He was literally created in the hopes of curing Maria’s disease, likely as an experiment in regenerative capacity, if the Biolizard is anything to go by. This just feels like nitpicking the dub for the sake of it.

Or for Shadow's body to produce antibodies that can then be transferred to Maria.

  3. Just wanna point out that Smiling Friends used its realistic acting for the sake of comedy, not drama.

Yeah I wasn’t nit-picking. I just think the word choice is kind of “bla” and it’s not very clear how Shadow could help. Not a huge criticism. I think it’s the combination of the acting WITH the line that made it sound weird to me. It’s too specific.

A more natural thing would simply have Shadow say something like “How can I be the ultimate life form if I can’t help you?!”

Granted, anime in general exaggerates as people have pointed-out. It might be this just sounds worse in English since I can understand it.

This sounds really weird. Can you give some examples to illustrate your point about dialogue?

in real life people stutter and talk over eachother and pause in the middle of sentences and get sidetracked in the middle of a sentence or need people to repeat what they just said or mumble inaudibly or overuse certain words like "like" or just fully fail to convey what they want to. and all of these things happen a lot in real conversations.

conversations in media almost universally flow much more smoothly than real, normal conversations do, because normal conversations between normal people would read like a hot mess in a script

It's right in the preface of McKee's seminal book about dialogue:

The counter-examples do exist in movies like The Meyerowitz Stories or, well, that one scene in Family Guy. And they're talked about by all sorts of video essayists on Youtube. But even then they're still mediated by editing and the fact that there's a story being told. Well-constructed, celebrated monologues delivered with a lot of emotion conceal the way they hardly ever, if ever, happen in real life because people interrupt each other all the time (especially in tense moments). Dialogue in film (and really any display of emotion) is often reflective of what we would like to say or do because it's better realized than our everyday actions.

They gave Maria the most anime girl voice I have ever heard in a Sonic game.

    That's not a compliment.

  9. "They gave the anime looking girl an anime girl voice" is definitely a contender for the sentence of all time.

They gave Eggman the most anime fat smart upper-middle age man voice ever heard in a Sonic game. :V

That skating animation is still so goofy-looking after all these years. I feel like the only place it looked right was in SA2, and it's looked off since.

Something I noticed/something I like is how this forum is more critical of the trailer while YouTube comments are hailing it as the greatest thing ever.

Actually, outside Maria's voice, I did enjoy it. We might finally get a sonic anime ish thing with good animation. And while I have never been the hugest Shadow fan, it's nice to see him not written to where I hate him again.

The concern for Maria and the frustration at not being able to achieve what he believes he was made to do, which is something for the benefit of people, I enjoy that. It's not entirely accurate to what his character was at that time, but I honestly don't care about that that much.

I think it's nice too for the most part. Just — I really do think David Humphrey's Shadow was perfect. It had this menacing, yet softly-spoken kind of sound.

Too bad he can not come back to voice him, though.

It reminds me of when people get mad when there's anime games shown off in a Nintendo Direct but go crazy over a Mario RPG.

It's trying way too hard to be cutesy and baby-ish, and it's just weird and unfitting.

    What even is this argument?

  20. What do people even mean when they say "trying too hard" anymore? What does it mean to "try hard"?

It feels like another way of saying "I don't like this thing, but I can't really explain why"
