    Good call on the Rock Zone palette—the red-orange looks a lot better to me, for whatever reason.

    This hack rocks, how did I not notice it before O.o;;

    Are you keeping the final levels in the game, or are you only including the completely new ones? I hope it's the latter, because having to play through the same unedited stages again was what put me off Delta and Long Version.

    Yea, just the new zones, in this order (slight change from before):

    Desert Zone
    Rock Zone
    Wood Zone
    Winter Zone
    Hidden Palace Zone
    Casino Night Zone
    Cyber City Zone

    I always just went to level select on Sonic 2 Delta and Long Version so when I decided to make this I figured since there's 7 zones, that was enough to make a whole game instead of an extended Sonic 2. Plus, I didn't want the number 2 in the title.

    Oh, and thanks for the comments everyone!

    Perfect then, considering the majority of Sonic games have 7 zones =P

    Are you going to make new bosses too?

    It's interesting you brought that up, I was just looking at what bosses to use yesterday. Here's the bosses I was thinking about using:

    Desert Zone - Aquatic Ruin Zone Boss
    Rock Zone - Hill Top Zone Boss
    Wood Zone - Emerald Hill Zone Boss
    Winter Zone - Metropolis Zone Boss
    Hidden Palace Zone - Mystic Cave Zone Boss
    Casino Night Zone - Casino Night Zone Boss
    Cyber City Zone - Final Boss

    That seems like it should fit pretty good, but there could be changes. I didn't think about making new bosses. If I decided to do that, I'm assuming I'd have to switch over to a dissassembly cause right now this hack is done in hex. Actually, the final copy of this hack isn't being touched with anything except the Visual C++ hex editor and FixCheckSum. (SonED2 and TLP for graphics, mappings, and layouts.) Has anyone made new bosses in their hack yet?

    If I were you I'd flip the Desert Zone and Wood Zone bosses. Having Robotnik's vehichle up in the trees doesn't make much sense. In the Desert it could be like a little dune buggy.

    It makes sense that Eggman is using totem polls in a desert. I for one think EHZ Boss in Rock Zone would be much more fitting, unless there's gonna be lava in Rock Zone. You know, rocks, drills?

    Yea, Emerald Hill's boss might not be the best for Wood Zone, but there's not many choices left. Maybe Oil Ocean's boss could work if I change that part of the level to be 3 trees with spaces in the middle or something. The only other option I can think of is maybe to flip Wood Zone's boss with Winter Zone's boss.

    Exactly. Plus, the arrows that fly from the totem poles match, since I'm using the arrow shooters in Desert Zone. And yep, there's lava in Rock Zone. It's edited lava from Metropolis Zone.

    Yeah, SATSEE has a brand new GHZ boss and half-done MZ boss, though the GHZ one still sticks with the swinging ball theme.

    Remember how I said I might finish this hack over summer if I didn't have any more delays? Well guess what? DELAYS! This semester of college took a lot of time and there was about 2 months with very slow progress. But now I've been on summer vacation for about a month and I've been working on this more. I added more sprites to the list of what will be used in each zone. Some of the sprites have new art and new palettes. I also got more level layouts done. I did layouts for Winter Zone and Hidden Palace Zone.

    Next is Cyber City and Casino Night and then I'll be going through and adding the ring and sprite layouts for each level.

    Awesome stuff! The background for Winter Zone is particularly superb—I like how it follows the original patterns of the Desert background to make up its environmental layout.

    Have you considered recreating the original background for Hidden Palace from the mockup?

    You know what would be cool? If you made the water slide function like that in Labrynth Zone in Sonic 1 where you slide down. I feel like that was always planned but it never happened.

    It's been a while since the last update. There were a few months with almost no progress because of college and stuff. But in the last few weeks I've been getting a lot more done on this.

    I finished the floor layouts for Cyber City and Casino Night zones. Actually, Casino Night layouts from the Sonic 2 Beta are almost the same as in the final so it was more about fixing anything that wasn't done. Desert Zone is now Dust Hill Zone since we know it's the true name now.

    Cyber City Act 1 is modified from Metropolis act 3 since we know that was how its layout was reused but don't worry, it's not going to play the same as Metropolis 3. Act 2 is all original and has lot's of different paths to take. I also made some adjustments to the art and palette. Hopefully it looks better now.

    Some of the other levels got little fixes for where the boss fights take place. So, now all of the level floor layouts are done and I'll be starting on ring and sprite layouts soon.

    Right now I'm working on placing the bosses in the levels. I did the event scripts and now I have the edit the code for the bosses so they show up in the right spot. Another thing I'll have to do is layer deformation.

    I should be able to get a lot done over this winter break. Maybe by this next hacking contest I'll have this finished. I can't say for sure but the chances are better than they were last year.
