I'm heavily considering doing a Sonic the Hedgehog Marathon sometime this July, before Sonic 4 comes out. And to make it meaningful, it would be a charity event too.

Of course I'd stream it and such.

But, I'm wondering how I should tackle this... Here are the games I'm going to play:

Sonic the Hedgehog, Normal Playthrough, all Chaos Emeralds
Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Normal Playthrough, all Chaos Emeralds
Sonic 3 & Knuckles, - Normal Playthrough, all Chaos Emeralds
Sonic CD, Normal Playthrough, all Time Stones
Knuckles Chaotix, Normal Playthrough, all Chaos Rings
Sonic Adventure DX, All Characters Playthrough
Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, All Stories Playthrough + Green Hill 'A' Rank
Sonic Heroes, Team Sonic Playthrough + Final Story
Shadow the Hedgehog, Good Playthrough + Bad Playthrough + Final Story
Sonic Unleashed, Dicking around
GameGear Madness, Dicking around

Notes: Fuck Sonic '06. And GameGear Madness is as it sounds, just playing a bunch of the GameGear games on Sonic Adventure DX.

I think something like this could actually take 24 Hours... 24 Hours I'm perfectly fine wasting, mind you.

What do you guys think? Any suggestions?

Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, All Stories Playthrough + Green Hill 'A' Rank Might set you back a bit, how good are you at the game?

Considering I played the game last Christmas Break (so, a couple months ago) to get all the A-Ranks (over half of them), I'm very good at the game. I can play through the entire thing in my head. In fact, it's my favourite 3D Sonic game. So, I think I'm fine in that regard.

What I'm worried most is with Sonic Heroes and Shadow the Hedgehog...

Not to doubt your skill, but I think "24 hours" is definitely an unrealistic estimate here. 48, maybe. Nonstop. Most people need sleep, food, and toilets though, so I'd say you'd probably accomplish this in stretches over a three or four day period if you're really good.

Here's a suggestion: Play one old and one new game a day, all the way through. Sonic 1 and Sonic Adventure, Sonic 2 and SA2, Sonic 3(&K?) and Sonic Heroes, etc. It'll make it a bit more of an ongoing process, but that's still a good stretch of time each and is a lot more forgiving. Each one would still be plenty enough to consider a marathon all on its own.

5. You could spread this whole thing over 4 Days for the impending release for Sonic 4.

Wouldn't be so tiring on your brain, and definitely would have all these games completed.

And then end it with a purchase and first playthrough of Sonic 4.

Do it.

On my butt in front of the computer. Where else?
I'm working on working up the willpower to work on learning how to make my own Sonic fangames. Not quite there yet.
I was planning something less ambitious: an LP series of the 2D games, pre-recorded and editted in advance, to be released at a rate of exactly one zone per day, every day, until the release of Sonic 4, on my YouTube page. But that's a cool idea. The one snag is that I'm not entirely sure 24 hours is a feasible time limit for all of those games, and marathon-playing videogames without sleep, well, it's no picnic.

I would actually do practice runs and time yourself for each game, just to see if you can do them in that time.

Hmm... I like this idea.

I gotta rework some things later and see what you guys think.

Yeah, but he took five hours. An expert can do it in three.

Save this for the near release of Sonic 4, it would be perfect to play through all those games and then wrap up the event with it. I will definitely watch if you follow through with this.

You're going to be sick and tired of playing Sonic for awhile after you do this. :eng101:

This may also be something to stream live (which I surmise you are going to do), similar to what was done with Desert Bus. You should contemplate playing Sonic Spinball too.

Yeah, but who the fuck pisses/shits four times in 5 hours?

Also, my friends and I are doing something similar, but fuck charity. This wednesday, we're playing through

1
2
Spinball
CD
3
S&K
Chaotix
3D Blast

We did a MegaMan marathon in December; we got through the first 6, then people lost steam once 7 and 8 hit...

Sonic should be much easier... I'm limiting myself to one or two levels, otherwise everyone else won't get an opportunity.

Yep, I want to stream this.

I'm going to have to skip out on Spinball. Never cared for it nor had the patience to try to beat it.

I'm thinking of adding Sonic 3D Blast to the mix. That would make 12 games and thus I'll be able to play 4 games a day to keep with the theme of "4". :P

Why not get the Gameboy Advance Player for the Gamecube and throw the Advance series in there too?

I don't have a GameBoy Advance Player. Not to mention, I don't care too much for the Advance games, sans 1.

Otherwise I'd throw Sonic Advance 1 in place of Sonic 3D Blast...

But anyway, here's the list I have now:

Day 1:
Sonic the Hedgehog; Normal Playthrough, all Chaos Emeralds
Sonic Adventure; All Characters Playthrough
Knuckles Chaotix; Normal Playthrough, all Chaos Rings
Sonic Unleashed; Dicking around

Day 2:
Sonic the Hedgehog 2; Normal Playthrough, all Chaos Emeralds
Sonic Heroes; Team Sonic Playthrough + Final Story
Sonic 3D Blast; Normal Playthrough, attempt at all Chaos Emeralds
Shadow the Hedgehog; Good Playthrough + Bad Playthrough + Final Story

Day 3:
GameGear Madness; Dicking around
Sonic CD; Normal Playthrough, all Time Stones
Sonic Adventure 2; All Sides Playthrough
Sonic 3 & Knuckles; Normal Playthrough, all Chaos Emeralds

Day 4:
Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode 1; Full Playthrough

Day 3 will definitely be the best, IMO. Sonic CD AND S3&K AND Sonic Adventure 2 AND probably some good GameGear games? Sounds like a treat for me!

I won't be posting in this topic much until the marathon date comes closer...

Anyone know of any good Charity to donate to? There are quite a bit of options. >_>;

You're just going to get to the modern games and kill yourself.

Also, I have never cleared any of these games. The only games I've ever beaten without cheating are Enter the Matrix, Star Wars Battlefront: Rogue Squadron, and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed PSP.
