Almost certain there's no japanese voice option in the PS2 version, not sure on Wii.

Chips' english voice is fine for a character like Silver, but he's a small, cute, puppy/fairy thing. He should have a higher pitched voice, higher than Tails but lower than Cream. His Japanese voice fits his character perfectly, but the English version doesn't quite work as well. It sounds like Jason Griffith is voicing them both, which cheapens the feel of it.

I'm getting the Wii version so it doesn't really affect me, but why not? I know of PS2 games that have a japanese voice option.

about the English voices, I really knew that, practically I have not seen a sonic scene where the Japanese have lots of differences with the English voices.

is there a Japanese voices with Spanish subs in the US version??

  6. Depends if they can fit it in, I guess.

  7. I just saw the vid. I thought Chip's voice wasn't going to be bad, but this is like...WHAT.

And the award for Most Unfitting Voice to a Character goes to...

Jeez, I'd have actually preferred high, squeaky and annoying (think Charmy from Sonic Heroes) over generic stoned young teen.

Also, full Endless Possibility is pretty good.

I dunno why, but Chip's voice doesn't really bother me that much. I just wish he wouldn't interrupt the gameplay every two seconds to tell me how to do something. You think Sega would've learned that we're sick of that shitty tutorial bullshit. No one had to give us a tutorial during the Adventure series, and we didn't need one 15 years ago, so why now? Children these days aren't that stupid.

I don't know... the way all these safety rules, guidelines, regulations and simplifying of everything (take a good look at a candy wrapper. They give step by step instructions how to open the damn thing right on the wrapper!) it could very much mean people are either very stupid or, at least gaming wise, don't have the attention span (or in some cases basic ability) to read the manual or even mess around with the buttons.

Wellp. Here's my impressions on the PS2 version:

Sooooo much unused potential. Sonic stages are incredible. It rarely feels like you're not controlling Sonic, and replaying them to get S-ranks is surprisingly enjoyable. It's just a shame that the game has this one major flaw: there are way too many werehog stages! It's absolutely true that there are 3 werehog stages to 1 Sonic stage! This drags the game down quite a huge amount. The werehog stages are a toss-up. Half the time you get great classic platforming akin to the early Crash Bandicoot games, the other half you get a boring, mindless hack and slash. Mind you, if you enjoy hack and slashes, you'll get more out of the game than I do.

Other flaws: Hub world is nasty bad. Instead of taking out completely like they should have, they made it even worse by turning it into a completely menu driven system, meaning you have to drive through endless menus just to get to a new stage! An actual hub would've been better. Also, no Empire City and Mazuri is balls. And did I mention the shitty american voice acting? Eggman actually sounds worse - it's like they replaced Mike Pollock or something, because it's always growly and weird - think 4Kids Vector the Crocodile. Sonic sounds same as he ever was, but the werehog sounds incredibly retarded. I think the only one I like is ironically Chip... at first it didn't seem fitting, but that's only because I had got used to the Japanese "cliche little kid" voice. It actually works pretty well in my opinion. I think most of you will disagree with me, but that's just my opinion.

ANYWAY: All in all, it's mediocre. Don't buy it for the Wii, you're wasting your money. $30 for the PS2 version isn't too too bad a deal, I guess. Still, I wouldn't really recommend it unless you're such a die hard fan that you can survive the werehog parts to play the small bits of Sonic - which are admittedly brilliant. If I had to give it a score... I'd say... 6.5/10.

That's the kinda review I wanted to see.

I'm heading out in a couple hours, I'm waiting for a buddy of mine to get off work, he wants to see it too. Based on what I've seen this morning, and read from you guys, I'm sure I'll enjoy the Wii version, but the real icing on the cake won't be in my hands until Tuesday evening. I really do hope the hedgehog:werehog ratio is more even in the 360/PS3 version. What happened to all that 50:50 crap we were hearing about? I don't see any 50:50 ratio in this playthru I've been watching.

So.. good sonic levels and mostly bad werehog levels is the general concensus. I won't buy it for anything besides ps3 or 360, but I don't own either of those systems and if anything this has just made me hold off on buying it until I have the time / money like I promised myself I'd do with all the other sonic games since heroes.

Hinchy said in the playthrough that there was no option to change the language on the PS2 version. This game seems to be getting mixed reviews but seriously, the best you'll probably get out of Unleashed is with the Hedgehog Engine, that's being used for the 360 & PS3 versions.

So watching more of the playthrough, I learned that Sonic
looks like the drawings of an ancient warrior the villagers know of in Mazuri
. I'm surprised they referenced it actually.

So, GameInformer gave the PSWii version a 6.5, but the PS360 one was given a 6
Explanation? They think Adventure Fields are boring and the Werehog gameplay on the Wii version was better.
This is even more biased than IGN that said "Thank god SEGA dropped the boring rock tunes". Imputing your musical taste over reviews = Biased.

Can you rip it somehow? This might mean the demo will be out sometime very soon.

Nope, the trailer is also up on the SEGA FTP though.

The theme is based off Apotos (the Greek stage). It's a nice theme. I was hoping for a demo, though.
