I love how Shadow Generations and this film seem to be polar opposites in their portrayal of Prof. Gerald:
+ - Aside from the journal entries, Shadow Generations completely ignores Gerald's eventual madness and villainous revenge plan, instead focusing on his more benevolent side from prior to Maria's death, and as a father figure to Shadow himself. The new movie, meanwhile, seems like it's going to make madness and villainy his entire personality - albeit with the madness reframed as Jim Carrey style fruit-loopy craziness, as opposed to the source material's more nihilistic approach.  

 

Also an extremely dumb line lmao

Shadow Generations Dark Beginnings Episode 1, which is included in the PS5 version of Shadow Gens (and will probably come to the other versions eventually) shows a little bit of insane, murderous Gerald Robotnik too.

 

Wow. That was honestly kind of more than I was expecting from this movie... Corny one-liners aside.

And I was already looking forward to it. Looks hype to me.

 

Oh yeah it was kind of skimmed over but Eggman said "Come on grand daddy-o" so that puts to rest any potential confusion that Gerald is suddenly Robotnik's dad.

Also the Sonic movie Twitter revealed a new exclusive poster for those attending a December 19th screening

 

Out of all their goofy, lame attempts at humor through irony and comic relief, I will admit that Sonic’s comment on the moon’s destruction actually did get a chuckle out of me.

That’s uncommon for these films.

However, I felt literally nothing during the rest of that trailer. I think the only real thing that could have generated excitement there was the fanservice. Unfortunately, it is fanservice about stuff I don’t personally care about. Like the chao garden, Shadow getting a gun, and the eclipse cannon showing up.

Don’t care about Tom and Maddie still…

…pretty weak trailer overall, honestly. The previous one was better at at least making the movie seem interesting.

Seems to be yet another movie that I don’t really have any desire to watch and probably will only get around to eventually because, for better or worse, I am a Sonic fan…

…rather than wanting to watch it because of any apparent quality of the movie itself.

Shadow has a gun, Moon getting wrecked and...Tails has a rocket attached to his arse.

 

Can't wait to Tails suddently drop a napalm bomb and beat the shit out of Shadow.

 

Great trailer. Loved the Pokémon joke. Very cute.

Sooooooo hyped for whenever Shadow joins Sonic and they go Super. Especially since it looks like they’re gonna be enemies for the majority of the movie. I’m a sucker for enemies changing sides for the greater good.

Still don’t know what to expect for the final battle but that makes it more fun.

Just a literal real gun that shoots bullets would've been more edgy in a funny way, but I'll take it.

 

I'm going to start with being a Debbie Downer but I've never been too much of a fan of the tech/mech designs of the movies, so not really digging the "Ark" design for this.

Since Sonic 1 it kind of reminds me more of healthcare tech more than military, or not really coming from someone with a huge ego like Eggman/Robotnik, especially Carrey's version. There's a disconnect there I think.

Seems they included the flower field scene from Dark Beginnings, that's nice. Makes me wonder if the movie team was included in the talks when streamlining Shadow's story for SxS Generations.

I am intrigued on how they're going to tweak SA2's story for this, just having Gerald there is a huge change and that really makes me want to see it to see what the deal is.

 

I'm guessing that the white, rounded look was there to justify the nickname "Eggman", given how Carrey was pretty slender in the first two films.

 

The "Robotnik Face" design is too iconic for me, personally, so I also don't love the ark design.
