Mercury, Hinchy and I have been hard at work on Time Twisted. Its high time we showed you something. First the game runs on top of Mercury's 100%+ accurate engine AeStHete. That's a name you might want to remember because its a very advanced opensource Sonic engine that has yet to be released. More info on Mercury's Blog. Now on to time twisted the game aims to grab the best elements from all 5 Genesis Sonic games to create the best Sonic experience possible. The game has a total of ten planned zones with a future and past version of each stage. Each stage also contain 10 at least semi-original gimmicks. Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails are planned playable and the story will revolve around UFO's, Time Stones, Chaos Emeralds, Robotnik, and Metal Sonic. Hinchy's has been working very hard on a completely original soundtrack for the game. The album called Two Ages can be found on the Sound Track Website. And it's an incredibly easy to fix thing. The problem is that the camera is reading Sonic's position before he moves in the current frame. The fix would be to get the camera reading Sonic's position after he moved in the current frame.
Except it's not. However, the camera position is LERPed to make the smooth transition, wich may be what you guys think makes it awful.
Interpolating the camera position? Ugh x_x No wonder it looks bad. Why not just assign the camera coordinates in relation to Sonic coordinates directly? It isn't that bad. And if it's because of the camera suddenly jumping if the scroll locks are moved, well, make the locks move instead. That's what the old games did. They also assigned a maximum speed of 16 pixels per frame to the camera, but that's very fast and only would kick in if Sonic goes as fast as hell (3 screens per second) x_X
I would LOVE to see this game brought over to my engine. The object scripting isn't quite where it needs to be to do everything that's needed though. Eventually though, I wouldn't mind seeing you bring your work over to my platform if you'd be interested in that. I'm really impressed with your work. It reminds me a bit like Sonic XG based on the video you have there. Keep up the excellent work.
It wasn't canceled. Retro Sonic and Sonic XG merged together, so the game is called Retro Sonic XG. After all the work being put into his engine, Im sure Taxman is most definitely still hard at work on it. And also, I just love the sprite that Overbound used.
Pretty awesome cutscene when Sonic travels in time. Although the graphics look a bit on the unrefined side, but it doesn't take away from how great the gameply looks.
Camera Fix Video Clip Dami and I talked it over and he ended up making me an entirely new camera. Check out the video clip and tell me what do you guys think. Thanks for all the great comments too. Though I have to say I think the graphics look great and I can say that too because I didn't make a lot of them. Except maybe the badniks they kinda suck I made those... and they are getting redone.
The camera work looks much better, but Sonic's walking sprite looks weird to me for some reason. It just doesn't seem as nice as the others. Also the standing sprite has such tiny eyes and is darker then it goes to a brighter sprite with big eyes.
it's hard to get a proper good look at the graphics as all we can see is a youtube video, which isn't the greatest medium in terms of quality and framerate
The camera is better, shame about the framerate of the video recording. I have to say, I didn't play this until a few months ago, I liked it. I have to say that the level art is looking wonderful. I wish I could do backgrounds. Anyway, I'd definitely be downloading this at SAGE.
Glad you guys like the Camera its an exact replica of Sonic 2s thanks again Dami. Anyway here are some screenshots so you can get the exact look of the level.
your sprite artist needs to work on his consistency, Sonic's shoes changing betwen using 2 and 6 shades of red in particular
MFZB made me new badnik sprites for Time Twisted here's a picture of one. I really like this sprite because it reminds me of the blue scorpion in Sonic CD.
