I actually disagree with this, as Gens was the first Sonic OST I had noticed had more "electro" electronic songs on it. SA1 & SA2 had tracks with breaks in them a la late 90s/early 2000s drum & bass and breakcore, Sonic 06 had more modern dnb stylings but still kept some of the orchestral sound design choices (think Crisis City & Kingdom Valley having their drum & bass percussion but the melody is being performed by violins) for many of those songs.

Meanwhile I had never heard anything like Speed Highway Act 1 Cash Cash Rmx in a Sonic game prior*, which has some of the "early 2010s EDM boom" electro house styling. This makes sense of course because Cash Cash was decently big in the mainstream EDM scene at the time.

which is a lot of words to say that I disagree because the original game's OST was already like this. Also Shadow's tracks in SA2 were the electronic ones on that OST.

*but I am probably missing some memories of songs on Colors lol

I actually can't tell what you're trying to say here. I don't know how to talk about music, can't define a lot of genres and have literally never heard of "breakcore" before. But yeah, I can't tell what you're disagreeing with.

You say that Shadow was associated with the electronic sound in SA2, which yes I agree with. And he's usually maintained that association, which is why Senoue has continued it in Shadow Generations.

The overall style of soundtracks in the series has shifted more electronic instead of rock over the years as times have changed. However, the 4 tracks we've heard from Shadow Generations so far (Radical Highway in the Games Fest trailer, Kingdom Valley, Bullet Station and Final Rush in the level comparison trailer) all feel significantly more electronic and intense than their originals. There wasn't such a consistent intensity presented by the Sonic Generations soundtrack, which veered more towards pop.

Basically Shadow Generations music sounds particularly befitting of Shadow. Music like we got distinct vibes from Classic and Modern Sonic in Sonic Generations and entirely unique tracks for all characters in SA2, Senour is able to use the soundtrack of Shadow Generations to really create an atmosphere befitting of the character.

basically my dumb roundabout post was that I'm just sitting here like "it's always been like this for this game", so there isn't a "more" electronic angle for Senoue to direct to because it was already like that in the base game so to speak

Nah, it's definitely not the same as OG Generations. Shadow Generations is a distinct game focusing on just Shadow, so there's a different vibe. Maybe "electronic" isn't the most correct word to use, but either way it's geared towards representing Shadow.

The requirements are lower than Frontiers, so I imagine thisll be fairly optimized. Probably helps that in linear levels you can fine tune the optimization and loading of things a lot better than in an open world.
