Spoiler: Winter Jam Hilarious issue. Probably the best one-shot of the year. Also, Eggman has got legs, 'nuff said.
Spoiler I absolutely loved Sonic's existential crisis of not being able to win anything, particularly by going too fast in the snowball fight/race. I don't know if this is Iasmin Omar Ata's debut on Sonic, but it's certainly a strong comedic offering and I'd be interested in seeing how they write the more dramatic side of the series.
Not gonna lie, I feel like these comics have been increasing the number of panels and dialogue that seems to be made just to become internet memes. This issue isn't necessarily the worst offender, but they're pretty on the nose with stuff like the "Live Reaction" reference Spoiler: Badnik Live Reaction With that said, that was a fun issue. IDW's been doing a lot of these lower stakes, more casual stories, which is great, because I think those are consistently the best stories it has to offer
I think calling those panels meme bait is actually a giant stretch. Every comic has reaction panels, and this story is themed around reality television.
Jebtube said the same thing about Mania's animations and I genuinely don't get it. It feels like a nitpick for the sake of having something to criticize.
#68 is out today Spoiler A bit of a fluff issue, but with the Fang mini starting next month (still not sure why they didn’t just make it its own book), I guess they didn’t want to throw anything at us on the hostile takeover plot for a bit. Nice little read, though. This seems to be the point at which Evan’s trying to shift to a style that I see as being more Uekawa-influenced, something she teased on her Tumblr a couple of months back, and I think the results here are pretty good! Still recognisably her art, but without the characters’ brows being as pronounced as they usually are, making it pop more when that is employed. Of course, the environments were gorgeous in this issue too, which I think can be credited to the colourist (Josh Burcham) in large part. The story isn’t particularly involved, but it does, of course, of the characters nicely. Sonic solemnly respecting the salamander’s habitat right before making fun of Knuckles by comparing him to it is pretty much pitch perfect to what the character should be, imo. Anyway, roll on Fang next month!
Wait, instead of 4 issues on the side for Fang like usual, they will replace the main comic for a while? So like 4 months before returning to main story? Or is it shorter
Say, whatever happened to that thing where that person was claiming Belle was a ripoff of their own character, anyway? Just wondering since the Sonic the Hedgehog comics don't have the best track record about lawsuits and characters...
Clout chaser who tried to start a controversy over BS. Nothing happened, everyone just moved on when his attempts at gaining infamy didn't work.
Somewhat related to put your minds at ease IDW renewed their Turtles license with Paramount. Turtles is IDW's big money maker and the fact that they didn't lose it means they might not be going down anytime soon. Sonic should have a stable home unless SEGA says otherwise.
In all honesty, neither party can afford the financial hit of that stopping right now, so it being renewed is a bit of a no-brainer.
