Since we're on the topic of biblically accurate stuff:

    Source from Maekawa on this:

    https://x.com/mizuhano/status/1219241936134889472

The verse it apparently draws from:

"33 Nothing on earth is its equal—
    a creature without fear.
    34 It looks down on all that are haughty;
it is king over all that are proud.”

And then finally, the SonicOfficialJP account somehow taking this angle into account advertising the fight, decades after Maekawa left:

Even though I knew nothing about them lifting directly from the freaking bible of all things to write Metal Overlord dialog, this feels so vindicating on multiple levels holy shit

They just casually threw scripture into a one off final boss to pull off their own Ultron for absolutely no reason lmao, AND THEY STILL CARE ABOUT IT SOMEHOW??? Absolutely no one is telling me this series had no thought put into it's writing man lol

I've got to see another story value the free will vs programming paradox Metal has going on again someday, it's just too good

  2. Saying Generations has a story at all is being extremely generous to it.

Shadow can turn into a Black Doom squid now so the guy himself deserves a weird new form of his own. It looks to be some kind of fusion of previous bosses which would suit the game's theme well too. I just wanna see the whole thing whatever it even is.

Shame, it really could use a change of pace.

A change of pace? Nah, that's the previous boss fight, haha. ; P

Yeah I don't see them touching Time Eater at all. I'd love to be proven wrong though since I genuinely think it's the weakest segment in Generations and we got the Drop Dash added, but I'm not holding my breath.

I like the concept and atmosphere! But that's sort of where my praise ends. There's far too many visual elements that are very distracting and make it difficult to determine what to do on a blind playthrough. The characters trying to encourage attacks too make things even more confusing initially.

It is also a bit unfortunate that the aspect of 'both Classic and Modern Eggman are together' that the Final Boss has going for it isn't really used at all. I get not wanting to over-Shadow (tee-hee! Hire me to promote this game.) the Time Eater, but you could just say the final boss is controlled by only one Eggman and nothing would really change. Something like the Time Eater spawning in small bits of the two Eggman bosses you fought previously to try to lob at you would've been cool and perhaps better enforced that aspect of the boss.

I always really liked the design of the area in the cutscene just before the Time Eater boss. Always thought that would make for a good true final level, instead of going into the final boss straight after Egg Dragoon. I don't expect them to do anything like that though lol

  9. Would be cool, but the level design would definitely contrast with the rest of the game.

...well, it may not contrast that much with Planet Wisp.

Yeah, can't say that I'm getting too much Black Doom vibes from that dollar store Shuma-Gorath either. Like, I've never liked the aesthetic direction of Black Doom or the Black Arms, but some cohesion would be nice.

And if we're doing Time Eater discourse, then let me just say that the platforming section you do in the White Space to reach his portal is an absolutely brilliant build-up moment, one of the game's biggest highlights and easily the best storytelling this series had seen since 1994.

Really? Moreso than the stuff from Black Knight? I, uh, I'm not sure how to respond to that. I'll say this about Gens story though, it's more than what the Classic games go for. It's not much, it's barely even anything, but still. And it's certainly more than Superstars. Seriously, how can you have animated cutscenes, yet an almost absolutely nothing story at the same time? And I wish that game's (lack of) story was its biggest problem.

I totally squeaked by and bought vanilla Generations on Steam Monday, just to have it.

I finally understand why folks said Classic Sonic was over powered and why there are gripes with how Superstars handles (despite correct physics).

I can’t wait for this. Take my money.

A fusion of previous bosses is much more cohesive than purple dust with a scary face.

Y'all made me remember how disappointed Time Eater really was for me, and how much I complained about it after first playing it. One can dream they would fix it.

I meant cohesive to how other Black Arms -adjacent characters look.

Maybe it's all explained in the game's story, but neither that metallic shell or the pink tentacles scream "Black Doom" to me.

I would argue Black Doom was already dollar store Wizeman and that it's a good idea to get experimental with his design. I don't think you'd be satisfied if they just reused Devil Doom again. I theorize that Doom fuses with the ARK for the final boss which includes corrupting all the Artificial Chaos tech hence purple tentacles everywhere.

Speaking of Wizeman the new design seems to still take inspiration from him too.

Anyways, for some reason the latest session of the Sonic Symphony has new footage of Shadow Gens' Rail Canyon. Which at least confirms the Rail Switching Mechanic from Rail Canyon is coming back.

Kinda reminds me of a DKC Minecart Level as a Boost-Level, might be a bit tame, but the crowd is loving it and I can work with that until release.

That sure is rails. I hope this stage isn't devoid of more elaborate design like we've been seeing, because Rail Canyon was already a lot of rails, and nowadays you don't even have to balance.
