    Honestly huge W to Izuka.

Hope the same will go for the next 3D main Modern Sonic game.

I mean I will grant them that in Generations classic was basically the werehog mode, so I wouldn't have expected them to be quite so obsessed with fundamentals when it's not really what the game is about, and it was still quite enjoyable to play, but in a game where that's all that it's about, yeah, it definitely matters.

If I ever give S4E1 a pass (I would argue I don't but then again I did just adb it onto an mp3 player I picked up) it is entirely because of its lineage as a mobile phone game from like 2010 or so. I still think S4E2 is pretty lousy because it was built from the ground up and, aside from the team attacks, was a pretty mediocre experience at best.

Any other reasoning? I mean if Sega wanted to put him in the game or make a new Ristar game I’m sure they could.

If there really is enemies or things from Ristar in Superstars I don’t think it’s far fetched they’d make him a hidden or DLC character and give him some kind of story related reason for being there.

I’ve never seen the rabbit concept/Ristar connection substantiated tho (the similar gameplay and Ristar originally being a rabbit could be a coincidence). Then again I probably shouldn’t speak for Wildcat.[/QUOTE]
Weirdly the advance 2 Prima guide mentions the connection, attributed to naka though

I’ve seen a lot of secondary sources make the claim like that strategy guide does, but I’ve never found a quote from someone who worked on Ristar saying that they reused Ohshima’s idea. That said I haven’t looked particularly hard for developer sources on Ristar, so that quote may well be out there.

Thank you for sharing the excerpt from the strategy guide. Does the guide credit an author? Since the guide inaccurately cites Naka as the creator of Sonic and the rabbit character, I’m wondering if the author is doing some assuming here.

Ya there’s the fact Ristar was created from the rabbit concept but also that Superstars and Ristar look very similar in art style. Cute, bright, colorful.

Sure they play differently but if Ristar was included I don’t think there’d be any kind of issue when Knuckles can glide and climb walls. Grabbing stuff would just be Ristar’s individual ability.

Years ago someone pointed out to me the Werehog is basically Ristar in 3D. It totally is. Just thought I’d mention it.

  9. lol.

I wouldn't mind seeing Ristar in the game, it's been a while since Sega used a character who wasn't from Sonic in a while to my knowledge.

Also, speaking of rabbits (this is Superstars related don't worry), I wonder if we'll ever see Mach and the rest of Sonic's ill-fated band in the games someday. We got Vector in Chaotix, Mighty, and Ray came back in Sonic Mania, Fang's finally back, and Ohshima has returned to make Superstars, hell Splats is finally in a Sonic game (while technically it appeared in Mania, Superstars is the first time the original Splats is in a game), and Mach and Max appeared in a Tailstube in a what-if Sonic universe, so I wouldn't be surprised (and would be excited) if Ohshima-san manages to bring back one if not all of the characters he wanted for Sonic 1 in here in some way, shape or form, either on launch or later on as DLC if the game does well.

If not Ristar they should use his Bunny concept. Like Disney and Epic Mickey brought back Oswald.

The difference is, Oswald was a finalised and released character, whereas the rabbit design from Oshima wasn’t.

Afaik there isn't any direct quote from a real source, just speculation. There were numerous Ristar/Feel proto designs, but the design with the "pointy ears" that some people think is a "rabbit" actually still uses his hands to grab things, not his ears. Naka's Sonic Team didn't even work on Ristar, it only shares a few credits with some of Ohshima's Sonic Team that worked on CD. The rabbit thing is just a strange pervasive rumor that has circulated for a long time, it's entirely possible that they talked to Naka or looked at those early Sonic design documents and took his idea, but nearly the same concept made its way to Dynamite Headdy and Rayman so it's more than likely it could just be an original idea, a complete coincidence. I think people just tend to think that SEGA worked on both games, so it must've been the same people with access to the same resources.

Starting to wonder when the next time we'll see Superstars is. Idk what events are coming up, but I know there's a Nintendo Direct tomorrow with a teeny tiny chance they may show some Switch footage in action. We're not far out from the release of this game at all, so hopefully we'll get a proper idea of the release window soon. Everything pointed toward fall 2023 in the beginning, but then occasionally they throw in "holiday season". Sounds like November to me.

But they could give him a name and a different ability (if they didn’t want it to be the same as Ristar). He’s already designed. Not saying he’s in Superstars but nothing is stopping them from finalizing him whenever they want.

And nothing is stopping them from making Sonic 5000 lbs and bright red but that doesn’t mean it would ever happen

I would've been more surprised if it wasn't the case, to be honest.

I agree with this.. just because is that it implies that Knuckles got tricked twice in a row with the exact same scheme.
