How many times have we thought something was an obvious decision and they just don't do it because that's how Sonic Team operates.

I'm genuinely just expecting a straight port of Generations for modern platforms, with the Shadow stuff being an entirely separate option you select from the title screen.

If they do something with the Generations side, the most I see is the Shadow fight being altered somehow to tie into unlocking the Shadow Generations portion of the game. Like you beat Shadow and you get a message saying 'CONGRATS NOW YOU GET TO SEE WHAT SHADOW WAS DOING WHILE SONIC WAS ON HIS ADVENTURE!'

Or a cutscene is added/altered sort of imply Shadow was elsewhere or goes elsewhere prior to/after his boss fight. They could add something small to the pre-Time Eater fight cutscene too.

Shadow's campaign will definitely be it's own thing. I don't even think there will be a skin for Generations because its gonna be running in a completely different engine!

I mean, those two things aren't necessarily mutually-exclusive. For what it's worth, the Steam Page does say "newly remastered visuals and bonus content", and while it's vaguely-worded enough to possibly just refer to Generations in general, "bonus content" is a strange descriptor for "we made completely new levels based off the old ones".

  5. As long they'll add option to imput config in-game (that isn't buggy), I'll be fine.

The “&” belongs to “& Knuckles” for the franchise, so they decided to go with Sonic X Shadow instead. Seems pretty straightforward to me.

They should implement haptic feedback for the Dualsense.

I have a question: Does the "X Shadow" part of the game play pretty much like Frontiers? I keep looking at the gameplay and it just feels like Frontiers, and it's not just the lighting. Wouldn't that feel pretty jarring going from a Boost game like Generations then moving to the second half (or third?) of the package and playing pretty much a completely different game.

And Sega isn't advertising this like a game bundle, they're treating it like another new part of the game, in the same sense as Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, but the difference in that was that, while the Bowser's Fury part of the game was built using Odyssey's engine, they replicated the physics of 3D World to the point where it's virtually indistinguishable. But With Sonic X Shadow, it clearly (at least to me) looks and feels like a different game.

This will be important when the "Sonic X Shadow & Knuckles" DLC releases.

Classic Sonic plays completely differently from Modern Sonic so not really jarring, people would prefer a 3rd different gameplay thing if anything

I mean Bowser’s Fury is a different game, doesn’t even play the same, Mario controls differently ans have full 360 control while in SM3DW he only have 8 directions, nevermind the huge difference between the game structures, BW is an attempt at an open zone thing that SM3DW simply isn’t

while Shadow Generations looks closer to frontiers, it still looks closer to Generations if anything, with the whole revisiting past stages and all that

I don't really have a problem with the name Sonic x Shadow, I don't think anyone outside of our terminally online circlejerk will really know or care about the implications of it lol.

I just hope the logo is a placeholder, I think it looks kind of ass tbh. Like the kind of logo for a 2012 Apple app store game. Generations had a really nice logo to begin with :/

The trailer features a few things that are characteristic of Frontiers. Here's everything I noticed.

    • Rings travel to Shadow before being collected. It's hard to make out, but the collection effect itself also looks the same.
    • The hint ring is the same.
    • The chromatic aberration effect looks very similar.
    • The jump looks virtually identical, both the effect and the jump arc itself. It also has a characteristic where Shadow freezes in place for a single frame before activating the effect, something Frontiers also does.

    • This particular boost distortion effect:

  15. I hope SEGA do a collectors edition too like they did for Generations. That was a really nice one

Even aside from the mid 2000's Sonic X Shadow shenanigans, Sonic X Shadow Generations is a stupid title for a game. It feels dumb to say and I imagine upon request the immediate reaction of most parents will be a blank confused stare. If the title isn't simple enough to remember and google later, then it's a bad title.

This, definitely. I think it's supposed to be pronounced "Sonic cross Shadow Generations" rather than "Sonic ex Shadow Generations", or at least that's the way that I've heard it pronounced in Japanese games and anime titles. Like "crossover". It's a bit of Engrish that doesn't clearly translate back to English, especially in written form.

And because the TTYD remake released today, I'm just gonna mention than the villains in that game are called Cross-Nauts, not Ex-Naughts. Same thing as this strange game title.

I should clarify; that's supposedly how it's pronounced, although it's not entirely clear in-game. Goombella does specifically clarify that the X-Yux enemy is pronounced "cross", and with that pronunciation it also makes a "naughts and crosses" pun. But the jury is still out.

It's the Generations of Sonic X-Shadow. Meaning you get to roleplay that episode where Shadow tries to murder Cosmo.
