Sonic X Shadow Generations thread, movie level out now

Damn, can't believe they'd go and just confirm Mephiles for Shadow Generations like that.

 

They did not need to do this, but I like it!

 

So it's a partnership teaser, does that mean a Batman skin for the game with a one shot comic or expanded animation?

 

Clearly, we've been bamboozled, the DLC Skin is Bat-Shadow and the Stage is obviously "Gotham City Zone"

 

Alright, place your bets! What do you think we’ll be getting for the additional level and skin? My assumptions are:

• Batdow the Supehog, Gotham Zone
• Movie Shadow, Real Life Zone
• Tie-In Shadow, Extraneous Media Zone (Corocoro / IDW / Prime)
• Forgotten Shadow (Mephiles / Android), Game-We-Arent-Expecting Zone
• Unrelated Shadow (SA2/H&ShTH/06), Re-used Generation Zone

 

Surprised I'm first to the joke "Mephiles the Dark Knight", but I'll take it.

Also this makes me almost certain that Infinite is in the game now

 

PlayStation just put out an exclusive trailer of largely new footage, include a look at several cutscenes. Most notably, Sonic vs Shadow, which makes me think Sonic might be our third boss rather than Infinite.



Man...those brief snippets of Sunset Heights are actually really good looking.

 

I'm pretty sure I saw black bull in there as well... We might be getting a boss per Zone which is cool. Hope they're all fun though, Mania and Superstars taught me that bosses at the end of every act was waaaay too many for all of them to be well thought out and interesting. Shadow Gens has fewer levels, perhaps it'll pull it off.

 

Those brief cinematics of Shadow fighting the Death Egg robots really make it feel like this is the kind of cool shit they wanted to do in Forces, but couldn't due to lack of... time? Budget? Care? I got no clue.

 

We already have more than three bosses confirmed? Biolizard, Metal Overlord, now Mephiles, and Black Doom himself was always a given. Nevertheless, if Sonic is going to show up anywhere, it'd be Chaos Island, right?

I actually had to go back and check the footage, because it's not Black Bull...

...what the fuck is that thing?

Uh. Regardless, we definitely won't be seeing a boss for every act, because the acts and bosses themselves are separate. Unless you count those four enemies Shadow fights at the end of ARK act 1 as a boss, I suppose. But we've seen footage of ARK act 2 in this trailer and obviously it's not connected to the Biolizard fight.

 

Ah yeah, I mean third numerically but I did forget about Biolizard momentarily. It's like to be Biolizard for the ARK, Metal Overlord for Rail Canyon, Mephiles for Kingdom Valley, Sonic for Sunset Heights and Black Doom for Chaos Island. Maybe they insert Infinite for Sunset Heights and then everything else gets bumped up one, or maybe (and I really hope this happens) we get Knight for Chaos Island and Doom is a standalone boss like Time Eater.

We have seen this guy in previous footage, is a generic miniboss, probably an end of level thing.

 

Do you remember where? Because I haven't seen this thing until today.

I kind of envisioned Doom as not being tied to any specific location in particular, rather to the warped Radical Highway/Westopolis we keep seeing (which I have no idea whether it has actual acts?). I was sorta taking it as a given that either there is a boss per "era" like in Sonic's side, or each stage has its own boss from the same game, while Doom was always going to be like Time Eater and be a layer atop all of that. Though, the presence of Time Eater in this trailer does make me wonder what they're going to do with it in the game proper. I know everyone hates the original Generations final boss, now would be a great time to correct the worst thing about the original release.

 

I think they're gonna pull a Last Story.

Black Doom is the regular final boss of Shadow Gens, and if you beat it and Sonic Gens, you get a True Final Boss, which is some unholy fusion of the Time Eater and Black Doom that you fight with Super Sonic and Super Shadow.

The Original final boss of Sonic Gens is retconned, in a similar vein to Final Horizons having a new final boss.

 

I wonder what kind of reasoning they'd have to avoid using Infinite in Shadow Gens?
Is it his popularity? The fact that he himself is a reality bender? That wouldn't track because Mephiles can also mess with time. Just a numbers thing and they wanted to make sure there was a slot for Sonic to fit into without going over the level count? Strange.

 

Because Infinite is just so unlikeable that not even the mindless Time Eater wants to have to bring him back.

For a trailer where I should "feel the power" of a console, figures that it's only in 1080p, lol

 

Funny that they're really pushing this game for PS5, reminds me of how Shadow was originally supposed to be playable in that Sony Smash Bros All-Star Battle Royale thing
