    Is it just me, or is the constant laser firing sound on the Death Egg track the most annoying thing ever? Maybe it's just my TV, but the sound is overpoweringly loud to the point that I don't want to play that stage with the audio on.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    In case anyone cares, I have an update on this. A few days after it happened, I went back on the game on a different TV and played the track in single player. (I was on split screen when it originally happened) This time, that annoying sound was almost never heard unless you were in the music select intro, or right up next to the lasers.

    Last night, I was playing it on split screen again, and the sound was back in full force. Curious, I went and stayed on the same TV, but tried a lap of it in single player. Suddenly, the sound went back to almost never heard. Looks like that for some reason, you can just always hear it in split screen. Maybe it's because of both players hearing it far away at once, or maybe the game glitches and thinks you're always near the laser for some reason. Either way, I'm not going back to that track in split screen unless a patch comes around.
    <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    It's probably because sounds play from both screens. The laser sound is heard more frequently, as a result.

The resulting files are valid files which can be played in your media player of choice.
    As for the xwma files, I found an xwma to wav converter on the internet, I even included it with one of the downloads. I didn't keep it though, and Rapidshare fucked up with my account so I don't know if it's there anymore. The link used to be this: <a href="http://rapidshare.com/files/359066202/ASR_Songs.rar" target="_blank">http://rapidshare.com/files/359066202/ASR_Songs.rar</a>. When it used to work, it contained all the songs in xwma format and the xwma to wav converter.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    Thanks for the program Nineko, it's downloading now. Does it convert wav to xwma? If not, don't worry about it, I can probably find one that does.

    Just making sure that I understand this right- you're taking chunks of code out of the xpac file, and making the code into its own file? I figured it would be like that... Is it akin to pasting the code into a notepad file and renaming it .xwma? If you could tell me a program I can use the view/edit the code, I'd be grateful.

    The xpac file doesn't contain code. It contains data. It literally contains a collection of audio files, stored one right after the other. It's easy to extract all those files by simply splitting the xpac files into pieces, as you don't need to understand how the xpac header works to do this. If you want to replace something, instead, you'll need to do some additional research, which I didn't bother to do, as it was outside from my goal.

  4. OK, can you please tell me what program I use to examine the data, and to split it?

    Any hex editor will be fine.

  6. Hi Nineko, I opened it up in Hex Editor Neo (seems like a good program), and here is what I got: <a href="http://j.imagehost.org/0828/hex.jpg" target="_blank">screenshot</a> (Just to make sure it's the correct view)

    From what I can make of it, the top part gives the location and length of each of the audio tracks down below, right?

    I see that it does that for the wav's. However, I can't seem to find the xwma's. There is information below the wav section that does refer to audio files, but makes no reference to a location. Sorry, but can you give me a tip on how to find the music tracks? Thanks!

    You have the split xwma songs in the archive file you downloaded from rapidshare. Just compare the data in those split files with the data in audio.xpac and you'll find the location of all the songs.

  8. I did it!!!! It was so easy. SInce the songs are like, 8 minutes long or whatever, and you'll only be racing about 1 minute per lap, there's no way to hear more than 3:30 of a song. So I just copied the the 4 minute song over it.

    I've actually replaced the built in Super Sonic Racing song with the original length one, that retains the solo, that goes "Don't you know, I really want to go, to a place, where you can feel my heart just raaaace" and then there's this cool instrumental solo that's basically the high point of the whole song. That was cut out in the game, but now it's in!!

    Next I'm going to replace all those crappy Jet Set Radio Future songs with good old Jet Grind Radio tracks. Maybe I'll be able to change the song names by hexing the main game file.

    Do you want me to upload the .xpac so you can test it out?

    Agreed, but he does have a point that the game needs more original JSR/JGR songs. Seems like only Future is represented at all in the game, which also goes for the music; Future had a great soundtrack, but I do believe that the original game had a better one.

  11. Well, to my ears, that recurrring voice sample in "Concept of Love" is the most annoying thing in the game. Was.

    Unfortunately, I can't change the way the tracks are written in the game, since all the text seems to be graphics. I wouldn't mind someone proving me wrong on that count.

    Here's some of the damage of done thus far:

    Palmtree Panic-> Super Sonic Dance Attack
    Can You Feel the Sunshine?-> Green Hill Zone (SA2 Mix. I recorded it myself through the Gamecube emulator. Had to edit out the skipping too. That was a fun hour. However, the track isn't really all that great...I'm open to other suggestions!)

    The Concept of Love-> Yellow Bream
    Sneakman remix-> Sneakman
    Funky Dealer-> Miller Ball Breakers
    Let Mom Sleep-> Up-set Attack
    Fly Like a Butterfly-> Electric Toothbrush

    Restoration of Terror-> Alice Cooper- Feed My Frankenstein
    Aura of Dread-> Kickin'devil - Candyman

    Metal Scratchin-> Marco D'arienzo - New Future
    What U Need-> Mr. Flagio- Take a Chance

    Bum Bum-> Magazine 60- Don Quichotte
    Vamos a Carnaval-> Tony Esposito- Kalimba de Luna
    Mambo de Verano- Boney M- Felicidad

    Back 2 Back- The Bomb Feat. Sean Finn - Skynight
    Casino Park- Sonic CD- Stardust Speedway

    At a certain point I cared more about how well the stages and songs went together than if they came from Sega. Anyway, they kick ass. I'm not setting out to change them all...at least not Bingo Highway, Super Sonic Racing (though I did kinda of change it) or Samba de Janiero.

    Once I'm satisfied, I'll upload the chunky file for any interested parties who wanna get in on what I'm cookin up here.

    You should replace the Sonic Rush tracks with their superior OST versions.

    There's also the obligatory replacing of the Heroes Invincible for Super Sonic with the "Theme of Super Sonic" track from Sonic Adventure.

    Or Sonic 2, or 3 or whatever. Seriously, why choose the invincibility music of all things for Super Sonic? That always puzzled me. It's not like there's a drought of Super Sonic theme songs or anything.

    What upset me was that they didn't pick any Genesis songs, more so for the Death Egg level. Seriously it's Death Egg Zone. Where's the Death Egg Music from Sonic 2 (that might not have been as easy to get due to DCT crap) or Sonic and Knuckles?

    Between the two it would've been from S&K. Which means it would've been some shitty 'updated' remix courtesy of Senoue making far too much use of General MIDI-quality sinewaves and synth sounds. That is, if the Brawl Angel Island mix (and "others") was anything to go by.

    It wouldn't have to be updated. Give me my original genesis music please, I'll take it.

    Or they could have also used the Doomsday Zone music too.

    The real deal (referring to the S3&K DEZ song) would have been awesome though. But then again, I think the fact that all three default Sonic "areas" are from Sonic Heroes is more of a problem; it still boggles my mind that all of them had to be from just one single game.
