Sonic X Shadow Generations announced, releases Autumn 2024

    The best choice would be Silver because he was the one (besides Shadow) that was dragged to the White Void without being kidnapped by the Time Eater. He was a Rival just like Shadow.

    But... it could only work as DLC. He has nothing to do with Shadow's campaign.

    Really, expecting this to be an extra playable character was a really strange long shot. I don't know why virtually the entire fanbase jumped on it. It's another major character, one that hasn't been officially showcased in Shadow Gens yet. But everything about the game suggests that Shadow is the only playable character. A random icon on a regional website is not the way to announce a second playable character.

    I understand most of the fun in a game comes from experiencing surprise, but I am this close to calling myself DESPERATE for more footage

    I want to see Kingdom Valley, White Space x Open Zone, and just anything. I want all the footage man, because if they pull off a lower-budget expansion to a remaster...I gotta wonder what'll happen with a bigger budget you know. I guess I actually want to see how this all plays out for once, rather than dreading release

    the easy answer: the original game was in one (I believe in-house) engine, nearly 20 years ago, and the new game is in Unreal, and there is no way you could remotely even drag-and-drop everything in to make it work if you wanted to. Even a """simple""" """conversion""" would take years of work, and it wouldn't be worth it.

    the crazy "I have beaten P3FES, a game that is 110ish hours long, multiple times, over the past 20 years" answer: yeah sure the bones of the story content are the same, but it doesn't change the fact that on a technical level, literally nothing from the original was reused. Movement is different. Models are, obviously, different, and they're different in the way that models from 20 years ago are different from today, meaning that you can't reuse animations from them either. Gotta go do that from scratch too. This includes all of the Personas and enemy types*. Same with the environments, collision, lighting. New story scenes did get added, along with additional mechanics and content for SEES party members that didn't get social links in the original. The EN localization was redone, all voice lines were re-recorded in all languages, all social links are voiced now. The battle system is very different. I wouldn't even liken it to the OG Persona 4's battle system (if what you think this is is "the old system but you can control characters"); while it's still the 1-more system, being able to chain party member attacks breaks the game in ways that you never could in the original; additionally, how the downed state is handled is different from the original too (it doesn't take a full turn to get back up; attacks that hit multiple enemies don't need to be Weak on all of them to get a 1-more). Also they have limit breaks now too. Also the dungeon crawling has been completely overhauled, not just in the obvious details (the bits that are generated in the layout, enemy lineups), but in the various ways floors can be modified or added to by the game (Monad doors, tarot effects big and small, blackout floors, treasure hands, a floor being populated with nothing but minibosses).

    P3R plays totally differently and I would know this because I spent the final 20 hours of that game grinding The Reaper two characters at a time, something I never would've done in the original game, to get everyone to 99. That would be something I would be grinding Monad for instead because fighting the Reaper is a total headache in P3FES.


    *assuming that they were dumb and didn't smartly reuse what 3D models and anims they had for them from P5 and SMTV

    Honestly, at this point what kind of surprise is that even supposed to hint at anyway? And what connection does it have with the Sonic ones? Is there gonna be a character accompanying him, except not playable, like Omega? Or is there actually no connection to the Sonic images and they were only there for no other reason but because it's Generations, so of course the 2 Sonics have to appear side to side like that somewhere?

    I think it's a slightly misleading web design put together by someone who was rushed to add in character bios. In the past we've had wonkyness go into the websites over rushed output, I think this is just another example.

    Maria is always with Shadow in a figurative sense. So I'm sure there's gonna be something a little crazy like Black Doom (who is dead) getting "brought back" through the Time Eater and White Space. I'm not entirely sure how that figures into Eggman trying to undo his past defeats, or if it does, but I don't think we'll have to wait much longer to find out something since the Anime Expo is less than a day. Maybe we'll finally get a good Maria render that's not 25x25 pixels big.

    To this day I'm not convinced that Covid lockdowns didn't heavily impact SMM2's development and that they had to rush out a lot like the SMB2 shroom instead of a proper style or World Maker, but that's a whole other discussion entirely.

    The way the slots are set up right now are most likely just thoughtless design but it would be funny if we got a classic Shadow somewhere.
