So wait... the 360 version is going to be THAT much different? Christ I won't even bother with the PS2 one then. I'll just wait until I get a PS3 or something.

Okay, I was on another forum, and I was talking about unleashed, and I came up with this bit that perfectly describes it. Figured I'd post it here to sum up my opinion on the game now that I'm almost done with it...

It seems like the Wii version's day levels are like 3-4 minutes long assuming normal or better play (since rank is based on time) which I would assume is the same as the length of the average Werehog stage.

Since the levels I've seen of the 360/PS3 version DO seem to be 5-7 minutes or longer (like in Sonic Heroes and the later games) that would mean that 3 Werehog levels would be about equal to a bit over the amount of playtime in the 360 version.

I still need to play the Werehog levels for myself then because everything I've seen about them looks pretty fun and challenging, if more like a generic platforming game from the PS1/N64 era, so hearing all these negative reviews kinda throws me for a loop.

OH god, no no no, I hate onions ;)
Now I'll never buy Unleashed all because of this analogy.

There are totally different gameplay mechanics between the two games, so no—it's not the same.

And for fucks sake, you are all playing the Wii version of the game. We already knew this version of the game was going to blow. Stop acting like it's the end of the world! Wait until the 360 version of the game comes out and judge that. Period. I'm seeing all this overwhelming negativity with the same bullshit—did you forget the you can skip every single Werehog level if you want in the PS3/360 version? I bet it conveniently slipped your mind when you were filling the topic with overwhelming shittons of cliché negativity. Christ.

It's been one day and I see nothing but the same group mentality bullshit that I've seen for every Sonic game yet. I nearly want to ask someone to donate me a copy of the game so I can properly judge it. This is horseshit.

I thought of many, many ways to word a response to this post. Plenty of things came to mind, but nothing really described it better than this:

You are a tool. A complete and utter tool. No matter how many times me or anyone else has continually told you to go out and play the game yourself before judging it, you continue to be like "OH MY GOD ONE PERSON SAID ONE THING NEGATIVE THE GAME MUST SUCK ;________;" or some dumb shit like that. It's extremely irritating to you see going around with this sort of crap while throwing around totally baseless pre-notions about the game when you haven't even played it yet. I'm questioning whether or not you've even played the Sonic games I've seen you complain about before Unleashed.

Here's my ultimatum to you—buy Sonic Unleashed. Just buy it! Buy it, play it, and then post your thoughts on it. Not my thoughts, not BlazeHedgehog's thoughts, not Rob's thoughts, not sonicfan19075347057453's thoughts—YOUR thoughts. In fact, completely ignore what people say about it, because opinions are entirely subjective and not one single person can perfectly fit your views, thoughts, and opinions to the point where their review will be an accurate representation of the game. Period.

I think once you do this and stop freaking out at every negative review of the game, you'll find that you may enjoy it immensely. You're from a time in this scene where people hated certain Sonic games baselessly because some guy who could ROM hack said he didn't like it. You don't seem to have grown out of it at all, but you're going to have to if you want to actually like this game as much as you say you do.

Or... you know... the game... maybe... isn't... that... good? You know?

I thought this was just a rumor. I didn't know it was confirmed, if so, good. Glad to hear it wasn't just a rumor. But I don't see anything wrong with us disliking this version. We're just discussing it, geeze.

EDIT: BTW, you know I was kidding with my post above this one right?

Oh, there also seem to be multiple Sonic missions even in the Wii version if what I'm seeing is right. That there adds to more Daytime play time.

I've had the game for a fair two hours, and I rate it as fair. The daytime stages are definately a step in the right direction. However, the nighttime stages are far from perfect. The enemies do whatever they can to piss you off, especially the bee things. For example, I was on the night Spagonia stage, and the bee flew off the edge. I THOUGHT I could hit it if I jumped and attacked, but the little fucker moved at the last second and caused me to die.

Another thing that ticks me off is Chip. Every time you're completely focused on an obstacle, he pauses you and causes you to lose your concentration. Like with the Werehog, I was swinging from three poles over a bottomless pit, and I forget to let go of X. Right then, Chip interrupts with one of his blantly obvious messages, and causes me to let go of X, and I fall to my demise.

    MY FINAL RATING: 7.6

Honestly, I expected more. Dimps took the 50/50 concept of Sonic and the Werehog, and threw it out the window. I'd like it more if THERE WEREN'T SO MANY FUCKING WEREHOG STAGES!

