How much did Origins end up moving? Wondering how much of an effect word of mouth actually has on…rough titles.

The Japanese numbers are abysmal. There's no denying that. We have no PC numbers. If you really want to use Peak Players as a metric, they're not terrible based on the series history. There was not enough data to begin with to start claiming the game was a flop. I doubt they had an astronomical sales target for it either. The fact that they hired Arzest for it makes believe they didn't have a high production budget either. This game is doing fine. It doesn't need Wonder launch numbers.

Sonic is an evergreen franchise. Origins Plus and Superstars are going to have long tails. Should be more concerned about the other classic IP titles Sega released this year that seemed to fail at catching on at all, like Party Central.

SEGA doesn't split it by title in their reports. This is all we have to go off based on their Q2 (July to September) results posted on November 8th.

A 1.5m jump in Sonic series sales from Q1. That includes everything Sonic from that quarter (So no Superstars numbers).

We know that Origins is part of the 740k total sales from Q1 as they only released 2 titles that quarter. Sonic Origins Plus and Eternia Odyssey Collection.

Unfortunately there's no real clean way to split what is Origins, Frontiers and Eternia. I think it's safe to say most of the Sonic numbers are from Frontiers thanks to the anticipation and release of The Final Update.

  5. If Superstars can do the bare minimum of 1M units, it'll be fine.

Sonic isn't really a AAA franchise like the other heavy hitters, but it doesn't well enough given its position.

It was part of a buy 2 get 1 free sale last week too, but all the good games I wanted weren't apart of it, just Superstars.

And they're not apart of it this time either! STOP giving me coal!!!

  9. Finally, a good price.

Johnny's review, for those interested. Nothing too surprising, he liked the game a lot but hated the boss battles enough for it to be hit pretty hard.

  11. Sounds about right.

That pretty much echoes my feeling 100%. The levels are fun, I dig the emerald powers, and I like the visual presentation. It just hits all of the right beats for me when it comes to Classic Sonic. Until you get to the bosses, which just suck.

Yeah, nothing too surprising and I agree with most of his points. I liked how he brought up the camera view being too small as that's one of my personal biggest gripes with the game that I don't see mentioned too often, makes the level layouts more confusing then they are otherwise.

Matches my views pretty well, almost word for word. Though I'm just more salty because at least, unlike Sonic 4 Episodes I-II, they got a lot closer to getting it right before dropping the ball in a totally unexpected way.

And I'm not sure if anyone in Sonic Team will learn from the mistakes. They probably don't see them as mistakes at all, especially with the tacked on and janky on co-op mode.

I've not watched the video yet, but it sounds like a pretty typical sentiment regarding this game; it's overall decent, but fails to hit the high notes of the original Classics and/or Mania whilst also having some significantly weaker aspects.

I like Superstars. But I wanted- and even expected to love it. Fact is that it just falls short in too many areas. Tedious boss fights, an inconsistent soundtrack, rubbish presentation and story, a really bad pair of post-game episodes, bland level art, "by numbers" level layouts... I dunno. The list goes on.

Superstars is fine and I do like it. But it's definitely a disappointment.

I had the chance to play the co-op mode in Sonic Superstars with my friends. The cooperative mode is definely jank, but I honestly had a good fun of it.

We have still to play the whole game tho', but as for now, it was fun. The controls feels so good, man.

$35 is still too high for this imo

I would but Mania for $35 tbh, but I feel like anything about $25 for Superstars is too much, which I suppose brings subjectivity into the mix with the implication that price should correlate to quality rather than the resources put into a game but…man, Superstars really shouldn’t have debuted at $60, SEGA’s clearly found their winning strategy of preying on us lot who are suckered into being earlier adopters to keep up with the series anyway.

Superstars in the UK was up until now around £50-55 which is ridiculous: you can get Mario Wonder for £40! It's finally starting to get hit with black Friday deals of around £32 but I'm still not biting...yet.

I honestly think the high price point hasn't helped with sales to be honest (Only stayed in the top 10 UK charts launch week then fell off), it might start to pick up though once it's discounted.
