    Are his eyes not white there? That along with the pale skin and longer ears make me think they were going for a 'Dark Sonic' type thing before settling on a werewolf type thing.

    Well, amazed this was not used in Frontiers, or a similar thing, at least.

    I would absolutely love a mod that attempted to replace the Egg Fighters with more Egg Pawn inspired designs, but I recognize the amount of work that would need to go into such.

    Speaking other mods that I would love to see: It would be neat to get a texture mod for Orbot to make him red and attempt to update him to his modern look. I'm sure something could be done with the voice thanks to modern AI, but that's all sort of grey and ick for me, so I'd also be cool with a sound-a-like vocal preformance.

    After coming off Shadow Generations, I really wish we had the double jump that started in Colors and has now become apart of speedy hedgehog gameplay. I honestly wish in the remake Modern Sonic had it over that half-assed drop-dash to differentiate the two more.

    Lastly, anyone who makes a drop-shadow mod is my savior.

    I feel like this shows they were going for a more powerful werehog that could still one-shot enemies, but the enemies would be a lot greater in-number to compensate. I can imagine that would’ve been impossible at the time given the frame-rate issues as they were.

    ==

    By the way, I never liked the Egg pawns and enemy designs from heroes. Am I the only one who felt that?

    ==

    Also, is there a mod that makes enemies damage Sonic on-contact? I always found it weird that they couldn’t in Unleashed even though Sonic is so overpowered.

    ==

    I preferred Orbot in Unleashed to be honest. He was more intelligent.

    ==

    I think the double-jump hurts the challenge and never liked it. We already have a homing-attack that we somehow can’t do without an enemy on-screen anymore, so I guess it’s similar, but a double-jump is worse in a way because it has less “force.” Oh well.

    I'm eh on Orbot in Unleashed but love him in Colors onward. I think he's kinda boring in Unleashed because it's obvious he's just there to give Eggman someone to bounce off of so he's not just talking to himself and for no other reason. In the later games he's a more interesting and funnier character, especially with Cubot.

    I don’t like how Cubot is such a stereotype. Maybe it was mostly Colors’s writing though.

    Unleashed Orbot (or SA-55 whatever) suffers from having a really lame vocal performance, I think. He and Cubot aren't anything revolutionary as a comedic duo, and the "Cubot voice chip" gag is extremely lame, but I think they both shine in Sonic Boom. They get the lion's share of observational comedy in such an absurd show and create almost a Statler and Waldorf dynamic.

    He’s kind of a foil to Chip, in a way.

    Chip’s voice makes more sense in Japanese. He’s like an Emul from Shangrila Frontier.
    I still liked Unleashed Orbot.

    idk if it's an unpopular opinion or anything but I've never really been sold on the double jump tbh. I don't mind it and it works well for Colours, Lost World and Forces' block platforming sections but I always felt like the jump dash was more unique for Sonic. Like, any other platforming character could do a double jump but only Sonic can do a jump dash or a drop dash lol. I liked how the jump dash could be used to quickly pick up speed in SA2 but every game since then kind of nerfed it and missed the point of what made it fun imho (except for Colours ironically enough). Maybe the double jump would be more interesting if it was a skill you could unlock or tied to a power up like in Sonic 3&K.

    I liked how it worked in Lost World where Sonic would uncurl during the double jump which left him vulnerable. It added a risk/reward kind of dynamic.

    The double jump in Colors always felt like a bandaid solution to the game's awful jump controls.

    That's 100% all it been in Sonic games since it was introduced. Unleashed HD was the last game to have somewhat decent jumping controls, although honestly they still left a lot to be desired. Colours and all the subsequent games have messed up aerial momentum so much that they rely on the double jump's ability to entirely halt or reverse it so that have some semblance of control. It's functional, but only because they broke it in the first place.

    which is reaaally funny to me given how the cyber space levels in Frontiers also are largely layout remakes, but that was just called asset reuse, not nostalgia pandering, even though it's been over a decade since many of those layouts first appeared. IIRC there's one that is directly taken from SA2 Sky Rail even...?

    edit: ah heck this is what I get for responding directly to a post instead of reading through the entire rest of the thread first. sorry, back to Unleashed stuff after this I promise

    Whether someone says it's 'nostalgia-pandering' or 'asset reuse', they're still basically criticizing the game for not being original enough for them. Don't see how using one or the other would've changed anything in this case.

    I mean, not necessarily. People tolerate asset reuse way more than nostalgia-pandering, because they interpret it as budget constraint instead of a deliberate and lazy way to evoke childhood.

    Was there ever any development material released back when they were still considering making this Sonic Adventure 3, or was there really nothing from that period even made?

    The latter. There's no mention of the potential sequel of the SA2 game.
