I'm not trying to come off as overtly cynical, I'm just not happy with this compromise.
I have my original game on my account, likely nothing serious will happen and i won't lose it.
But still, this is what it is, the original game, and its entire history of modding and fan content, is effectively less accessible. That sucks, no matter how much i've seen it coming or expected worse.

One thing to keep in mind is we don't actually know how hard it'll be to port over mods to Sonadow. It looks like a wrapper around a Hedgehog Engine and Hedgehog Engine 2 game to me and Sonic Gens looks very damn similar, so I can't imagine it'll be a huge barrier.

We don't know how easy it will be, either. Hopefully it's very easy.

I just don't like delistings on principle. This specific decision doesn't affect me, but I have felt the sting of delistings of other titles just because I haven't kept up with the news or random Twitter posts.
This isn't as bad as those though. This one isn't a surprise delisting since it was announced, and while it's obnoxious, it's still "available". Ideally I would prefer if they just gave you the old version as an extra incentive. It's not like they're going to sell it on its own ever again. But hey, this just let's me tell people use their digital five finger discount card in the future.

The fuck are you yelling at us for? What do you want us to do?

A new Steam Community post for Sonic Generations. TL;DR: Sonic Generations Collection will be offered as part of a new "Sonic Legacy Bundle" for $60, or lower if you own any of the games already.

Good thing the original versions of those have been preserved then and i can watch them whenever i want

and besides the clearly bad faith argument that compare the game situation to those as if it has been heavily modified in its look and content-like say GTA Trilogy- , it’s not even really delisted, it will still be available, throughout steam or other legal sites

I mean if all it took is some bundling to consider a game not preserved and throwing a laughable fit, for a game that is : available on steam still, available through legal sites, AND available through piracy, all cause you don’t want to throw a little more money at a corporation that doesn’t need it, then perhaps you are really the one who doesn’t really give a shit about preservation

not like anyone who actually cares about REAL preservation would look at a digital store version that is most likely updated throughout the years, and doesn’t include the real 1.0 version of the game available anymore

Given the prices all of these games are this bundle will probably go on sale for a steal, so I'm not too torn up about this anymore. The $200 bundle thing irked me at first but this is a pretty reasonable solution all in all

Should the Xbox version get a similar treatment, I would hope that bundle includes Sonic the Fighters and Unleashed, since the mega drive ROMs were never available on that console.

Ignoring my argument and repeating what it was a response to doesn't magically invalidate it.
Because someone argued that it'd be fine for the game to be delisted after 13 years. Pay attention.

I was hoping they'd just give anyone who buys SXSG the original too, but I'm pretty happy with this. Knowing how Sega games are the bundle'll probably go on sale for like 20 bucks every couple months.

Looks great. Very colorful and faithful to the original, except his eyes seem to be a little smaller.

It's nice to see a render of Black Doom that isn't that one that has almost all the color sucked out of it, because it's the 2000's and everything has to be "Dark and Griddy".

You know what? This sounds surprisingly reasonable.

Though I do find it hilarious how the Sonic games in that bundle have pretty much nothing in common aside from being on sale all the time. They should've called it The Bargain Bin Sonic Collection.

I like think of it as the Gens + Adventure 1 & 2 + Enough crap to get the price tag to $60 bundle.

  17. I wasn’t even trying to provide “art criticism,” just personal preference. It’s a small difference but as someone who likes to draw the characters a lot, the sausage-ness of that Shadow’s body stands out a lot. Looking at the edits though, the tapered one I provided does give a worse impression TBH.

I'm glad it'll be in the Legacy Bundle. I understand SEGA needs to sell the remaster and doesn't want it undercut in value but having the original stuck in a £200 bundle would have sucked.

Also, on the topic of games preservation, I've been convinced lately that piracy and emulation are ultimately the true form of preservation, as unfortunate as that fact is. It's nice to see this occasional win.

As someone who mostly lurks around here, @DefinitiveDubs and @BenoitRen , please stop being needlessly aggressive to everyone all the god damn time. It’s very tiring.

To throw my two cents in- Sega is a business first and foremost, of course they are going to push people in the direction of buying the new version. The fact that the original will be available via this bundle, which discounts any games you may already own and will likely be on sale regularly anyway, seems like a fair compromise to me. Yes, it sucks that it likely required a lot of pressure from the social media team for them even just to do that, but we are lucky to have them fighting our corner. And yes, old games should be preserved and not be subject to this constantly, I agree completely, but at least it’s not totally vanishing. No one was ever going to magically convince Sega to just keep the old version up standalone alongside SXSG, that’s just not realistic to expect, sorry.

It's kind of hilarious that SEGA just conveniently waited until I went to bed to offer a much better collection for OGens at a normal price tag. I no longer have any particular complaints other than "they should have just given it to you with the remaster".
