Give us Black Doom, so he can go whoosh on Radical Highway. I would love to see some of the older cast making a comeback, like Chaos 0 and Tikal. Heck, if this is some time & space shenanigans, throw in Gamma. Mephilles, anyone? He wants to exist you know.
They really do need to get wacky with it if they want people to buy this. Sonic deep cuts aside, we need SEGA reps again too!
Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Mortal Kombat characters acknowledge the DLC additions. As in, they added new lines of dialogue for the core cast of characters. I'm not sure being more like Mario Kart is the best way forward. Having unique repsonses for other racers on the track makes for more a more interesting soundscape than the same three or four grunts and whoops - Mario hasn't really evolved in that regard much since 1996. It would be nice if what the characters said was less annoying, but we could spend years discussing "annoying things in Sonic games". As for the roster, I don't think Cream the Rabbit would make the game measurably better. The choices made would be all about balance - team dynamics, gotta have the heavy characters, can't all be good etc., hence Zavok. Jury's out on why we need four Chao in a car though.
I have 9 orders I could be working on however I thought it'd be funnier to spend 30 minutes drawing this
Scatter, you also-rans! I like Zavok but I hate playing as him because the whole power class just plays awful, I hope if there's anything they drop it's that system... bring him back, though, and actually just put all of the deadly Six in just to piss people off. They could be really funny. They should also bring Sticks back through this. They really should've through TSR, since she would make more sense as a "team rose" second than Chao (although I still liked the Chao)
Oh yeah this would be a good opportunity to bring Sticks back, huh. Have her in some Flinstones type car where she's powering it by running so all the people moaning about it not being R will shut up
That's what the person to whom you replied was saying. They made a boneheaded design decision against the industry standard, thus creating an artificially limited roster.
I don't know if I'd call it "boneheaded"... the Team Racing element was them experimenting and attempting to make something innovative in a genre full of copycats... and if your game is about Teams, then using additional voice work to highlight specific interactions between characters seems like a clever detail. I get wanting more characters, but when your options are: A: Higher volume of characters implemented with less detail B: More focused roster with more fleshed out character interactions IDK, B sounds more interesting to me. Don't get me wrong, I'd like more characters in CrossWorlds, and I'd be fine if they reverted to Mario Kart Style voice work... I'm just saying the tradeoff isn't that black and white in my eyes.
But that’s the issue though, that you assume they limited the roster because voice acting when there is nothing to suggest this is the case at all, it’s not like they had this huge roster in mind, realized they had to do a lot of voice acting because team mechanics or whatever , and instead of the easy decision to just cut back voice acting and reduce the scripts-very easy to do-, they were like “you know what, let’s just scrap all those characters we are making, let’s make even more voice acting for them, and let’s make a whole story mode with even more voice acting even though it’s all static images and we can get away with just text” , the whole reasoning just doesn’t make sense to me at all.
I personally found the season mode dreadful, that's my use of boneheaded. I very much enjoyed the match banter.
Base Mario Kart 8 had a roster of 30 characters - TSR was half of that. I would happily trade character interactions to get to that number, but we can only guess that was why the roster was limited. Anyway, assuming a Sonic-only roster, I’d love to see: Spoiler: This is the part where everyone starts posting wholeass rosters they want Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Cream, Big, Shadow, Rouge, Omega, Vector, Espio, Charmy, Silver, Blaze, Sticks, Tangle, Whisper, Surge, Kit, Gemerl, Jet, Storm, Wave, Tikal, Zavok, Zazz, Infinite, Sage, Metal Sonic and Eggman Outside of classic characters (who I feel like probably wouldn’t be included), I think this would satisfy almost everyone, other than Zik’s four fans.
Assuming this game has a canon story, you probably won't see Infinite, since he's allegedly dead. Otherwise those picks look pretty good, also assuming we're not doing any continuty-crossover. If that pipe dream did happen, who would you guys pick to rep each universe?
I would, Chaos may as well be “nobody” doesn’t even talk smh I would take Surge specifically , would be great for the games and will bring good energy
Scratch & Grounder (together as 1 character), Sally, Sonia, Old Man Owl, Cosmo, Dave, and Agent Stone. I don't have an opinion on Sonic Prime, I don't think any discontinued comics would get a shot, and IDW characters are technically already cannon, so they're not alternate universe characters. Sticks is also already cannon due to her shout out in Frontiers. Tangle, Whisper, and Sticks should just be there, IMHO.
I'm trying to figure out an angle from which to approach this statement that makes it make sense and I just can't find one. Out of the entire roster I posted, those four aren't the nobodies. Zavok, Zazz, Gemeral and Tikal are nobodies in the current landscape. Hell, if not for the arc in IDW that just wrapped up, there'd be an argument to be made that the IDW OCs are more present than the Babylon Rogues. Outside of guttertrash skinner box experiences like Speed Battle, Chaos' last appearance was seven years ago in Forces. The four characters I've chosen are current, popular and actively being developed and fleshed out in new stories, which is more than you can say for a LOT of Sonic's supporting cast. It's not like I threw Rough and Tumble or Clutch in there. Hell, I reckon even Starline and Mimic could be viable, albeit much less likely.
