I'm pretty sure the Iphone doesn't have Multi Touch features that would accomidate that set up.

    Internet.
Er? Plenty of iPhone games out there right now have set ups like that. If people can play quake on an iphone, they can certainly play sonic.

Didn't Apple even patent multi-touch on a portable device or something?

Edit: Jeeze, this emulator is touchy as hell.

Edit 2: So it may come as a surprise here, but this is totally a cellphone game.

In the sense that I mean it's actually a bit crap. It feels like I stepped back in time to the year 2002 and I'm playing a Sonic fangame with sketchy physics. Maybe it's just the version I am playing - there's seriously a bunch of versions for different phones here and the ones with the largest file sizes don't want to launch.

I don't actually think that's an iPhone screenshot there, as the one with the largest filesize (1.16mb) says I need to turn the keypad off because it doesn't support it and I can't find any option in the emulator to do it. Looks like it's for some kind of Sony Ericsson phone (this, it looks like). This version also runs at 640x360 (I think?), the same resolution as that screenshot.

But yeah. This is nothing to write home about at all.

This game actually is great. It's better than the Advanced series IMO. I've been playing it for the last 40 minutes.

So why is "jump" on the left and "boost" on the right? Shouldn't it, y'know, be the other way around?

Got the X1 version of the game to work:

I like how some of the graphics were redrawn for that resolution but most weren't. So you have... super smooth tree! Super smooth Sonic! Super smooth HUD! Blocky everything else.

    I wanna play.

You were able to just come across it during a Google search?

More or less, yeah. It's actually shocking how easy it was to get this. I have a harder time finding SNES ROMs. Once I knew the name of the emulator (KEmulator Lite), it only took a couple searches (fiddling with keywords). On my second search, it basically came up first result.

Edit: I'll be posting videos of the Nokia N958G version and the Sony Ericsson X1 version on my Youtube account sooner or later. The N958G version crashed when I finished the first level so you don't get to see the Werehog there, but I get to the first boss in the X1 version (and die).

What settings did you need to use for the X1 version? I can run the other versions fine but this one tells me I need to flip the keypad back before playing.

Boot up the game, go in to options, set resolution to 480 wide and 800 tall. Under file, hit Reset.

Now just rotate it back around to an acceptable orientation and there you go.

Thanks, works great. Also the X1 version is by far the best of them. You actually get to fight Eggman in it. The others you fight a golden Unleashed robot. It also controls a little smoother.

  12. Right, anyone know here if it's possible to extract the MIDI soundtrack (I assume this is the MIDI format) from JAR file Java Games?

Uh... You don't have to play it with the touch controls. It works with a controller. I've been playing the X1 version with my PS3 controller.

    Hm. Well, how about that.

Edit: Yeah okay even after fighting to get my gamepad set up (it had all my buttons mixed up, so like, I'd press left and he'd jump and I'd press right and he'd duck, etc.) the game is still too clunky to be fun for me, sorry.

I can, literally, make better games than this.

Alright, I'm trying to figure out what files contain the game's resources (sorry but I do like that Sonic sprite), and looking inside the numbered files in the JAR gives me... well, I was hoping for PNGs but the headers are stripped?

Anyone have better luck with this thing?

All I can tell is that the Nokia N958G version of the game has some actual files in it. A handful of *.class files, three or four PNGs (textures for 3D models), and a few *.m3g files that have header data for 3DS Max (models?)

Oh, and one hilariously over-compressed, postage-stamp-sized, 10 second video file of the game's intro FMV.

I was talking inside the files in the JAR, like the numbered files with no extension? In Sonic Jump, those held the game's graphics in PNG format. and the music in MIDI format, but Sonic Jump's resource files actually had header data inside them!

To be honest, I think people would genuinely buy that if it were made
