Sonic the Hedgehog Cinematic Universe Thread (& Knuckles)

I said several times that wasn't the main point i was making, and I considered just editing it out until I remembered someone asked me not to do so as "it makes conversations hard to follow" so I thought I could just ask people, several times, to ignore that point but here we are.

I'm aware it's not what happened (now) and didn't edit it out the post because I didn't want to "make the converation hard to follow". Hope we can all move forward from here.

In other thoughts, man the movie looks so clean thus far. I wonder how many rendering tries it took until the 3d animators, environmentalist workers and lighting consultants stopped and said "Yep. That hedgehog looks soggy enough."
I've also been thinking about the locations that the Sonic adverts were projected onto, and am wondering if there have been supremely obvious hints we just glanced over. Are we able to look into the previous months and check on social media for Paramount film crew sightings?

The entirety of my post and the point I was trying to make is that a movie has to be exceptional to go from 400 million to a billion. I brought up the Eggman toilet joke because I wanted to use it as an example of why I felt the writing doesn't seem that substantially better than the first two which has Chilli dog fart jokes and an extended joke about a woman waxing her vagina for her wedding.

If I was wrong on that front, that's cool, I said several times to just ignore that point but it seemed to really bother people that I thought a movie franchise that's never shown itself to be above toilet humor, might have had toilet humor in its trailer.

But somehow the entirety of my point was either lost or deliberately ignored to focus on that point when it ultimately changes nothing else I said. I would have just edited it out because I didn't want to keep hearing about it but, I wss asked not to do so in the past, so I did not.

But i see where that got me so I will from this point forward.

Trailer looks damn good to me! Can't wait to see this in theaters.

 

I just had an epiphany about what they're doing with Shadow in this movie.

Since they call him an alien it can't be that he's an android created by Gerald.

I think what they're doing is this: it'll be that the US government found an alien from the same species as Sonic back in the 70s (so, 50 years ago, they'll connect this to the old UFO craze), kept him contained as an experiment using Maria to give him company and link to him, and Maria or Gerald tried to set him free so they had to be disappeared by the government and Shadow was freezed until he was set free somehow by the emerald's power or by Agent Stone or whatever.

I guess they're skipping the part from SA2 and X where they mistake Shadow for Sonic and get him arresred?

 

Okay so I haven't seen the movies in a bit.

But I was actually thinking, you know how in the first movie the echidnas seem to be after Sonic and is implied to be because of his power? Downright to one of them having a small net for him.

But then in Sonic 2 we learned that the main objective was Longclaw and the Master Emerald's location?

I always thought that was a weird change, so I was wondering if in this universe there is a relationship between Shadow and Sonic.

Maybe the echidnas were also after Sonic because they knew about Shadow's power? Maybe there was/is a hedgehog clan as well that they're both part of.

Or if they decide to use that mural fan theory thing and somehow Gerald uses that as inspiration to create Shadow?

We see Robotnik having a quill Sonic gives him. I was thinking they might be some time traveling shenanigans and somehow that quill is used to create Shadow in the past?

So basically he's still an alien because of Sonic, but instead of having Black Arms DNA he has Blue Arms DNA this time.

Finally watched the trailer. Thematically it is the closest its felt to an actual Modern Sonic movie without the extra Movie fluff popping up (though 'Donut Lord' I do not mind) but I still saw a lot of Sonic Movie-isms that were hoping would be toned down this time.

I'm not usually a fan when they throw in jokes just to have them fill air. For example, the first episode of the Knuckles series, the fight scene is drawn out with a dozens jokes thrown into the edit to fill space. However I thought that the jokes, at least here, were better here for the most part. Even if they are too present for my liking. I even liked the Donut Lord and Sonic interaction in the opening, made me amused.

Keanu sounds fine enough! Forgot it was him until I returned here after watching it. His delivery of "You're a colorful bunch" during that first encounter was very funny to me.

Gerald being another goofy Jim Carey however, is so shocking. Not a great choice to me, but I get it you have to keep it light. But someone here mentioned, and I agree, that two crazy Jim's don't really make good material to bounce off each other. Feels like their characters lack contrast. But we shall see!

Otherwise, the rest of the trailer generally looked quite good! Shows a lot of focus on the core trio which is great. Seeing Maria die, however they will present it, will be interesting I'm sure. I expect it'll be something more of an "unpreventable accident". Because the death scene (at least what I am guessing is for now) in the trailer seems too bombastic to be merely shot like in the games.

Hearing two whole recognizable themes in the trailer makes me hopefully the soundtrack will be tied closer to the score of SA2, would be easier to license I'm sure. Yeah, I give the trailer a solid B+!

 

The Sonic Lore Manager implies Shadow is twisting Knuckles' dick.

 

Sonic wasn't ever regarded to get anything past 100M box office anyway or even being remotely successful movie franchise and yet it did, so it's a moot point

and again continuing to argue the movies are specifically made for children while claiming Minions are for children and adults alike based on....grandmas posting Minions memes on facebook is laughable, how many moms and grandmas actually went to the movies? anyone can post any meme, doesn't even have to know it's source.

LOL no , like one of the major criticism for MCU stuff is that they have humor in the wrong place all the time, that they undermine a lot of serious scenes for cheep attempt at humor and are afraid to commit to take any serious scene seriously

So I saw the trailer yesterday, and enjoyed it. But it got me thinking..

..how much of the Knuckles show is going to factor in this movie. Like, is Wade or even his family gonna have a couple of scenes (which I'm fine with, I actually enjoyed his character and fun dynamic with Knuckles in the show).

Like maybe while Tom is out doing his role in the plot he'd ask Wade to cover for him back in Green Hills, with Wade, now having the confidence and such from his character development in said show, accepting the role easily. Or something like that.

I just want to know that the Knuckles show contributed to the 3rd movie in a satisfying way, other than the final episode IIRC mentioning the fact that an alien crashed onto Earth about 50 years ago, which is supposed to be Shadow.

 

...have amy be silver's sister so we get all the comedic "overprotective big brother" stuff, I can see that.

 

I agree with everyone else saying that they see no obvious route for the movies to go after the third, especially in terms of adapting the games. A Shadow spin-off seems virtually inevitable, though the story that it could take is totally up in the air. I don't really see them jumping at the chance to adapt ShTH and 06, however loosely.

None of the remaining characters seem have the obvious pull of Tails, Knuckles and Shadow in terms of rounding out the main cast. Yes, Amy is still absent but realistically what can she add? She would be included for inclusions sake. The only other character who's relevant enough to actually mean something is Metal Sonic. But the second movie was already about a rival to Sonic and the third movie is that as well. Is there really any room for Metal?

I dunno. I almost want the third movie to be the end of the series. The avenues for expansion are limited. Can't imagine that anyone is clamouring for any movies that focus on original content and pull even less from the games.
