Sonic Superstars: A New 2D Sonic Game (Fall 2023)

I'm glad the game did well because the team clearly tried and wanted to make something new. It's a perfectly fine game that can be fixed with obvious feedback (don't make ridiculous bosses). Its entirely possible the devs may double down in a sequel but the framework is good and sometimes time and repeated tries can make game foundations great.

 

Super Mario Wonder- 4 million copies sold in one month

Spider-Man 2 - 5 million copies sold in one month

Sonic Superstars- Has yet to cross a million even with a discount on Black Friday.

That's all I need to know about Superstars "success" and how worth the price general gamers feel it is. And again the guys who ran Sonic said they want it to compete with Mario so I'm allowed to say this.

Last thing I have to say on this subject because now it's time to play games I enjoy instead.

 

Superstars didn't get the attention of the general gaming audience. Let alone most people who bought frontiers.

And that's a good thing because it shows most gamers respect and love themselves enough to vote with their wallet and not support mediocrity.

 

On what grounds do we have reason to believe Superstars is selling poorly? Reviews could've gone better, but sales sure don't seem as dire.

If it's cleared a million why aren't there reports? Took me 10 seconds to get Spidey and Mario Wonders sale figures because the companies who made them put out quality games that sold well and quickly so they shared the sales figures asap.

It didn't clear a million and I'm proud of gamers for voting with their wallets.

 

Just a few pages ago Chimpo posted that based on the tracking we do have, it's most certainly cleared 1 million. We don't have direct stats because video game sales tracking is generally poor and Sega isn't as transparent about sales as Nintendo and Sony are, but the tracking we do have indicates that it definitely sold more than a million.

 

I don't believe guesses. I only go by official sales figures. So this changes nothing.

 

SEGA does Sales Reports eventually and we have good reason to believe it's not doing POORLY

Worth a shot, but wouldn't it make more sense for them to report sales AFTER the Holiday Season / in time for March 2023. They're riding off the success of the Holiday Deals, so odds are we're going to see the results of this. Or don't care, beats me. Just know it isn't because 'Gamers have Standards Now' because there's good reason for that to NOT be the case.

 

There's no use arguing with you when nothing changes the fact that spiderman 2 and mario wonder that came out the same week eclipsed Superstars in sales and reception.

To me that's a market acting correctly. High quality experiences crafted with love sell amazing and Superstars do as they do. Like I said I have nothing more to add.

 

If "gamers have standards and vote with their wallets," then why the hell was Pokemon: Bethesda Edition / Pokemon: Sonic 06 Edition the biggest launch of any console-exclusive game of all time?

Critic and user reviews have largely leaned positive. It's charted well. There's nothing to suggest the game is bombing.

 

You can save this screenshot if you want. My words won't change that I only take figures from official places. Nor will I take it back.

I'd rather play scarlet and violet as the only game for the rest of my life than ever touch superstars again and I'd say most people would agree going by sales so I'm the wrong person to quote about this.

 

Physics are not quite 100% accurate to the originals. This is most noticeable when spindash jumping, you retain a lot more of your speed in Superstars than in the other classics.

Jumping also feels a tiny bit heavier than the other games but I don't know if that's just placebo or not.

 

It took 8 months for SEGA to casually drop that that Mania sold over a million. It took a full month for SEGA to reveal Frontiers sold 2.5 million in a ttweet. We do have tracking and while they're not exact numbers, we absolutely have the data that the game did well enough. It's one thing to claim you want to wait for the official sales numbers, it's another to arrogantly claim that the market voted with their wallets and imply Superstars sold poorly.

 

Dude, you said "this was the last thing I'll say" and have been consistently shoving both feet in your mouth for every subsequent response. If you hate this game so much as to declare it still a shocking failure because it might have sold less than a million copies, then go do something else like you said you would. You're just making a fool of yourself right now.

 

They're the ones who kept quoting me. Multiple people at that. I merely responded to them.

Heads up: the Switch version of Superstars has completely sold out on Amazon, if you want a physical copy from there you'll either have to purchase a pricier used copy or get it for another platform.