Wii. There's just "Dodge *" Missions. Like Chun-Nan, you dodge pots, in Holaska you dodge ice. Things like that.

Alright I've played through the Wii version for about 4 hours or so. And to be honest I find it pretty fun.

So we have the Sonic levels at first. Fun stuff, odd to get the hang of it at first as it's so damn different from other Sonic gameplay, yet it's still fun once you realize what's going on.

The art direction in this game is perfect don't change it. Same with the music.

I even like the werehog. Not enough though for me to accept 3 acts to 1 act as Sonic. But I still kinda like it. It's a basic beat em up, with stretch arms. Although it doesn't really belong in a Sonic game. Also one annoying thing is with the controls. If you mess up you could die, and if you have a wavebird which receptor is not in plain sight and blocked by something, you'll fall a lot (I had to try about 14 times to get by one part in Spagonia where I kept falling back to the floor right before the finish because I couldn't jump properly).

I'd give the game about an 8.5 The Werehog is a tad repetative because he shows up too much, but Sonic is filled with win, as well as everything else in this game (Except the static hub. I would rather not see that, although it's easy to navigate through so in the end who cares)

To me it's easily the best Sonic game since SA2, but I haven't played enough to see if it will beat the Adventure games in the end.

One small thing to note, the night stages in the WiiS2 version are different as well. I can distinctly recall night Apotos from the E3 demonstration (which used the 360 version) and, from what I have seen from the videos, the Wii version is hardly a thing like it. I don't think Dimps was only responsible for the day stages after all.

Could this have anything to do with the sudden excess of Werehog stages in the WiiS2 version?

I think that the excess of werehog is in hopes to win over some casual fags. I don't think we'll be seeing that in the 360 version.

I don't see why they made the two versions so different... it pisses me off... cause I only have a PS2 now and I don't want the crappy version ;)

Shall I remind you that there's hardly any proof of the versions being THAT different? That stuff could simply be prototype material, for all we know.

The proof is watching the level design, watching how the physics play out, watching the difference in care and execution of game material, among other things—the 360/PS3 version dominates in every aspect I can possibly think of. I explained why I thought this was the case earlier—to get more people to want to buy it—and really, it's already working. I'm willing to bet that the Wii/PS2 version is meant to make people feel underwhelmed, especially compared to its superior cousin. This would drive more people to want to buy it (like Quexinos, there).

Really, I think everyone needs to chill the hell out and start being a little less predictable. This is the intentionally bad version of the game. You'd be better off ignoring it entirely.

So then... Your constant ranting that this game you haven't played is utterly inferior in every regards to another game you haven't played is less deserving of a 'chill out'? Don't get me wrong Tweaker, I've nothing against you, but you're just as predictable as everyone else.

That said, the simple fact that they removed stuff when there's clearly about 2GBs of free space left on the disc definitely shows that they don't care, but it doesn't necessarily mean that the game is terrible. To me, it looks more interactive in its level designs, and in a game that's basically an obstacle course, I could definitely use some interactivity.

It doesn't take playing a game directly to judge design from a distanced perspective. I saw a playthrough of the Wii version, and I saw a playthrough of the 360 version of the same level. The way the level flows together, the different gimmicks in the level, the way they're populated, etc etc shows a clear amount of superior thought and effort put into the 360/PS3 version. They had better designers—that's what it came down to.

Also note that the handling of the Wii Sonic and 360 Sonic are different—the 360 version is a much more sensitive and fluid to the touch, and quick to accelerate, being a bit laxer on high-speed turning; the Wii version handles as if Sonic is a motorcycle, and treats jumping as if it is an unrealistic chore. Besides that, the player comes to a full stop whenever doing a homing attack—something that the 360 version does not have, which helps the gameplay feel a bit more fluid and more like the player is in control.

You're right—they don't care. But what they don't care about is the Wii version of the game. As I said in my last post, this was more than likely a concious marketing decision.

"You can get this game for your older platforms, but it won't be nearly as good—buy the newer platforms and a more expensive version of the game if you want the real Sonic Unleashed!"

I don't know about you, but it makes perfect sense to me. It gets them money both ways, and only the people willing to pay more for the game will get the best experience. It's good old fashioned equivalent exchange! ;)
