Yeah, so many releases that can be considered GOTY nominees for many people. Kind of ridiculous.

I think it's clear Sony paid SEGA a lot of money for the timed-exclusive early access and inclusion of the extended version of Dark Begginings on PS4 and PS5.

Also, Sony is definitely helping advertise the game since all SXS Generations ads I'm getting on youtube are for the PS4/5 release, no mention of Xbox or Switch.

Just about the only real wish i have is that theyll release the 3ds generations levels as dlc or something. A complete package of all the generations project. 3ds gens is still gun if you liked sonic rush.

We won't have a sonic game without shadow in it for some time after this

But the early access is on Xbox, Steam and Epic. It's not exclusive to Sony. Everyone is getting it, bar Nintendo.

The review score is about right. Sonic Generations is a 9/10 game, and we knock off a point for the needless alterations to the cutscenes (I care far less about Rouge's tits as I do the dialogue).

Oh? There's some other game attached to it? Huh, OK. Whatever. =P

If Sonic Team learns the wrong lesson AGAIN, that will honestly be hilarious.

People like Colors? Obviously they want the wisp in every Sonic game.

People like Generations? Obviously that means they want Classic Sonic and reused level themes in every Sonic game.

People didn’t like the lost world formula and going slow? Obviously what they want is the boost formula where you can “dash like a maniac.” Boom. Forces.

People like Shadow Gens. OBVIOUSLY THAT MEANS THEY WANT SHADOW TO BE THE FOCUS IN EVERY SINGLE SONIC GAME EVER.

No. It’s not the aesthetical ideas you got you got going on that people like. It’s how you executed them.

People like Gens not just because of nostalgia or whatever. Not why I like it at least. I could not care less about that. I like Gens because it is a GOOD GAME.

Oh yea, I'm bracing myself for it.

We're in the Adventure 2/OG Generations part of the cycle where things are looking promising before it all comes crashing down.

OK, I think we've had enough fun with the personal attacks now in a thread not about me - that I didn't even start. If it continues I'll start handing out suspensions.

I'm frankly stunned at how mild the spoilers have been on the web. Just need to dodge bullets for one more sleep...
Meanwhile, I wonder if SEGA will bring over the skins from Frontiers and Superstars at any point. I'd love to see the rabbit model in a game that's actually good.

If I'm getting this excited over a "side story" (and those are massive quotes) part of a remaster for a game I find heavily unimpressive, they must be doing something right. Especially considering how much they royally messed up TFH before the patch. Thank Solaris I won't have a repeat of Kingdom Hearts 3. Then again, unlike KH3 I never exactly found Sonic Gens that good in the first place.

It's on Epic Store too? I forgot it's has games, since I only use it for UE5 assets. Maybe it's a better dea-... nvm it's actually 20% more expensive there than on Steam :V
A little surprised, since I though they want to crush Gabe's monopoly, and best way to do that would be with better prices

  16. Come on now, Wojaks aren't personal attacks. But I've had my fun.

it's crazy that as many spoiler as I've seen, i still haven't seen the final boss.

They want better prices for publishers, not consumers.
And I don't care about publishers.

Stuff like this is always so ironic because steam is quite literally not a monopoly, steam is two separate products both under the banner of the name "steam." Firstly, steam is a runtime environment, which is what people mean when they say "steam games." Games interact with the runtime environment, the build of games between steam and the EGS are different because the steam runtime environment has hooks into the actual game. Steam, the runtime environment, is a "monopoly" like DirectX or UE4 is a "monopoly."

But steam, as in the actual storefront, is not at all a monopoly. You can buy steam games everywhere, and usually way, way cheaper than on Steam itself. I got Sonic x Shadow generations, the deluxe version, for $48 a couple of weeks ago on GameBillet. I cannot say enough that people should have Augmented Steam installed on every browser they use. It adds alternate store information directly into Valve's online steam store. It'll show the history of discounts on games you click, not just showing the lowest it's been on Valve's store, but across all stores that sell Steam games. It'll also show you the current lowest price across any store. The vast, vast minority of games I've bought in the last 10 years have not been on Valve's store at all. You can say a *ton* of money with Augmented Steam.

If you are on a Steam Deck, this can be built directly into the Game mode Steam store, by installing the IsThereAnyDeal plugin for Decky.

At my local IGDA meeting last year, the room averaged roughly 30% of sales coming from these alternate steam-selling stores. Valve lets you generate keys for free and sell them on any store.

Also, I'd like to point out that Valve just this week approved the popular Junk Store plugin to be an officially supported project on the Steam Store. This app lets you browse and install and launch GoG and EGS games directly from the steam ui. This was previously only a decky plugin, but it's now been promoted to an official Steam release, that you can grab directly from Valve on the Steam Store to unify all the alternate major storefronts.

It's baffling me to hell and back how many reviews are now claiming that Shadow Generations is so good that it makes the Sonic portion look bad and outdated.

Then again, quite a few of these reviewers are declaring 2000s Sonic games as their childhood favorites, and one even genuinely said that Forces controls better than Generations. That makes me think that a new generation (no pun intended) is beginning to make their mark on gaming journalism, which will no doubt reflect in the maturity and professionalism of the publications themselves for the following few years. I'm not planning on skipping into conclusions until reviews from older, more experienced figures like Stephanie Sterling and Yahtzee pop up.
