That's quite an unpopular opinion, at least from what I have heard. I have only seen the first four episodes, and I personally thought episode three was by far the worst so far. In my honest opinion, Wanda was insanely insufferable, and Wade probably would make me upset if I had not seen the first two movies beforehand, where I liked Wade's character fine enough. It's fine that you liked it, though. Great, even.

While on the topic of the Knuckles show, I have an unpopular opinion as well. I thought episode 4 was good. It was really goofy and stupid, but it was fun. I disliked the bits of Wade getting shocked by the cage, and the part with Wade and the Christopher Llyod Echidna from SA1 (I don't feel like spelling the name) at the bowling alley counter was too long and unfunny. I was not really bothered by the severe lack of Knuckles in the one, which is odd because I adore the movie-verse's take on Knux. The musical number nonsense was enjoyable enough to keep me from not getting bored.

No joke, my favorite part of the show is the opening (or closing, in episode 1's case). The Warrior is catchy of course, but I really like the drawings of Team Sonic on those sadly outdated discs that Metal Sonic first appeared on. Jokes aside, the art style there seems to me like what a daily Sonic newspaper comic strip would look like, and as a comic strip fanatic, that makes me happy, and sad that we never got one. I'm glad A Very Sonic Christmas uses this style (it kind of does).

I think episode 4 was most people's favorite episode because the rock opera was just so over the top.

    I also enjoyed episode 3.

Because of Sonic the Hedgehog 3's box office performance last weekend, it has officially entered the top 10 highest grossing movies of 2024!

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2024_in_film

Congratulations to SEGA, Paramount, and the team involved with the film for this achievement!

Why weren't Prison Island and the GUN headquarters the same setting? Shadow wouldn't have known anything he needed was also where he was kept and hastily escaped from and you could have bullshit some excuse why it had tighter security on the revisit.

Yeah, I'm furry. Got a problem? Oldbie
Because they clearly didn't care about anything from the game's story other than Shadow/Maria. They should have just completely cut everything else about SA2 out.

From the Adam Sandler school of directing. Shooting on location is a working vacation

    1.) probably more to line up with SA2;
2.) I think the whole Tokyo segment was an attempt to better capture the Japanese market (which didn't work - but hey, we got the real-life Chao Garden out of it lol)
3.) because if you think about it for more than a second, "if Gerard could just hack to get Shadow out, why didn't he just bring down the defenses and steal the second launch card the first time, instead of having to go back?". There's at least some deniability in two separate places having two different modes of security.
4.) repeating locations in a single movie tends to make the movie feel "smaller", or cheaper.

I'm more inclined to believe they just wanted to shoot somewhere fun, since the Tokyo sequence was very short compared to the overall film. Increasing appeal to the Japanese market would probably require a bit more work than that :p

I assumed there was no novelization for Sonic 3 and I had heard absolutely zero about it but I guess I assumed wrong because I was browsing Google Play books and saw it listed and it said it released the same day as the film.

I think I remember people were saying the second one was more straightforward than the first which went its own direction in areas like specifying the energy was "Chaos Energy" but I'm curious if 3 has more differences due to how 3 was not a finished script ever.

Edit: apparently the book is even less finished lol how did they get away with this Screenshot_20250409-210239-133.png

What a weird way to do a novelization. I wasn't even aware that 1 had a novelization.

Some months back I watched that third movie. Purely because my family wanted to see it and I was curious what their reaction would be to a VERSION of Shadow’s story, seeing as most did not really know Sonic had those kinds of stories.

I have not seen any reason to rewatch that movie since, as I did not like it. In fact, at this point, I am so past caring that I didn’t even bother putting effort into trying to understand in my head why and what exactly about the movie rubbed me the wrong way.

That would involve watching the movie again with my brain turned on higher…

…which I already said I have no interest in doing.

However, there is something I think about every now and then that’s kind of funny. A short meaningless quip between Shadow and Sonic. Concerning his whole “Gotta go fast!” lines.

    “You have a catch phrase?”
    “Yep, and everybody loves it!”

I can’t help but love that line if it is what I think it is: A jab against more hardcore Sonic fans who know Sonic has never said this, would never say this, and actually hate that him saying this is a thing now because of how stupid it is…

    …fans such as myself.

If that is that, I would love that. Almost like the teen titans go in-show response to it’s criticisms, always represented as coming from jaded, cynical losers who care too much about these things (again, such as myself.)

I am not saying they SHOULD do more stuff like that. I think focusing on that is against the general spirit of what they’re trying to do. But I will say I’d probably like the movies more.

It's definitely a lot to process when you do try to figure it out. I blame the script mainly, but overall it's got a real direct to DVD comedy movie sequel quality to it you can't shake. (Which it pretty much is, a big part of why they're making these is definitely for streaming fodder)

Even when I tried to put it back on for its Paramount+ release, I quit pretty much exactly halfway through, when they were back at the Wakowski house planning to break into the GUN headquarters, because that whole scene can't stop itself from trying to make a joke every 10 seconds before it devolves into exposition about why they aren't just using the master emerald with an awkward line about "doing the right thing" tacked on at the end. The scene directly after It has the horrendously acted Keanu Reeves Shadow whine about not being able to break in himself like he's clearly able to and take his revenge with the energy of a child wanting a McDonald's™ Happy Meal™, and then Gerald talking down to him with similar energy of a dad that's somehow both not giving that child what they want but still somehow spoiling and enabling them. And, of course, the stupid Revenge Guac line.
It all just hits the ear wrong.

It's absolutely meant to be a gag and your interpretation of it is was close to mine, except I perceived it as a wink and nod to the smart fans in the audience about how damn annoying that Sonic X theme was.

I would like to point out that your interpretation (in my opinion) is missing a bit of movie Sonic's characterization and substituting the game character's. Movie Sonic had to grow up quickly when he had to run away, and spent the most significant and formative years of his life (so far) in a cave, hiding from people, but imitating them as well as watching TV and movies. Because he never knew anything else, he's a pop-culture obsessed little goofball who's a bit more like a puppy.

Anyway, in the exchange with Shadow, the point of the humor was aside from the wink and nod on "Gotta Go Fast" was that we the audience have never seen him use it as a catchphrase or in front of anyone, actually. He said it once to himself and he may think of it as a catchphrase, but that's what's supposed to make it silly and funny. Movie Sonic who is just now learning how to live in society and interact with real people on a sustained basis (the entire point of the first movie) is a silly Cloudcuckoolander who would believe that everyone loves his made-up catchphrase that he's never told anyone. Because he's a silly goose.

Iiiiii did not consider that a jab at all, and I say that as someone who was never a fan of Sonic X. "Gotta go fast" is like the one thing people remember about that show at all, and it's an inherently silly turn of phrase. IMO it's not that deep.

Hehe. I chuckled at the Revenge Guac line. But hey, I'm someone who actually found the Baldy Nosehair stuff in Colors funny, so I guess my sense of humor is skewed. :vv:

I also chuckled at the Gotta Go Fast bit too.

"Gotta go fast" has long since transcended being an X reference. It's entirely the Sanic meme being reclaimed by SEGA (/Paramount in this case) because it's popular.
