whatever reason, not a rerelease, people wouldn't mind it that much actually, not that there is any reason to remake Gen specifically

Adventure remake seems more likely, and i wouldn't expect any "DX Director's Cut" content to make it to the remake.

It is indeed extra, especially given how you have to choose between them at the start, for a 60+ hours game, for the vast majority of the players they only play through this game once, treating the other option as nothing but gender swap -which is wrong- , but it's true that like the majority of the campaign is similar, it doesn't add to the main story and effectively just an alternate way to play the game, an extra.

Yes, there will probably be compatibility issues with old ports in the next 20 years (which is more believable to me than 10 years), but modern ports of games are in a format that makes them much easier to re-release down the line, since consoles use less proprietary hardware these days and developers use less proprietary software. For example, in 20 years, it probably won't take any effort or cost on Capcom's part to bring something like Mega Man Legacy Collection to modern systems, if it needs to be updated at all. This wouldn't have been true 10 years ago, so it's not like there haven't been any improvements.

Just need Generations to work on the Deck bros. Tired of troubleshooting it every time I think about booting it up.

Gonna be mad if I have to deal with another launcher.

It took 5 years for Sonic CD to develop a compatibility issue. I don't know when Sonic Generations got one, but right now it's much closer to being one decade old than two decades old.
    That doesn't change anything.

I do think it's an uphill battle for Sonic Team to continue remaking or remastering older titles.
    - They're not that big of a studio, and always have other projects besides Sonic in the cycle.
    - Production costs keep getting more expensive.
    - Modern games have a much higher benchmark of graphics quality and accessibility that ideally need to be met (especially with Sonic games as they're not the most user friendly in a lot of cases).
    - The fact that Sonic Team constantly changes devs meaning that new devs would need to spend more time relearning how those games were created. It's very different from most genres in that Sonic's style of gameplay is fairly unique through and through compared to rpgs and fps games (whether it's Adventure style or boost style).

Why does sonic team keep shifting members? Isn't the whole point of having a team dedicated to a single franchise that you can have them constantly hone their skills? So that they can make a similar product after learning from past mistakes?

I seem to recall there being some discussion over Sonic Team being where Sega sends the new hires for training before they go to other studios within Sega or jump ship to other companies. Could be remembering wrong though.

"Sonic Team" being one specific team was always a misnomer, and even before "Sonic Team" was a proper group, there was still divides like the American team on Sonic 2 and the Japanese team on Sonic CD (I think I got that backwards).

Sonic Team switches members because Sega in general likes to swap members and make teams to make new games.

I presume the same thing happens for RGG, just less problematic (or at least less obvious). Dunno about Atlus.

If this is true, which honestly I'd believe it considering it's sega we're talking about, it would be incredibly stupid.
Why is it that there is only like 3 people on the planet that knows how to make sonic games, and one of them learned how to make sonic levels in a cave with a pile of scraps and the other committed financial crimes.

I don’t think that’s true. SEGA frequently has listings for entry level jobs for various different teams.

Nowadays Sonic Team is just what they call Sega CS2 when they’re making a Sonic game, right? The former Sonic Team members were mixed together with the Valkyrie Chronicles team annd others and they’ve expanded since then as well. Since CS2 works on multiple projects at a time, it wouldn’t be odd if, for example, someone who worked on Frontiers to swap out with somebody who worked on one of their Persona ports for the next big Sonic game. While it would seem like Sonic Team is just cycling through new devs they’re really all part of the same team to begin with.
At least, that’s my understanding of things.

  19. It's not that much of an uphill battle, it's just more what game they would look to remake because Sonic Team would have support from SEGA China and maybe even Sapporo studio. Unless you're doing a Capcom most of the stage design work is already done, but it would be only one remake at a time I also don't get your point of ST changing developers/staff. That is true in the industry even for the likes of Capcom.

The issue is more what game. I mean all of us here will disagree and have our opinion on what game to remake and what is the best Sonic game, never mind with-in SEGA and the Sonic Team themself's and then you'll have a discous on if it's to be a 1 to 1 remake, or do a Capcom style remake and really change the game.

And then no doubt you'll have some who say Sonic team should remake Burning Rangers or Billy H instead :)
