I wish 3D via VR was better explored. It's something I'd love to mess with it, but like you said, it takes a lot of finagling. I'd be much more inclined if something like SteamVR had an easy built-in way to try it with 3D-capable games. So far the furthest I've gone is hunting down a specific version of the Opera browser so I can watch a couple of VR YouTube videos properly.

I wonder if the 3D functionality will be kept in the remaster by pure chance of the devs forgetting it exists and thus not removing it :ruby:

Don't forget. They collaborated with freaking Cybershell last year for Superstars.

Used to play it on my old 3DTV. Made Gens much more gorgeous and eye-popping than 4k, even at "just" 1080p or even 720p.

It's not that complicated. You can use this addon to play 3d games or watch 3d videos in SteamVR.

You can optionally couple it with a virtual monitor utility and/or 3d game patches for plenty of possibilities. There is also this for games with poor performance.

I used that to play Ori 2 on a cinema-sized 3d virtual screen along with a DIY surround set. Brought the game to a new whole level of immersiveness, which is ironic considering it's a sidescroller.

Nope they got him too, they seemingly had him Tweet out the news about the Sonic 3 billboard in Tokyo as they retweeted it, and he tagged them. He doesn't really make creative content so it's probably the best they could get him to do. Scratch that, I forgot he draws occasionally, and is pretty solid at it.

At least he's not producing any videos on behalf of SEGA yet. The dude is one of the most insufferable "shout at the camera" types I've ever seen.

Rails have kinda just worked without issue for a while besides a minor issue where sometimes the rail swap hop goes backwards which happens in frontiers and unleashed. I imagine it wouldnt be hard to iron out though

Rails have been perfectly functional for longer than they were ever a problem. Like what, SA2 and Heroes had problematic switching? The were some changes after that, but ever since Unleashed rail grinding has remained largely the same and entirely reliable. I don't think there's any need at all to be worried about Rail Canyon leaving you at the mercy of spaghetti code.

That said, grinding has been a boring waste of time ever since Unleashed gutted all the nuances and turned it into a auto-running quick step section at the best of times. Grinding needs a mechanical rework. At present, all you have to do is touch a a rail and you get propelled forward. If its a single rail, you're now in a cutscene. If there are multiple rails in parallel, you just tap the stick/bumpers to hop to the next rail when an obstacle shows up. Hold boost to fast-forward. It's so dry.

I'm all in favour of getting rid of boosting entirely, but if that's not in the cards then at least get rid of it whilst grinding. Honestly.

Bring back balancing/leaning and braking, possibly without the chance to fall off (unless the rail fully vertical or inverted). If rails were more physics-based, balancing could be used as means of maintaining speed. Additionally, rings and other items (even boosters and spikes!) could be placed along the edges of rails to teach players about balancing, as they'd be out of reach from a neutral position. Rail switching would still be on the bumpers, but you could also have split rails (like on train tracks) to act as another minor obstacle, meaning that as well as hopping across trails sometimes you'd merely have lean in a certain direction. You could get some pretty snappy action this way. Braking would allow you to regain control if you picked up too much speed.

And at the end of rails, allow players to perform a well timed trick score a bonus of some description. Final Rush was a legitimate rush for just how well it utilised rails as a mechanic. The same level design in Shadow Generations would be rubbish. And to that same effect, play around with integrating rails creatively into the level design again. There's so much that you can do with rails than suspend them for miles over pits.

The tag works. You're using it wrong. Replace thing with spoiler

Any UK folks planning to get the Switch version of Sonic x Shadow Generations at launch - Amazon UK currently have £5 off the game on all the other platforms, but not Switch for some reason. Unlike some other games the Switch version isn't any more expensive - actually it's 5p cheaper - so I thought this was odd and queried this with customer service. They agreed it didn't seem right that it was excluded from the deal when the base price is basically the same as the other versions. Though they said they had no power to amend the deal, they did give a £5 gift card to even out the price so it matched the other platforms. It's only a minor saving, but I thought I should flag this up regardless in case anyone's thinking of ordering the Switch version from them.

Personally, I'd already been given £5 credit as an apology for them not providing the paper plane bonus that should have come with my copy of Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (not that I'd been actually bothered about that, mind - I'd only ordered the bundle as for some reason it was cheaper than buying just the game), so between those two I've managed to get £10 off overall, which makes it feel like a much more reasonable purchase. = )

Rails have also been targetable with the Homing Attack since... 06, right? Have we actually seen much done with that in the nearly 20 years since? You'd think that would make it easier to get creative with rail layouts without being too unforgiving.

As nice as it would be if the games better utilized physics in general (as if anyone on these forums needs to be told that), I do somewhat disagree with your boost point. I think boosting has as much potential for grinding as it does for running - if anything, I think it'd combine nicely with balance mechanics as an extra layer of risk/reward - SEGA just needs to utilize it more interestingly (again, in general), and maybe give it some tweaks.

if they were commissioned by SEGA to make it does that not count as official artwork at that point? either way it looks cool, this artist is great.

Yes, I've been following them on Twitter for a while now, they seem to knock it out the park every single time! They've done some great Sonic pieces in past, and great fanart of other series too. Their Twitter handle is @KornArt - definitely check them out if you enjoyed this commissioned piece! = )

Not really Sonic X Shadow as such, but a lovely little animation just went up to YouTube to celebrate Batman Day, looks like @Boxer Hockey and co's work. Fantastic!
