Sonic the Hedgehog Cinematic Universe Thread (& Knuckles)

Finally saw Sonic 2 a couple days ago.

Better than the first, but I still didn't really like it outside of Knuckles acting like a little Worf. The GUN Commander seemed like he was going for a Leslie Neilson kinda vibe, which made me wish he was still alive and played the role; I think it would have worked really well.

The references were cute (especially Labyrinth Zone) but, as in Frontiers, not a substitute for storytelling; it's a painfully generic "kid wants to be important and have friends" story, which is fine, but that's not my bag, and the references don't really do much to compensate. The number of times a comedic back and forth failed to land for me because they didn't workshop it just a little bit more took me out of the movie quite a bit.

Also, I really hate how visible Sonic's nostrils are.

 

Looks like we're getting Knuckles' show this Fall.

 

Fucking finally. We knew it was coming this year already.

What does that have to do with Sonic and/or Knuckles?

 

Sonic 3 was previously announced to release on the same date as Avatar 3, so a lot of people were going on about how the movies would be "fighting", but I feel like Sonic 3 will also be moving into the next year at least.

 

Financial ceiling raises. Avatar 3's absence in the market means more screen space for Sonic 3. Avatar 3 was the biggest competition. Only thing else in that time frame is a Disney project late November, and the following week a Jordan Peele movie as well as Wicked Part 1.

With a wide open window like this with no competing family product on Christmas week? Something horrific would have to happen in order for Paramount to let that slip. Avatar wasn't shifted to a Summer release, it was pushed back an entire year. The December window is a hot one.

 

It is very possible that the directors and actors’s unions/guilds will be going on strike soon. The Sonic 3 script may have been finished before the writer’s strike but good luck making the film with no directors, voice actors and on screen actors. And here’s the thing… if they all go on strike: I won’t be sad at all. I’m legit excited for Sonic 3. But it’s more important that the talent who makes movies are treated with the dignity they deserve. And that includes animators, who I don’t believe are unionized

 

Avatar 2 kinda sucked and Sonic 2 was actually kinda good. Paramount should bring it on. I think they're probably banking on marketability darlings Sonic and Shadow both in one movie even if Avatar 3 turns out good (lol).

Or hey maybe this strike happens and either it goes into development hell or the movie comes out as a half-AI trainwreck nightmare that tanks the franchise's reputation again. What a timeline.

 

"Knuckles" has added five new cast members, including:

I'm interested... This could just be recasting for actors who they couldn't bring on, or it hints at the opportunity for new characters to join.
I really don't want to see more human characters, but I'll assume that's the case to lower my expectations.

I am also going to assume these are for human characters, but they could also be for the chaotix potentially or more echidna characters, if they arent totally wiped out (i genuinely dont remember if knuckles is the last echidna in the movieverse)

 

Carey Elwes as Mighty the Armadillo would be great.

 

That would fall under horrific even. Paramount gotta start praying.

 

Or better yet they, and all the other movie studios, could agree to the WGA’s terms and then give actors and directors a fair offer.

Is this a delay? I was under the impression that it was planned for early 2024.
