"The game wasn't out and Sega/Sonic Team wouldn't share the necessary materials" and "SA2's story would interrupt the comic arc at the time and Archie had stopped doing standalone specials" don't contradict one another. I don't think there's a need to be condescending about it, I was just providing info that was published in the comic itself lol

I'm not trying to be an ass. I posted a story that I heard over the course of years. I'm sorry if it seemed that way.

I will agree that Penders statements somewhat compliment each other and paint a full story, they wanted to do a full Adventure 2 adaptation but didn't have all the proper information and didn't want to destroy the pacing leading up to issue 100 either, and because the only other option was a Sonic Super Special (which they didn't make anymore) they compromised with a one issue story.

My bad. Sorry for how I came across.

You were the one who presented that information about the Adventure 2 Archie adaptation and all I wanted to do was share what I was told to be correct, which were Penders own words from an interview.

Regardless now we have a better idea of why they didn't do an adventure 2 adaptation in the Archie comics at the time so this is a net win.

Not lost on me that you liked the comments that confirmed your bias and not those that added a new light though, which says everything I need to know.

I liked the comments which presented claims in a neutral and informative manner, not the ones which were directed as jabs towards other users.

Didn't post any jabs. And they weren't "claims" it was the truth I was sure was correct and was easily accessible to be proven as factual information. But sure.

  7. Crazy how this went from like Sonic X Shadow Generations to Ian Flynn and Ken Penders discussion in like a day

Can we just agree that when Ken Penders is inserted in a Sonic discussion it never gets out of the Ken Penders topic?

I'm still in disbelief that Sega is releasing a game called Sonic X Shadow.

I mean, so far the most popular movie of this year is named Godzilla X Kong. I don't think that most people associate an X between two names with shipping.

The highest grossing movie this year is Dune Part 2 by nearly a 200 million dollar margin compared to Godzilla x Kong.

Literally nobody cares about the specifics. The point still stands.

And yeah, I agree that the title of this game is difficult to get over. Even if you grant that the general public doesn't associate "name X name" with shipping, the Sonic community definitely does. It's a strange choice. They could have gone with any of several other options that wouldn't raise any eyebrows.

With the announcement of a panel at anime con for the shadow short I’ve been wondering if the title choice (“Sonic X Shadow”) is meant to remind audiences of the Sonic X anime.

No it doesn't because it's not the highest grossing movie of the year and the one above it is above it by a high margin.

I've long gotten over the Sonix x Shadow Generations just like I got over Pokemon BPSD being called "Pokémon BDSM" and Sun and Moon being called "Pokemon SM" most people are just going to get over it and the Google results for Sonic x Shadow will be of this game now.

    It's going to be fine.

Pretty common for Nintendo to do so. Fire Emblem Engage and Paper Mario Origami King were both apparently finished far before they actually released according to rumors and data miners. They like to sit on games to release them at a time suitable to them. However, this seems wildly out of character for Sega, who likes to rush games to market asap and usually don't have the foresight to think of ideal release windows (they released Sonic Superstars on the same week as SMB Wonder when they easily could've delayed a month, had a more polished product, still released in the holidays and likely sold better!). So yea I am surprised at Midori's comment here. Edit: so apparently they're in the debugging, Q&A and marketing phase atm. That makes sense, but I am curious as to when Sega plans on announcing the release date for this game if its already that far along.

With regards to the game reportedly being done, I think it's important to remember that this... isn't really a full-on new game. From what we've seen so far, it's a barebones port of a PC game from 2011 for current consoles with a handful of new levels for Shadow stapled on the side. I don't think that'd require nearly the level of development resources and time that a brand-new game like Frontiers or Superstars would.

Sonic Colors:Ultimate similarly should have been an easy slam dunk, but somehow they dropped the ball on that one. And yea I know it's a remaster and not a port like SxS: G but thats also an entire new smaller game included with this release so that closes the gap between them I feel.

So, for the Shadow side of things, I wonder what the optimal way of implementing his upcoming media into Generations will be... Specifically, in having to follow along with / choosing levels. The immediate thoughts that come to mind are:
    • Having Shadow be a third 'transformation' next to Modern and Classic Sonic, where you have to press the button once more to swap them out.
    1. Would Sonic Team completely replicate the Generations selection area for the new engine?
    2. ... Or redesign the layout to fit in with Shadow's stuff?
    • In the main menu, implement a 'Shadow Campaign' button.
    1. I suppose mentioning the above ideas here has merits, just remove the need to swap.
    2. A dubiously rendered map with icons pertaining to all the locations you'll explore, a-la SA2 & ShTH?
    3. Or would this be one tediously long level, hopping from one zone to another with little care to fully fleshing them out?

  18. My guess is Gens will remain untouched, but there will be an additional "Episode Shadow" off to the side like Bowser's Fury.

Yeah it’s plain as day from the footage we have that the base Generations and Shadow portions are running in different engines. I think the marketing is pitching the whole thing as a Generations port to modern consoles with “Shadow Generations” bundled in too.

I have a feeling they'll at least do the easy thing and add a Shadow skin for Sonic Generations. That seems obvious.
