Sonic the Hedgehog Cinematic Universe Thread (& Knuckles)

My understanding is that in real-life new Military Organizations are typically spun off of old ones for starters. If I'm remembering correctly, the US Space Force is mostly made up of former US Air Force people. (I know it's controversial, I'm not talking about that, it's just a relevant recent-ish high-profile example, thank you.)

So I'm gonna have to assume that General Oliver Garden was in the Marines or something and was put in-charge of the newly-formed GUN due to having relevant experience.

So Project Shadow was potentially overseen by whatever military organization he was a part of before, and he is therefore privvy to the details due to holding a high rank.

This is my understanding of how these things work. Anyone who knows more about this than I, feel free to correct me.

 

If it ends with Shadow joining GUN I hope the commander invites him to dinner and to meet his granddaughter, like I truly imagined it from that one throwaway line in Shadow's Expert Mode, but the dinner is finally the Olive Garden Never Ending Pasta Bowl payoff, and the whole cast is jammin' there with infinite breadsticks while James Marsden looks at the camera for his final line: "When you're here, you're family." Boom. Full circle, or should I say loop. Trilogy over.

 

I'm very concerned they're not going to treat GUN like the corrupt, President-puppeteering organization they are, and it's going to become full-on copaganda.

They've portrayed the government and GUN as largely incompetent in catching Sonic or stopping Robtonik in the movies, not sure what part of that comes off as copaganda but alright.

 

Yeah like they literally jail him and he has to jump off a helicopter after he calls out their bullshit, what part of that screams "copaganda" LMAO
How are they going to change that part if the most iconic opening in a Sonic game is him literally evading the police after being falsely accused??

yeah GUN is the antagonist for all of SA2. they're not explicitly chasing Sonic after a certain point but it's still their robots and experiments you're blowing up on the ARK as all characters.

and yeah, the military is portrayed as hiring lunatics (Eggman), being stingy (an olive garden gift card for their contractor trashing a dude's house??), or being able to be trashed by an angry woman in a golfcart. Also, Stone is shown to have infiltrated the org at the end of 2. It wouldn't surprise me if they're B-side more useless villains to Eggman's harder-hitting A-side.

 

Paramount's CineEurope presentation happened today and they showed off some Sonic 3 footage.
Now was it new footage? Couldn't tell you. All the rags just have a single line mentioning it was an exclusive sneak peek. The focus is entirely on Gladiator 2.

 

This article is so nonchalant about it. Basically "Sonic 3 was there, it showed Shadow, whatever I guess, hey look Gladiator 2 now that's what people are here for!!!"

If July is the target month, then my best guess is Paramount are looking to have it attached onto Despicable Me 4. I'll start sniffing on Wednesday. That's usually when most locations have their trailmixes for the week.

EDIT: Checked on Monday. No signs of a trailer.

 

Some Sonic 3 merch has been found and has a look at a plastic version of Shadow.

Instead of Jim Carry Robotnik being called Robotnik like the previous line, he's now Ivo Robotnik specificially... so are Maria and Gerald figures possible and this is just to better distinguish the items? That'd be fun.

Hopefully this means we're looking at a trailer soon. Maybe around the Anime Expo panel just to get a tiny bit of synergy?

Also looks like Knuckles is getting a physical release. With an exclusive gag reel!

 

Sad to see that Rouge is nowhere to be found so far. Did they confirm that she's not in the movie?

 

If you’re referring to the new merch pic showing Shadow and no other new characters:

…I wouldn’t make too much of that as Knuckles is also excluded from this box and we know he’ll be in Sonic 3.*

Just noticed: you can select Sonic, Tails and Knuckles avatars in Paramount+. Under the name The World of Sonic the Hedgehog. I think this is what they're calling it.

This could be ur first overview of Shadow's design "entirely" yet.

 

Yeah the reuse of the Knuckles render from older material makes me feel that this is fake. Not to mention why would they just show the Knuckles side and then leave the Shadow side slightly obscured when Shadow's obviously the huge selling point of the movie. Not buyin this one.
