Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II Prototypes Found with Unused Ending

From what I remember reading from impressions, they are better than in Sonic 4 but they still got problems, which is probably best exemplified by trying to reproduce specific physics quirks in the cloned level layouts from the original games. In particular, there's a big halfpipe in Casino Night Act 1, where in Sonic 2 you should be able to eventually coast yourself back up to the top simply by rolling. In Gens 3DS you can't walk up slopes like in Sonic 4, but rolling isn't good enough to bring you back up to the top like you would in Sonic 2.

Gens 3DS in itself is also overall really inconsequential as a game/product in itself and in regards to Sonic 4/Episode II's development (which had an "all-new" physics engine that for whatever reason is completely absent with Super Sonic), so I'm hard-pressed to really highlight it as a genuine curio in that regard.

 

Not to mention how they can just make it a prequel and still call it Sonic 5.

Hell, outside of Japan, Akumajou Densetsu (the prequel to Castlevania) and Akumajou Dracula 1991 (the remake of Castlevania) were named Castlevania 3 and 4 respectively.

 

Episode 1 sucked but 2 wasn't too bad. I wanted a Episode 3 and seeing this unused cutscene just reminded me of that. Oh well at least we got Mania in the end!

 

So that means Frontiers is, what, Sonic the hedgehog 21? Or I guess 22, if we're going by Yoshi's Island rules and calling Shadow's game "Sonic 7"?

 

The real Sonic 4 is Sonic 3K.

 

You kidding? Sonic 3K is just the completed and full version of Sonic 3, which was only split because of a McDonald’s promo of all things.

Though, technically, the Sonic & Knuckles branch of the source code was internally referred to as the fourth game.

 

Boy, it sure is 2010 around here.

 

What I meant is Sonic CD is the real Sonic 2, thus Sonic 2 is the real Sonic 3, thus Sonic 3K is the real Sonic 4.

 

At this point, let’s just call Sonic games by year now: Main Sonic Title 2022 (Frontiers)

Really just emphasized their lack of ambition imo. Couldn't be any more than the Sonic game for 2017 to them.

 

...It was just a code name so we'd know there was a game coming that year. Internally it was Sonic Wars. Most of the time we didn't even get that for a new Sonic game.

 

It's a name that has an established history with the franchise, referring to the plan to make the brand popular in Japan in the Saturn era that ended up in Sonic Adventure. If anything it's one of the best public codenames they've had, a statement of "we're bringing back the attitude we had when we did Sonic Adventure and Sonic Jam".

 

Imagine if the logo reveal teaser trailer will have an epic orchestral version of Splash Hill Act 1

 

Hopefully they’ll pony up for the finest orchestra available
