Sonic the Hedgehog Cinematic Universe Thread (& Knuckles)

He was also in Cats. This is a new level of slumming it.

 

Good thing that verb means exactly what you imply it isn't.

 

What kind of accent do y'all suppose Idris Elba will use as Knuckles? He's a talented actor, he's done an American accent for The Wire, and obviously his natural accent is English, and I've also heard speculation he might use an African accent (his dad is from Sierra Leone).

What kind of voice would you prefer he use, or what do you predict?

I’d love to hear his natural accent. I think it’d work pretty well for Knuckles.

 

I agree. Idris Elba's natural speaking voice works really well for Knuckles, imo. But I honestly see myself being happy with whatever choice he ends up making for the character. I can't wait for a trailer!

 

It's gonna be real funny if, despite everything, this movie ends up being the bad one.

 

That would be so utterly bizarre. The first one, much as I was dreading it, was good, so if the one I'm excited for is bad...I dunno.

 

I mean, we'll see, but I don't see that happening. Not only is it going to be better, my bet is it's going to be significantly better. The budget is higher, the creative team is right for the job, the casting is spot on, and what we know of the plot indicates they've got all the right pieces in place.

Take it to the bank, this sequel will surpass the original.

 

I also was hoping for the Rock as Knuckles, but Idris Elba could be good

 

Honestly I'm expecting Sonic Movie 2 to be way better than the first and I wasn't even a big fan of the first one.

With the sequel I expect them to approach it with a different mindset. I expect it to feel less like a generic kids film and more "Sonic" if that even makes any sense.

 

The first one had to be sort of safe and kiddie to really sell the idea of a Sonic movie to the general audience. I’m hoping this movie ends up being what we as Sonic fans would’ve wanted the first movie to be, and from how it appears to be shaping up, I think there’s good reason to be excited.

 

I think it's really interesting that the sequel is happening this soon.

I think a lot of people were expecting the first film to be a box office flop, but then it did the exact opposite of that and a sequel was greenlit almost immediately after release. I guess they wanted to strike while the iron's hot.

 

My prediction based on absolutely nothing: Sonic fans will like the movie a lot more than the first, but others will like it less.

 

I think this will only happen if it leans a bit too hard into being a video game film. The first film got by as mentioned because it was more or less a generic kids film with Sonic attached to it.

I see one of two scenarios with this film:

1) Its more or less a retread of the first, but loosely adapting Sonic 2 and 3. Will likely not be as popular as the first, but will do well enough with the general audience while game fans will not care as usual (or lash out in the worst case scenario)

2) Leans way more into the Sonic parts of the setting and moving away from what the first film established and expanding on the universe lore; game fans are happy but it does significantly worse in the box office.
