Sonic the Hedgehog Cinematic Universe Thread (& Knuckles)

Discussion in 'General Sonic Discussion' started by Dark Sonic, May 28, 2020.

  1. I have a feeling the Cinemacon trailer will be a lost media thing just like the 2019 trailer from Sonic 1, cuz I'm 99% sure the public trailer will be different.

And in the background there's a banner for Sonic 3

Note that that Shadow render is actually NOT a screenshot from Sonic 2, as the Sonic 2 version is more zoomed in showing only Shadow's eyes. It's probably a recap scene in Sonic 3, similar to Tails' introduction in Sonic 2. So this is our first look at Sonic 3.

That's just a painting that they did to extend the ending frame from S2

You know, people have been debating how they'll handle Maria getting shot, but after thinking about it...SA2 doesn't really show her getting shot. They're running down a hallway, and then there's a fade to white with a gunshot sound...and we just see Maria hunched over a control panel. And she never falls over dead, she's just weak, and there's not even a wound. It's really not graphic at all, all things considered.

It's a lot easier to hide these sorts of wounds in animation, be it CG or traditional. In live action, if someone has a gunshot wound they're slowly dying from, there's no way to (pardon the pun) shoot around it.

One thing that I noticed is that Paramount is pushing "Gerald" as Ivo/Eggman's middle name in their marketing on social media.
As far as I understood that came from the first movie's novelization.
Frankly I hope they don't do in in the movie itself, there's already way too much confusion on who's who from people that aren't too attached to the franchise.

There's no reason to believe that it'll be gory or overt. SA2 had no guns, no soldiers, and no death on screen and we still knew what happened. They could easily do that in the movie and it would be perfectly suitable for kids. It's just simple story telling like we've seen in many G-rated Disney classics. Obviously there's a difference between animation and live action, but kid-friendly movies with characters that clearly died is not a new concept.

  10. They can do a similar thing Sonic X did. They obviously doesn't need to show her literally getting shooted. It just needs to be clear enogh to us it happened (?).

We really need to hear a gunshot sound tho'.

Not sure about you guys but I'm pretty tired of the constant barrage of hack "news" sites reporting that we "just got our first look at Sonic 3," but it's clearly just somebody passing around the banner from that con again, which was confirmed almost two weeks ago to just be expanded art from the second film. Journalism blows now, at this point I don't believe anything in any sort of headline or YouTube thumbnail or whatever, without coming here first to see if people who actually know what they're talking about, and aren't just fishing for clicks, are discussing it.

I just check Deadline. They're pretty reliable. I know because I end up finding out news about my company from them before we ever get an internal notice.

    I've finally seen both movies.

The first movie was... really average. Not bad, but I wouldn't call it good either. It also felt cut short.

It had its moments, mind you. Like Sonic's talk after he runs to the ocean and back. Or the elevator scene near the end that implies he's a kid in a bag who recently was in a dog cage. Cue the other people backing away slowly.

Sonic's character was mostly on point, but I did think he was exaggerated at times. As for Robotnik, he really stole the show.

The second movie is much better in my opinion. It's a bit longer, more stuff happens, and it's better paced. Tails and Knuckles are on point.

    The backstory raises questions.

In the first movie, Sonic was sent to Earth because they were after his power. This movie retcons it to the Echidna tribe being after Longclaw for the Master Emerald. And somehow that means that Knuckles is the last Echidna? How?

Sonic is tasked with protecting the Master Emerald, to prevent it from getting into the wrong hands, which I assume means preventing the Echidna tribe from getting it back. Yet it's not a problem when Knuckles gets it in the end. Is that because his tribe is gone?

Why does the Master Emerald turn to dust when Sonic gets it, only to separate into the Chaos Emeralds which grant him his transformation? Why can Knuckles so easily reassemble the Master Emerald?

GUN as an organisation was newly formed after Sonic was detected, yet they had a top secret project 50 years ago. Curious how they're going to explain that they made a hedgehog, if they do at all.

getting my daily allowance of vitamin kk
I can tackle a few of these I think

The assumption is that the whole tribe went to take out Longclaw but she managed to take them with her. On a meta moviemaking level That whole bit is a little rushed since originally Longclaw was meant to go to earth with an even more helpless baby Sonic (and die there in his "teens") and even more originally the pursuers weren't echidnas, but they turned them from Lizards they used to be because they had lost their original purpose in the plot and so it was suggested they be Echidnas anyways just to get more Sonic concepts in.
They then wanted to do Knuckles, so... That's about the best option you have to take care of that without implying he ISN'T the last.

By the end of Sonic 2, Sonic and Knuckles have teamed up by circumstance. Knuckles just wanted the Master Emerald to guard over, All Sonic really wanted to do was stop Robotnik who was after it, and even though they don't really have time to talk it out by the end it's kind of automatically understood that the conflict was stupid and they both want the same thing in effect, to prevent bad people from doing bad things with the stone. Although the Master Emerald at this point is more representative of Knuckles' overall journey, so it's not a problem for them to share responsibility especially since Knuckles isn't tied down to Angel Island.

Tl;dr on that one, the Longclaw message was probably more like "I know I said they were after you but also here's this other thing to watch out for"

The reason the master emerald shattered is because it was the combination of the master emerald and the chaos emeralds, another thing done to keep consistency with the Sonic games without committing to a multi-emerald hunt in the first place. And again, it's more representative of Knuckles' life goal to have the big Green Emerald even if it's not as big and powerful as it was before. And he can put it back together because he researched everything he could looking for it and he can do it in the games.

Anything regarding Shadow, your guess is as good as mine because they're definitely not on the same wavelength as me regarding that. Maybe the trailer for 3 will give something to chew on. But for now GUN is basically the rebranding of a shadow ops group that's probably existed for quite a while.

Show expands on it just a little bit more.

But there's enough info between both movies to know both clans wiped each other out in a final conflict.

  20. Oh yeah, I forgot to sent this, but on VGC interview, it was mentioned apparently Takashi Izuka have kinda supervised Sonic 3:
So it seens he's involved with the movie in some sort.

    Edit: Also this:
