Briefly back to the discussion about the worse GI, does this Frontiers mod with Unleashed stages seem to do the GI justice? I actually have a harder time telling than in Shadow X, so maybe it’s closer to how HE2 should look. Check Windmill Isle later in the video:

All of them except for the Mazuri boss arena directly port over the GI

I thought HE2 didn’t use premade GI that could be “ported.”

Forces, and mario and sonic at the olympic games used prebaked GI. It's only games frontiers onward that stopped using it because sonic team developed a realtime lighting system for the open world, making baked lighting obsolete within their workflow. Frontiers still has support for baked lighting though, despite not using it outside of the open world's cavern segments.

That looks so much better it's insane.

Maybe they should just go back to prebaking the GI. Especially if they can't get Frontiers or SHGenerations running at a high framerate on PS5. Sounds like we're sacrificing both visuals and performance. And for what? Day-night cycles? Maybe?

Is it the realtime lighting that looks bad or the style?

I'll be honest, I don't think Frontiers really benefitted that much from having a day/night cycle. I think the next game should take a Mario Odyssey approach and have maybe 7 or 8 small scale open-zones with really defined pre-set visuals for each locale.

Day/Night cycle actually made the game worse for me because of how terrible it was implemented. There wasn't a gradual shift. You could see the jerky transitions whenever the shadows shifted, like some ticking clock.

Yeah, I remember thinking it looked really clunky. But then again, what doesn't in Frontiers?

older Bethesda games and uh, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet for some reason also have this going on. I remember watching the ticking shadows in vanilla Skyrim ehehehe

    Life.
    (Edit: around 0:53 seconds in)

Am I imagining it, or did Colleen O'Shaughnessey redo Laura Bailey's lines as Omochao?
They suddenly have Tails' cadence. No doubt done for the new control scheme.

The have re-recorded Omochao's lines, yes But it's Erica Lindbeck voicing him now, his VA from TSR rather than Colleen O'Shaunessey. Lindbeck also took over the role of Blaze from Bailey at the same time.

The reason for Omochao's lines being recorded is likely because Bailey has stepped away from a lot of voice acting now and has also become a much bigger name since Generations in 2011. Whilst Blaze will likely keep her original Generations voice, they needed new lines of dialogue for Omochao and opted to redo everything for him. Control scheme dialogue had been genericised across platforms (it used to be specific for different platforms, and there was no Nintendo version of course), plus there's gonna be new hints for the Chao.

Honestly I felt like this should've been the play for Frontiers from the get-go. It's kinda crazy how they walked right past Odyssey and looked at BOTW / open world action games instead.

They rerecorded Omochao's lines because now there's button remapping so the control tutorials had to be generalized from instances like "Press A to jump" to "Press the jump button to jump". It was discussed earlier in the thread.

Ah, there's that new version of It Doesn't Matter that's been mentioned before. I like how Generations has a style of its own when it comes to its soundtrack.

Ngl I like the new chaos island remix after a couple of revisits.
I like how chaotic and noisy it is while gradually it becomes somber.
    This one's a grower.

Going on a world adventure with Mario as I rolled in a ball down hills and jumped into a colorful city filled with photorealistic humans. And it had vocal themes! Mario literally made Sonic Adventure 3 man! And Sega just walked right past it! Agh!!!

I like how this post also describes sonic unleashed except without the rolling in a ball part

You overlooked the part with the photorealistic humans.
