I'm not sure I like how the new strings sound. In the original one, they seemed to vary in intensity a lot and sounded more dynamic. In this version they just sound more flat.

It's not a huge deal, though.

I see someone didn't read my entire post.

  3. That’s a version of Xenia running it, not BC. Unless I’m also misunderstanding something about Xenia, does that not count as the Series X emulating 360?

I agree the whole track sounds kind of over-compressed/one dynamic compared with the original :/ It's the electronic music vibe. The drums especially are less sampling and more static (even if they were electronically-sequenced in the original anyway.)
It's not *bad*, but a little bit harder to listen to.

Ah, my bad for assuming it was BC. I took a look, and...

    It's shitting bricks.

Considering the Sonic Generations portion is likely almost exactly the same, what’re the odds it’ll hit 60 fps on Switch?

I would say there's a good chance the Generations side of things hits 60 FPS on Switch. The Switch is a fair bit more powerful than the Xbox 360 and PS3, it's using Hedgehog Engine 1 rather than 2, and Sonic Team is pretty good at optimizing their games on Switch. The version of the trailer released on Nintendo's socials said it was recorded on Switch specs and it was 720p 60 FPS, so I wouldn't be surprised if it manages to hit 60 FPS.

The Shadow side is most definitely going to be 30 FPS, especially if it's built on the Frontiers engine.

I’ll be happy with 30fps Shadow if the Sonic side is 60, ngl

I feel like Senoue has probably directed the soundtrack towards a more electronic angle to reflect Shadow. I was personally hoping that Ohtani would be in charge, bringing on his crew from Frontiers. Kanon Oguni, Kenji Mizuno and some of the others would be so perfect at capturing Shadow's vibe.

That said, I really enjoy this KV remix as well. Senoue is in his element when going full rock though. He's always struggled when leaving that field, and the soundtracks of old games like the Adventures and Heroes reflect this. Senoue delivers gold when he's the lead of a whole team of people creating a piece of music. It's like he digs up and roughly cuts the diamond, and the other artists he work with will polish everything to a radiant lustre. The Final Rush remix from the trailer is fantastic, but Bullet Station isn't. I dunno how to descibe it. It makes me think of Modern Radical Highway from Gens 3DS, which IIRC was worked on by Circuit Freq (Julien K). I wasn't a fan of that track in the slightest.

  11. Game looks bloody awesome, can't wait

  12. That’s fair. I’m not going to bother watching but I read the description and it says Series S. I’ve run it on the Series X and it works fine. Performance problems occur when shaders are loaded the first time. Once you’ve played for a little while, there aren’t really issues. Not perfect, but far from, “shitting bricks,” (though this is a subjective measurement lol).

  13. Why would it be too soon?

Everyone wants that, Frontiers is awful...in that regard.

The open zones being like classic levels for the sequel is the most obvious evolution of the formula, frankly they'd probably have made Frontiers the same way if it didn't have all of its development issues.

yoyoyoyoyo they're bringing back the SA2 lost chao missions? :V

I actually disagree with this, as Gens was the first Sonic OST I had noticed had more "electro" electronic songs on it. SA1 & SA2 had tracks with breaks in them a la late 90s/early 2000s drum & bass and breakcore, Sonic 06 had more modern dnb stylings but still kept some of the orchestral sound design choices (think Crisis City & Kingdom Valley having their drum & bass percussion but the melody is being performed by violins) for many of those songs.

Meanwhile I had never heard anything like Speed Highway Act 1 Cash Cash Rmx in a Sonic game prior*, which has some of the "early 2010s EDM boom" electro house styling. This makes sense of course because Cash Cash was decently big in the mainstream EDM scene at the time.

which is a lot of words to say that I disagree because the original game's OST was already like this. :words: Also Shadow's tracks in SA2 were the electronic ones on that OST.

*but I am probably missing some memories of songs on Colors lol

  16. I also think Jun Senoue's non-rock songs (I'm not talking bout the Genesis-esque ones) are underrated.

I actually can't tell what you're trying to say here. I don't know how to talk about music, can't define a lot of genres and have literally never heard of "breakcore" before. But yeah, I can't tell what you're disagreeing with.

You say that Shadow was associated with the electronic sound in SA2, which yes I agree with. And he's usually maintained that association, which is why Senoue has continued it in Shadow Generations.

The overall style of soundtracks in the series has shifted more electronic instead of rock over the years as times have changed. However, the 4 tracks we've heard from Shadow Generations so far (Radical Highway in the Games Fest trailer, Kingdom Valley, Bullet Station and Final Rush in the level comparison trailer) all feel significantly more electronic and intense than their originals. There wasn't such a consistent intensity presented by the Sonic Generations soundtrack, which veered more towards pop.

Basically Shadow Generations music sounds particularly befitting of Shadow. Music like we got distinct vibes from Classic and Modern Sonic in Sonic Generations and entirely unique tracks for all characters in SA2, Senour is able to use the soundtrack of Shadow Generations to really create an atmosphere befitting of the character.

I'm not that impressed by kingdom valley (act 1) remix, because it doesn't feel like much of a remix, at the very least compared to how Crisis city was remixed in the base game, twice (doesn't help that both remixes of crisis city are some of my favorite tracks ever).
It's pretty much the same original track but with a faster drums accompanying it.
But maybe I'm not picking up nuances?

  19. Not feeling the remix either, its like they just turned the volume on the strings up to max and added faster drums. Sounds bland honestly.

  20. Well, as I said earlier in the thread, it is similar to what Richard Jacques did with Egg Dragoon remix on the original Generations.
