They didn't just mention Iblis. Knuckles beat his ass according to the musical.

    My guess:
The Ark is in the movie, but it's not a space lab where Shadow was studied... it's an Ark like Noah's Ark. Something was designed or destined to destroy the world, and the Ark was made to save some people from it. Shadow's trying to set it off.

Or it's Shadow's spaceship he came to Earth in initially... it is black and red, just like him.

    I prefer the former.

  4. I feel like this only works after Shadow has already turned over a new leaf, so essentially a sequel. Otherwise, Metal would probably be like Mecha Godzilla, a last minute final boss that forces the rivals to work together.

And I do agree that having ''another'' speedy rival to Sonic after Shadow would feel a little overkill. Even this movie has to play around with its source material to not make Shadow a retread of Knuckles.

They don't namedrop Iblis (they call him a demon) but the short of it is, giant owls killed Knuckles' dad, so he has to find the Flames of Disaster to avenge him. On his quest he comes across the demon, but while fighting him realizes that the real Flames of Disaster were inside him all along, and then Wade gets to be the first human to use a Sonic character's power through his own inner strength.

I love this shit though, singing along to it again now.

Something fun, movie-style Crabmeat designs were already shown in the Agent Stone story in the Pre-Quill comic. [IMG]

Although they're still pretty different from the giant one being used as a base. STH3-FF-020K_0.cmjpg.jpg

I...am of two minds about this.

On one hand, this basically makes it impossible to do the whole "Gerald sends the ARK crashing into Earth" plot and there's no way to fit a Biolizard encounter in there, but they're probably toning the scale down anyway so whatever.

On the other hand, I have always found it kinda weird that humanity in the like 1950's in the Sonic universe made an entire massive moon-sized space station (that apparently had, like, 30 people at best living in it and yet we've never seen a single actual housing section) and no one's ever like "how the hell did they do that" so scaling it down into more of a mobile research station and laboratory makes sense :V

I just think it's in the nature of the kind of character that Gerald is for the writers to raise the stakes, making him the best at everything compared to previous characters.

-Discovered the Mystic Ruins/Angel Island/Chaos before the events of Sonic 3/Adventure.
-Was already experimenting with Chaos Emeralds before the events of Sonic 1.
-Built a massive space station with an Earth-destroying laser before Eggman's Death Egg.
-Created a hedgehog with super speed that matches the hero of the story.

I do like his story, but I dislike some of these aspects because they create a weird feeling you're describing. It makes previous stories seem a bit less special and raises questions about how he accomplished all these feats generations before without being mentioned or having a significant impact until his introduction.

Ancient civilizations can be given a pass because you can argue the world had enough time to reset. But it doesn't quite click when these events occurred relatively close to current events.

So, maybe the filmmakers were considering this for the movie plus keeping things within budget?

I was also thinking they didn't want to invoke the Death Star imagery so they went with something smaller. Well, that is if it does turn out to be the Ark.

    Also...

The trailer views are insane. Roughly 10 million combined between 3 official youtube accounts already in roughly 13 hours, and that's not even counting views on other platforms.

I don't care how Sonic 1 and 2 did in the box office. Those were pandemic era films (with the first being a bit unproven and hitting just as people started worrying about crowds)...

I unironically think this thing could crack a box office billion if it doesn't suck. Mario did far more, and may be competition, but its reputation will probably help boost interest in game related block busters too.

No movie in Hollywood history has gone from a 400 million dollar installment to a billion dollar installment.

Sonic 2 came out after Spider-Man No Way Home got people back into theatre's too, to the tune of 1.9 billion, so it was NOT a covid era film. Covid era film would be if it had come out summer 2021 and made that much money. Then we could talk about covid stunting it's run.

A movie like this making 600 million is still a huge win and everyone should remember that a movie franchise that has each movie do better than the last is rare in Hollywood and worth celebrating.

Oh my God, that trailer was so good, and Shadow looks so good.

I think Keanu is perfect for Shadow.

Whoops I've been mistaken. Okay if Sonic 3 is The Dark Knight quality then it can be the second exception to the rule. But I somehow doubt that will be the case.

  15. Anyone else find it comical how after marketing heavily featuring her as part of the main cast in the last couple of years, Amy just straight up isn't in this movie for whatever reason?

I don't think Amy would add anything to the cast in this universe.

Amy barely added anything to SA2's plot as well, to be fair. If you need a girl to remind Shadow and Gerald of Maria, they could just use Jojo.

Yes, I was thinking the same thing!

And I, unfortunately, think this is the case as well. They'd have to justify her getting to earth, then give her some sort of plot relevance.

Only way I can see it working is that they go FULL Fortune Teller with her. She sees Sonic in a Crystal Ball or something, does a Fortune Reading and gets a vision of Silver or Blaze or Iblis/Mephiles or Dark Gaia hurting Sonic, so she comes to earth to warn him.

But then... what does she do for the rest of the story? Fall in love with Sonic and hit things with a hammer? Maybe that's enough, but IDK...

I'd LIKE to see her in the movies, but at this point I'm not holding my breath. SA2 is a great story for her to be relevant in and go through a character arc, and they're seemingly not going that route, so to me it kinda feels like Amy missed the boat.

It is sad one of her defining character moments keeps on being given to other characters, but I agree with this as well.

I keep seeing people saying Gerald is Robotnik's father in this, but if we are going by the trailer, he's calling Gerald Pop Pop, which is a common name for Grandpa

No Amy could work fine in an SA2 movie but the apparent lack of Rouge comes off pretty forced. I hope they're still just hiding her but you'd think they'd drop that right about now.
