This forum somehow managed to find out about this. A follow-up to Sonic Runners called Sonic Runners Adventure, with Gameloft somehow being involved. Coming to Android and presumably iOS as well. EDIT: In case there was any doubt about this being real: it's been spotted on Gameloft's support site. Lots of details on there, but most importantly: the game isn't online only. EDIT 2: Gameloft took the page down, Sonic News Channel archived it though.
Slightly suspicious: They claim it "might" be for Java ME. Java ME, for all intents and purposes, is dead. Granted, the artwork looks professionally done, so I'll have to wait and see. :v:
Pretty sure they got the artwork from elsewhere. Going by the replies, the bigger banner art wasn't added by the thread creator, but by a forum admin. Google image search turns up nothing for the images though, so I couldn't tell you where they managed to get those from. EDIT: Confirmed real. Seems like they got at least one of the images from Gameloft's support site. Also it confirms it's not online only, you only need to be online when first playing the game (presumably to download additional data): EDIT 2: More details from the support questions: There are moments where the camera angle changes to showcase stunts Characters are now unlocked through the story and with rings, no longer through gacha roulette bullshit There are special stages where you fly and collect rings Two different types of levels: Finite, Looped, and Infinite. There are goals like "Finish the level with no damage" and "Collect all Rings" Achievements are a thing in this game There's a lot more stuff on the support site, but these seem to be the biggest changes to the original game that are mentioned.
Hooray! It looks like they are making an effort to fix the problems of the original. I'm so happy, as the original was a good game, it was just all the poorly implemented free-2-play stuff that ruined it.
It's possible that they're co-developing it rather than being the main developer. Either way, I'd say they've shown that they have a way better grasp on how to handle mobile games than Sonic Team had.
Considering the last question on the support page mentions camera angles, looks like it is gonna be a 3D thing. Wonder how it'll go.
If they fix frame rate issues abd confirm no ads that's day one purchase for me. Loved runners but the performance issues and evergrowing game folder size killed it for me. I wonder if the game is going to have all the characters and costumes. Hope it does.
I'm kinda happy to see this. I enjoyed the idea of Sonic Runners, it was just handled horribly. A take 2 that fixes the issues the first game had is just what was needed.
How did they get the classic "3 spikes to the side" look approved? Maybe Sega's playing for that subtle nostalgia? Whatever the case, I kinda like it. <_<;
Never played Runners and I don't really care whatever the hell this one is about, but I couldn't help noticing that Sonic's proportions in the artwork are closer to classic Sonic's than ever! Even the way his head and spikes are laid out looks a lot like classic Sonic! Is this really the case or is it just me? EDIT: Ninja'd! Guess it isn't just me.
Maybe they finally realized Modern Sonics quills look more like floppy fat things instead of, well, quills.
