Yeah no they fucked something up with the planar reflections, that being said the planar reflections in Generations were always kinda glitchy.

Question kind of related to all this. I've been seeing some people lately say that Generations 2011's PC port is bad. But other than some trouble starting it up, it seemed fine. Or am I missing something?

It was a bit barebones, but other than the finnicky launcher and quickstep bug with DirectInput, I don't recall any major issues. (The only other proper bug I even remember is not sliding down wall jump panels if you wait too long, which I don't think presented any actual issues on a normal playthrough.)

Ehhhh, at launch I had consistent framedrops in CPZ act 2's water tube and crashes in that one modern Rouge mission where she flirts with robots, but the former isn't an issue with any modern hardware and the latter went away on its own for some reason. And maybe the lightspeed dash works a bit dodgy in that CPZ shortcut, but I genuinely don't know if that's a PC only thing or if it's just borked across all platforms.

I know I'm a broken record but on my end, I managed to start the game exactly twice before the launcher just refused to start it after. It also had issues picking up my PS4 controller too.

  7. Honestly? Last time I played the port I didn't encounter any major issues... other than the DirectX missing but that was easy to solve.

The wall jump bug mostly affected one part of Seaside Hill Act 2 but it also made speedrunning the Action Master challenge in Planet Wisp a pain (unless you were using M-Speed)

As for the Rogue SSH mission crash, I think that mission was caused by CPU overload, one of the fixes was to run the game in high priority while doing the mission.

2011 still runs perfectly fine for me but 2024 is a jaggy jittery mess on my end like something with the frame timing or pacing is just fucked up and no amount of patches have fixed it.

I'm on the same boat as Antheraea. The 2011 port is a Russian Roulette on whether it wants to work or not. And if it does, whether it detects my controller(s) or not. Mods fix it at least, but its a terrible experience on my Steam Deck and I'm too lazy to mod that up. I'm glad the 2024 version works fine enough for Deck usage.

    Big new update came out-

It just moves 2 dash panels in ARK Act 2 by half a meter to prevent you from getting flinged out of bounds... and that's 400mb. :V

It's feel really weird that you can get flung out of bounds in a 2D stage, even though it's very much possible. Well, IIRC Classic Sonic can go 3D in original Generations via a mod or a glitch, whichever it was, I don't remember.

Also 400mb seems ridiculous for just that, but hey, maybe that's normal for modern games.

Shadow Generations also works great on Deck, even with the TDP watts at 12 (at max graphics settings except for a 75% render scale)

Also normal Gens works wonderfully at max graphical settings, which tells me that they didn't really up the graphics quality/intensity much (as if my eyeballs couldn't tell that).

I assume the 400mb size is caused by Denuvo? Unless it’s the same on consoles but I doubt that. Denuvo has a habit of making executables really large.

400 mb wouldn't surprise me if they patched it by replacing the entire level as opposed to moving the two objects individually. Like if they have level-by-level versioning and don't have the capability to export granular changes like that.
