I'm gonna need to see undeniable proof that Nights isn't in. It seems a foolhardy move for Sega not to have him in this game. This is like having a Mario Party without Donkey Kong or something.

In any case, screw nights, I want RISTAR

What do they mean by burning their merchandise? Like burning their Saturn games and shit?

ugh who cares. nights never really made it past the saturn. the ps2 port was ok I guess. Sega doesn't care because nights was never a cash cow like sonic. In fact, I garuntee you the only reason sonic is even still around is because people mindlessly shovel cash over to sega so they can get their kids to stop crying for the newest polished turd from the land of the rising sun.

The problem here is sega's execs. They'll never be proactive because they don't have to be. The mascot days are done because the hardware is gone. Unless you can completely fire everyone who has a management position at Sega corporate and replace them with passionate gamers who somehow also have business acumen, you will never see the company from the 90's that you loved so much ever again. The guys who run the show now will continue to pull the floor out from every project prematurely so the company can get its cash flow injection immediately; continue to disregard their development teams, and force shitty gimmicks into projects simply because of the trend factor. It's a shame such a brilliant set of IP's belongs to a corporation that just generally sucks.

They drop the accent multiple times.)<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Someone was asking me earlier today if the sequel did much worse than just add a bunch of uninteresting story or if the gameplay was completely crippled. You seem to be suggesting the former. Can I put you down for that?

I mean, I never played it and I'm apprehensive as well.

I hardly enjoyed JoD at all. The platforming levels as Helen and Will were boring and slow, and the NiGHTS levels felt way too linear and goal driven. On top of that, NiGHTS's gameplay was ruined by Nintendo controllers' lack of analog freedom, so much so that I ordered an adapter to use my Dualshock 2 instead, and even that didn't improve it a whole lot. JoD then went towards my Mario Kart Wii purchase. One of the best decisions I've ever made.

Regardless, I do like NiGHTS as a character and would be a tad disappointed to not see him in ASR, but it's not like he was top priority for me in games like Sonic Riders or Superstars Tennis.

I get the feeling that JoD had all that terrible crap in it because Iizuka doesn't know any better. In his head, if a game is to have a story, it has to have pages of dialog to beat you over the head with, a character to tell you...

I should probably stop before I'm consumed by rage. JoD is the worst game I've bought since Super Bombad Racing.

2007 was a strange year for Sonic Team. Even stranger than usual, I mean. Secret Rings and NiGHTS Journey of Dreams were games that, for everything they got right, they got something horribly wrong. In the case of Journey of Dreams, they got the music and visual style pretty spot on. Shame the graphics themselves were so out-dated and the presentation was incredibly superficial. Good thing the regular 2.5D flying sections stayed somewhat the same... only you have to chase birds instead of collecting Ideya. Well at least they spiced things up with those addicting Octopaw missions... but not before you rescue some Nightopians and play some long boring platform stages as Will or Helen. Bellbridge makes up for everything though. Shame the MiNDSiGHT controls SUCKED.

A shame really, but that was Sonic Team USA's take on NiGHTS, an IP they had the privilege to work with before they inevitably got absorbed. I do entertain the thought of the new unified Sonic Team making a NiGHTS game, perhaps using the Hedgehog Engine, but that's for another topic.

You also have to take into account the executive meddling that killed the project as well. The plan was to make the game for the 360 and ps3 initially, and during production the sega execs came in and said "Port it to the wii. Now. We don't care how far along you are. Oh and now you only have a year to finish it". Its not as much as sonic team's fault as everyone makes it out to be. If they were allowed to, Sonic Team would probably make great games. But they are never given the time they need to actually finish a project. Yes, I'll agree that some decisions made by Iizuka are bad (the game needs voice acting and crappy, anime-esque writing. Oh and deciding to go to renderware was the worst idea in the history of sonic team. Iizuka should be punished for that.) But the technical aspects being so horrible are a result of rushed and mismanaged projects. Anyone remember sonic 06? yeah.

Do you know what they cut? They didn't cut out good stuff like Ideya captures or a more subtly explained plot, oh no, this is Iizuka we're talking about. They cut out a bunch of cut scenes and a set of racing missions versus Reala. The only worth while thing that didn't make was a little easter egg: When you find all the dream drops, you can switch to Claris and Elliot. They were planning on having NiGHTS revert to his old design as well [AVGN]WHICH IS THE ONLY ONE THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN THE GAME IN THE FIRST PLACE!!![/AVGN]

So the NiGHTS community is fucked up and NiGHTS is going to be in ASR, regardless of what DiGi and TRiPPY say. Okay.

So how about that Ryo, huh? :v:

They presumably have inside concats saying that he isn't, and it wouldn't be the first time. They knew about JoD before it was announced, they knew that Claris and Elliot were in the game even though Iizuka said they weren't, and knew of plans for NiGHTS on the PS360.

Did Nintendo fans do things like this for their favourite characters for any of the Smash Brothers game, or is it only Sega fans that go this far to prove a point? :psyduck:

Nah, not exactly. Nintendo fans were obsessed with the roster, but not in the same way; it was more about getting as many characters in the game as possible than it was about getting one particular character, safe for Sonic but that's a different story.

Note that I made it sound like Nintendo fans are much more civilized, but I'm going to change that with one word: Tourneyfags. Fuck 'em.

No, but there was that thing where a bunch of people were trying to get Nintendo to use Ryan Drummond for Sonic in Brawl. Wow, that was dumb.

And really, it would probably be JoD NiGHTS if they put in any NiGHTS at all, so I find myself being apathetic to this whole thing now... And is anyone going to fix that banner?

Those are different faggots. Don't mix them up assuming they're all the same group.

A lot of us just enjoyed the site updates more than the actual game.

Sometimes I wish it never came out.
