Forces and Rise of Lyric are from future games. Granted, maybe there may be an exception, but in RoL's case that's an entirely different dimension that has nothing to do with Modern to the point the Chaos Emeralds don't even exist, so as much as I would love something like Sky Citadel or the Abandoned Research Facility, especially for the remixes, there's literally no chance of that happening. Not unless they want to retcon Boom being in the same continuity, but even with Stick's inclusion that makes even less sense than Classic Sonic being younger Sonic, which already creates a complete mess in of itself when closely analyzed.

Honestly, I don't see any harm in bringing in a Forces-era Level for Shadow? I mean when it comes down to it, Casino Forest isn't a bad location...it just has really boring level design. Giving this level actual meat would make it a pretty worthwhile experience. You could really make something worthwhile out of the Water Sliding if you added in more Jungle-based level design tropes.

The game takes place before Forces. They'd have to pull some crazy logic to justify that inclusion when it's not even a very beloved game.

  4. Time Eater will be in Shadow Generations. They could just bring time travel. To me, it's simple as that.

Game about time travel has to pull crazy time travel logic to justify time travel into the future

@InfinityHelios Nah, not so keen on getting a Boom level, tbh. You gotta wonder if they stick to the rule of not including any post-Generations era levels, though.

As the others already said, Time Eater makes it possible.

I know he wasn't in the game, but I can actually imagine there being an Unleashed stage. And no, I'm not just saying it because it's my favorite in the series, I'm just thinking it'd actually be a pretty funny nod to how Shadow was originally supposed to be in it.

wouldn't it be crazy if Classic Sonic played through stages from games that happened later than the point that the Time Eater grabbed him from? haha

  9. I think the question “Can levels from games released after Generations appear in Shadow’s story?” can be addressed in a few different ways, depending on the questioner’s intent.

Can it be explained in universe? I don’t see why not. The Time Eater brought locations from the future into White Space, at least one of which was from an aborted timeline.

Would it make sense narratively if Shadow from the time of Generations goes through the levels without recognizing them? I don’t think it would be that strange. Classic Sonic went through zones he’d never seen before and didn’t comment on them (granted, he doesn’t talk, but still). Modern Sonic may or may not have remembered Crisis City, it simply never came up. I think it’s entirely possible Shadow’s comments on the stages will be likewise limited, perhaps to just a stage or two in the same way Sonic only called attention to Green Hill and Chemical Plant. Plus, depending on the narrative of Shadow’s story, him having been in these locations may ultimately be irrelevant. If the plot is just for him to hunt down Black Doom or something, the stages themselves don’t matter.

Should levels from future games be used in the context of the game being A) an expansion to the original Generations, and B) a celebration of Shadow’s history? With respect to A, I don’t think it’s all that necessary to honor the restrictions of the original game when the original is being updated and tweaked anyway. As for B, I think it would be fair enough if they used a level from Forces, but ultimately I don’t think any stage released after 06 has associations with Shadow so ingrained in the fandom’s consciousness. When they think about playing as Shadow, it’s generally going to be in SA2 - 06, not Forces or Rivals or the like.

I'd be willing to throw out a wild card here and suggest Shrouded Forest from Black Knight. In the recent Shadow 101 video they showcased Black Knight footage despite that being Lancelot. Could be explained by Black Doom twisting realities? idk. Just offering some sort of solution for those that don't want levels from beyond 2011.

  11. Imagine in a scenario where we actually get a Sonic Unleashed stage and it's fucking Eggmanland.

I was actually thinking Skyscraper Scamper. It's no Dragon Road, but if Shadow was in Unleashed I imagine you'd find him there.

A friend of mine pointed out that the Kingdom Valley remix appears to be based on the E3 version rather than the final one:

I don't really see anyone else discussing this, but the trailer mentions that there will be an "Additional Stage [...] (releasing Holiday 2024)" that's locked behind Digital Deluxe?

The level design is sticking much closer to the originals than I thought they would, and that's worrying.

They tend to look similar when they show and compare the parts that look similar.

What's with the piss filter over Rail Canyon?

It looks like Shadow ended up in the Breaking Bad universe's Mexico.

Rail Canyon piss filter aside, I'm very impressed with how the background manages to recapture the feeling of endless, surreal skyboxes of early 2000s Sonic.
