Shit that SU build sounds super interesting. can't wait to see whats found in that! EDIT: If you wish to download this preview build: http://forums.sonicretro.org/index.php?showtopic=36251
Just to be a huge tease and to draw up some hype. The Unleashed data does have older backups, Not sure if these are in final. (Date modified is 2016 due to extracting the data.) There's weird filenames such as "culling" There's a weird folder named reddog and there's some .dds files within. Opening those DDS files shows a debug icon and uhm sonic's dismembered arm? I plan to do 1 release a week or so getting the Wii bit's done first.
Wow an Unleashed Beta? That game went through some pretty good overhauls in its time I'd love to see what's in it
From my looks at the files there's many backups and older versions of levels along with that weird stuff from above. This is a picture of everything I've got to release but some can't be posted here due to rules, But they will be released elsewhere that allow it. http://imgone.co/images/2016/11/24/I5xE.jpg The Second Generation's disk is the same as the other sadly. I haven't been able to try the unleashed beta as I'm lacking a 360 XDK currently. My aim is to do 1 release a week. Going to do the black knight next. Not sure what changes are in that.
Seems like the Unleashed beta might have some really interesting stuff. Looking forward to its release. Also, I'm kinda curious about if Black Knight has left-over Secret Rings stuff in it.
It'd be interesting to see how late in development that things were changed. I'll be honest, I'm not expecting a huge amount with how late in development it is. At the same time, any Unleashed proto stuff is better than none whatsoever.
I'm so interested in the Unleashed one. Already see some different files just from that screen shot there. Should be cool to see some old layouts. Especially if that is the old Mazuri layout.
There's a LOT of unused layout data in the final release of Unleashed, and a lot of them don't match the level geometry at all. The backups could very well be the files from those versions, but without the geometry backups they might not be super fun to look at. However, it's very likely the collision is intact, so it might be playable in some way or another. Interesting stuff.
Actually since it says disk 1 on there for Unleashed, did it have a disk 2. Since the GUI stuff in Unleashed contained disk1 and a disk2 icon in the original release. And in the update data later on they removed it and deleted it out. So might contain the High Res GIA as well on there. But probably only half the game is on there. I'm just guessing here since we can't see all the files. Just seeing that name on the disk reminded me of it. If so this can be a pretty old build. Kinda hope thats not the case since not all content may be on there then. Since you'd only seem to have disk 1. Also noting eggman land isn't in there nor are some of the other levels files from the look of that screen shot there. Due to them being in the later half of the game would support that this is the two disk deal. Heres from my dump of the game.
geeeez count me as another person VERY interested to see what's in that Sonic Unleashed build! It's fascinating to get to see what sort of changes the levels went through prior to release especially if there's even older versions of the levels still on the disc. Any chance of getting a full list of the files on the disc in the meantime while we wait for the release, so we can speculate better about what data may/may not be present? If not no biggie, I'm patient and it's awesome you're gonna be releasing this at all c:
Here you go, https://mega.nz/#!zhlHBTAT!fFHylcpLItjyMjAiFvCuV0gRnvI0MPqprmWzNic_zyc EDIT: Ooops ignore unleashed.txt/FileList.txt in that list ^ There is 23,940 files in the preview build. (Ignore unleashed.txt/FileList.txt it was me failing at getting the filelist :P) Not sure if there was a disk 2. I asked the seller before I paid him €400 for the lot and he said that was the only disk given. I've never played unleashed myself so I couldn't say more. I normally stick to the retro sonic games but as a collector and someone trying to preserve stuff I grabbed these. I do know of 4 GC builds but these would sent me back another €350 or so. Also @DRX if you read this I still need to send you that heroes disk. I haven't touched it and I've been waiting to hear back. (I'm Demon from assembler if you can't remember as I use another nick here :P)
Yeah from looking at the file list that's only the first half the game so there might have been a disk 2 then most likely. Since it seems like this is a really different handling of the game. Really awesome. edit: Still worth checking out for the layout data for the Daytime levels since we can view the collision of the level in the game. And see how different the layout is.
this is awesome, thank you!! I'm not super familiar with Unleashed myself but I'm sure Dario and Zoney can tell a lot from this. edit: It looks like there's old geometry data for Chun-nan/Mazuri Night but not for any of the other stages, unfortunately.
Thank you very much for the file list! Seeing some significant changes in file structure, amount of files for stages and some signs of possible backups and layout changes. We should probably make another thread towards documenting what's inside once the dump is out.
I got bored and powered on my prototype / pre-release xbox 360 XDK and it worked (it shouldn't have.) I'll just leave this gallery of pictures. http://imgone.co/category/unleashed Couple of pics embeded, click to open the full image.
Oh my goodness. You are the best. This is what we all wanted. edit: called it with the disks woo. haha
WOW this build has the debugger in it??? that is insane I can't wait to see what sort of stuff is in this
