After some hemming and hawing, we've finally publicly unveiled our new front page! The front page, which is located at http://www.sonicretro.org, is meant to compliment our wiki and forums, offering news, finds, thoughts and snarky bullshit. The staff have been working on this final form for the past month or so, though it's been in the works for much longer. Although right now you cannot use your Retro account to comment or write stories, you should be able to within the next few weeks—we have the capacity do so, but the server crashed the last time it was attempted. The bugs are being worked out though. With the launch of the front page, we're also looking for Site Staff, who would be the front page equivelant of a Sysop. If you're interested in writing up the news, giving reviews, posting WELL-WRITTEN editorials or just want to shoot the shit about cool stuff and can commit to writing at least 4-5 pieces a month, send me a PM with what you would like to write and an example of your past writing. Approved writers will get this sexy blue badge: We hope you'll enjoy the stories we'll be bringing from here on out and will be happy to have another way to reach out to the Sonic community at large.
Eh, let me know if there's maintence needed to be done. I can surely help with that. However, I personally think I suck at writting, so I'm out for that.
I would gladly volunteer my services to the detail, as I half-write editorials as it is in my posts. And I generally buy Sonic games and give a thorough review of them—maybe not soon after they're released, but, it works for news, I guess.
Bit of a bump—is anyone interested in writing for the main page? Our main writers have been mostly occupied with other things, so it'd be nice to have someone willing to write stories every now and then. Come on, guys. You're breaking our balls here.
Sorry about my drought there. I had a snafu with the slides I was gonna use for the news post I was going to do last week. But there's plenty of news to be found right here, so I'll be reminding myself to post more often. Although it'd be nice if there was somebody else to post... then we could trade off to bring more diversity.
I was wondering about this the other day about the lack of content, because I wouldn't mind writing little snippits once in a while. Mainly what I'd be interested in writing is info about what's going on here on the site. I liked the idea of featured hacks, and we haven't had that in a while.
I suppose I could help, I certainly don't have anything else better to do. I have a proven record at Downloadsquad.com, where I was a professsional blogger writing about tech stuff. My article on the drx proto launch made it to the top ten in all catagories on Digg.
Although I'm not as active here as I used to be, I would be more than happy to help out with the launch of the new front page. I've always wanted to help out the Sonic Community, but never really took action into it due to college and work being in the way. If you would like for me to help with a few things, whether it be typing up stuff [I've always thought it would be cool to scan or post up more information about the games, such as their manuals, boxes, cartridge art, etc. etc. etc.] or providing graphical elements, just let me know by emailing or sending a PM to me. Troy
Oh by the way, my former editor at AOL said he's willing to write a letter of reccomendation; I was layed off due to AOL lying about their ad revenue, not as a result of my writing skill or performance.
You need to write articles for the front page. http://www.sonicretro.org/ Pretty much just show an example of work, and if they need someone, they might pick you.
