Ya that final Fang fight is no joke.

I find it ironic that in Triple Trouble Fang was kind of a joke, and pretty incompetent. In this he has some of the hardest fights in the whole game and is very much a threat. Like I’ve played Classic Sonic for almost 30 years. This game feels like a classic Sonic game, so I can’t blame the controls. But it’s just a tough, tough fight and it’s very unforgiving. The Fang fight will prob go up there as one of the hardest… idk damn hardest boss fight in any game I’ve played, cant think of a harder one right now anyway.

Fwiw the actual last boss is no where near as hard. Hardest part of that boss is ring conservation, as most classic super bosses. Only difference is this fight can take over 10 minutes so it’s a lot of ring conservation. That being said it took me 3 or 4 tries as opposed to 2 hours of Fang.

This poor soul on twitch is still fighting fang.

Edit 2: they gave up :V

So for anyone wondering, the 24 hours of playtime Famitsu was talking about were just dying to Fang's cork gun + spider web over and over.

Closing in on 6 hours of that on the stream, yeah, so not even a joke.
Edit: and he just gave up.

I’ve seen this guy fight Fang since this morning at work. He’s been going 12 full hours! He just called it quits.

I still think that boss is easier and a better designed challenge than the Frontiers DLC 3 Boss Rush.

We'll see if I eat my own words next week.

Hey Sega/Arzest I think it’s ok if you nerf this boss a bit. I don’t think anyone would blame you lol

As for comparing this fight to the frontiers dlc fights, there’s some pros and cons. There’s no time limit, ring drain or otherwise. No perfect parry timing. But there is still some intense timing, like yes you can escape Fangs web but it’s not easy, the gun fires very fast too. And then there are the bitch slap of death rules which just always suck.

One thing I noticed about that streamer is that they hardly, if ever, spindashed. Would have made baiting the webs so much easier. Is the spindash THAT much nerfed in this game?

I think instant-kill attacks in a Sonic game for something that is not super telegraphed as a "get out of here the whole place is gonna blow" sorta deal is still absolutely bullshit. I shouldn't see Fang's giant robot one-shooting a player with a ring with super fast projectile attacks and forcing the entire fight to restart from it.

I will. I don't want to be forever labeled as not having the Day -1 Badge. I need the gamer cred.

Spin dashing in those segments is actually unwise. Either you let go and he shoots the web right in front of you and you don’t have the time to react and you get caught, or the webs are spaced too far apart (sometimes there can be up to 12 webs out at a time) and that makes dodging the corks harder. It’s best to take the web segment slow and keep the webs contained in a tight area, then hold right or left while he’s shooting so he can’t hit you but you don’t circle back around and hit the web anyway (which might happen if you spin dash).

Spin dash functions exactly as one would expect (they even got the rev up/pitch increase effect right finally), just doesn’t work as well as you think in that situation.

Also figuring out how to utilize emerald powers in boss fights will help significantly, just in general. But like you can get more time escaping the webs/bullets with slow down for example, the extra moves the characters get can get some good snipes (btw Trips extra move is basically like a fire flower from Mario lol).

So no 12th zone is what you're saying correct?

I think they're saying there is a 12th zone, but it's just a true final boss level; in the same vein as The Doomsday in S3&K.

OMFG, CinemaTriggerMedia was down to one hit left, and Fang pulled a new move out of nowhere, busting the whole floor and instakilled. Back to square one.

Welp, that's it. Fang wins. He took over the classic timeline now.

I played the game up to zone 4. It confirmed the opinion on the game that I had after watching the streams, nothing changed.

The game is ok, can be fun at times, there are great moments (opa opa is one of them and can't wait to reach it), but the quality is overall pretty mid to low. It's not bad, but it's rough in a lot of aspects. For example, during that insect boss in Speed jungle Act 1, there's a room with spikes on the ground: the spikes are visually lower than the platform, but they still damage you if you walk at the edge, even if you don't fall. Those are little design errors, the game is filled with them.

The loop jump trick seems to be impossible due to how the loops are programmed... they work differently than in most other games, and if you try to do the trick, you will land on the flat terrain before entering the loop instead, losing all the momentum.

The comparisons with Advance 2's level design that someone has made are probably accurate, but not for the bottomless pits. I've got a similar feel while playing myself... the level design is very open and most of the challenges in the levels are based on reaction rather than precision platforming: that's a similar approach to the level design of Advance 2 indeed, with the difference that in Adv2 the levels are more linear, while here they are more like a sandbox of platforms... it has pros and cons: the level design feels less consistent and more random, though it feels less automated because there's more freedom to take a different route. Besides, there's the same philosophy of mindless rushing through the level and react to the challenges, even though the style is different. Talking of specific levels, The third zone (Sky Temple) is very reminiscent of Sky Canyon, not just visually, also design-wise (except that most of the bottomless pits are replaced with wind pits so that you can't die); the rollercoaster sections of Pinball Carnival Act 2 instantly reminded me of the open space rail sections of Egg Utopia, too; there's probably more even.
What I really miss from Advance 2 though is the freedom of movement, the wider range of options that the movesets offered... here the movements are much more limited (technically you can break the game with the fire power but it's so awkward and confusing that doesn't flow well regardless).

    I agree with this.

On a side note, I'm kinda glad that Fang became this fierce monster that everyone is scared of... it seems that he is classic Infinite for real after all lol.

An unused battle mode song found in the game files.

I'll give my opinion once I play the digital deluxe edition on the 17th. I do wish it wasn't $70 but now a days it's common.‍♀️

Fighting some random dragon just screams Classic Sonic doesn't it?

Lame as shit. And the music is instantly forgettable wank.

This soundtrack is a Beautiful Tragedy. The most inconsistent one ever. After 32 years, I NEVER want to hear that Sonic 1/2 snare ever again. KILL IT.

Those unused Sonic 4 Ep III songs are here, I can guarantee it. We know this dance now.

However……Bridge Island Act 2 and Golden Capital Act 2 are my absolute favorites. GC2 sounds like an early 80s TV intro and I am living for it!
