I don't understand why you keep calling people disagreeing with you "hostility", but like. No, not really. Again, the comparisons you're making are so generalized that I applied the exact same framework that was allegedly a result of Unleashed to Unleashed and you had to deliberately ignore everything I said except the one thing that could debatably support your point. It's just not a thing fans are well-equipped to calling when it's so vague. Sonic Generations was sold on classic nostalgia, Mania is deliberately evoking as many classic-era things as possible. Lots of people don't even know Chili Dogs are in Unleashed because it's just something the devs thought would be cute.

They fucked up putting Advance 1 on here instead of Adventure. It's the only thing throwing off the whole "AI spits out a list of best Sonic games based on fan sentiment" Vibe

Don't Sonic Colors have Egg Pawns as well? Does it make nostalgia pandering for Sonic Heroes?

I'm not sure how it's nostalgia pandering to have a consistent design language? If anything I want Eggman to use the "old" designs more to draw a line of consistency between the stuff he makes. I actually dislike the Egg Pawns because they feel like generic "bad guy humanoid robots with eggman's face on them" enemies, and it's harder to make more interesting designs in that vein when you're so limited by that, as opposed to the entire animal kingdom. Roundish, slapsticky humanoid robots are a dime a dozen, especially in children's media - and try to make them scarier and more realistic and you get the...generic sci-fi robots GUN has in SA2 and Eggman has in Sonic 06.

You want actual nostalgia-pandering? The generic E102 enemies in SA2 struck me as nostalgia pandering at the time, when the game came out, and E-123 struck me similar when Heroes came out. "hey remember the new character in SA1 that everyone really liked?"

Whether something is nostalgia pandering or not is based on whether the reference crosses some arbitrary line of "old" depending on the player. References to SA1 on almost never get called nostalgia pandering and I even saw a lot of Shadow gens getting celebrated for "recognizing the series's roots and canon" even though all of those games are older now than Sonic 2 was when unleashed dropped.

It can also be treated differently completely arbitrarily different between games IE: Sonic Unleashed referencing Sonic 2 and the old cartoons being considered a breath of fresh air but Sonic Colors doing the exact same thing being a bridge too far. I guess people had already gotten sick of it after one game.

*Does* sonic colors evoke Sonic 2? I certainly never would have thought they had that much in common on my own and am surprised to see people suggest that on here.

I mean were any of the resurrected badniks even from Sonic 2? Was there a coconuts I've forgotten about?

Nope, but there is literally layout remakes of Sonic 1 stages in the game so more of a case could be made there. I honestly don't know why we're collectively giving kazz' posts the time of day since they're either trolling or clearly not connected to the same reality as the rest of us.

The game has Sonic and Tails adventuring through Casino Night: the setting and evokes Classic Sonic in general but yes mainly Sonic 2. You're free to disagree though! Jesus.

Not really in the literal sense. Using Sonic Tails and Eggman as the main characters and kicking everybody else to the curb is what got the Sonic 2 talk going, since everyone thought they were only doing that because Sonic 2 was super popular with mainstream gamers. But outside of stuff like that they're pretty different.

I think the idea for Colors (and Unleashed for that matter) was less so shameless nostalgia pandering and more trying to just get back to basics. Up until then every Sonic game had like a billion characters and crazy stories, I think they just wanted to keep things simple.

But it doesn't. It has colored lights and stars, but that does not a Casino Night make. None of the attractions in the park even are casinos! And even if they were, it'd be hard to call that a Sonic 2 reference because friggin' a billion Sonic games have casino levels.

Yes and Sonic Adventure clearly takes place in Star Light, I mean look at that city and tell me you don't see the resemblance

was Sonic Team already so dried up on new ideas that they stooped down to nostalgia pandering by bringing back Angel Island?

...Now that I think about it, why did they bother making a sequel to Sonic 1 anyway? To cash in on fans of the previous game?? /s

I think the concept of platforming over the temples at the start was fun, and if we're going to keep having kaiju battles I wish someone would realize using them as an excuse for a bunch of high stakes, spectacle driven platforming is more fun than a random flying minigame.

I think I prefer this big fluffy fuck to the Werehog we got. He looks like he actually has stretchy arms and would've been a legitimately funny reveal in the opening. There's an awkward disparity with how 'cool' the final Werehog looks, with how (intentionally?) lame he feels to play in contrast to regular Sonic.

I prefer the design from the concept art with Egg Pawns where the Werehog is just Sonic with a more angled brow, dark spots on his points, pale blue skin, and fangs.

I think it's a neat take on the modern Sonic design. Hope it becomes a mod.
